Akash Ambani
engagement :
A look at
who wore
what
The engagement of the year -
Akash Ambani with Shloka Mehta
was a star-studded affair and no
Katrina Kaif
looked fresh as a
daisy in a Luisa Beccaria
dress. Styled
by celebrity stylist
Tanvi Ghavri, the
actress completed
her look with classic
nude heels. The
actress left her hair
open for the night
and went for minimalistic
make-up.
prizes for guessing that Bollywood's
biggest stars came to congratulate
the lovely couple. From Shah Rukh
Khan to Katrina Kaif, all the B-Town
biggies marked their attendance at
the big bash hosted by Ambanis at
their much-talked about residence,
Antilia. And while all of the stars
were dressed to the nines, they were
few who caught our eye. Here's a
look at who wore what at Akash and
Shloka's engagement party.
Akash and Shloka
The new couple looked lovely
together. While Akash looked suave
in three-piece blue suit, Shloka
looked pretty in a brown and pink
coloured gown finished with a
bow. She completed her look with a
minimalistic diamond necklace.
24 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looked
stunning in a black strapless gown
by London based designer Osman.
The actress who sported a deep red
lip colour, completed her look with
a satin clutch from Salvatore Ferragamo.
While she looked smashing,
we couldn't stop looking at
how cute Aaradhya looked in that
one shoulder pink dress.
Mrs Shah Rukh Khan kept it
simple in a classic black jumpsuit
with some sexy sharp cuts.
Much like his wife, SRK also opted for his signature black tuxedo look.
And, we don't need to say he looked good. When it comes to carrying of a
particular colour, black is Shah Rukh and Shah Rukh is black.
Kiran Rao looked her quirky
best as usual as she ventured out
in a NorBlack NorWhite metallic
skirt which she paired with a
plain white kurta and a mustard
yellow blazer.
was witnessed on November 24th,
Glimpse in an Indian
Wedding…
Offically Engaged
Engagement ceremony is commonly
known as Tika ceremony.
The engagement ceremony is an important
pre-wedding ritual in Indian
culture. The ceremony is so called
because the bride’s brother applies
‘Tilak’ to the groom’s forehead, making
the engagement official. It is sort
of an exchange of pledges between
the two wonderful families. The Engagement
of one such lovely couple,
Rajat and Aditi was grand affair that
took place on October 2 at 11:30 am
at the Ritz Ambience Island, NH-8 in
Gururgram, Haryana. Engagement
was followed by a majestic Sangeet
ceremony held at 2:30 pm where Rajat
and Aditi exchanged rings. The
period between the engagement and
the marriage brings a bowl of mixed
emotions, excitement, anticipations,
Guests from abroad made
Newlywed couple’s
Warm Welcome by
Rajat’s mother
The most prominent, post-wedding
ritual after the Vidai ceremony
is the new bride’s welcome into
her new residence which is dotted
with various customary games and
rituals that act as an ice-breaker for
the nervous bride making her gel up
with the close family members and of
course to let go off some stress. These
ceremonies took place at the groom's
home where the bride's mum-in-law
gave the new couple a hearty warm
welcome. The newly married couple
was welcomed by Rajat’s mother and
sister. The bride's arrival is considered
to be the arrival of Lord Lakshmi
according to Hindu holy belief,
into the family who brings forth a lot
of love, joy and wealth. Following the
customs and rituals, Aditi then lighted
the oil lamp in the puja room and
offered her prayers for everyone’s
well being.
Roka Ceremony of
Kanika And Abhinav
The Beautiful
Bride and Groom-to-be
Wedding Moments / May, 2018
31

Two lives Interwined... Roka
Ceremony of Kanika and Abhinav
Beautiful Blending
Between both families
One of the most important
pre-wedding ceremonies which
brought two individual, two souls
and two families together is Roka
ceremony. The meaning of Roka ceremony
is as important as the ceremony
itself. An official announcement
of the consent of both Kanika and
Abhinav was announced for getting
married to each other. Both the families
gather together for the first time
and exchange sweets, gifts, dry fruits,
etc. with each other and also blessed
the couple who will soon be getting
married. The family members performed
Puja according to the Indian
rituals and traditions in the presence
of a holy priest who recites the holy
verses and performs the rituals.
2018 – Just Got Lucky !!
Generally, the Roka ceremony is
conducted at bride’s home .So, after
the big scrutiny, they went on the
conclusion to keep the occasion on
12th March, 2018 at Kamal Mahal,
The perfect evening began with the
first ritual known as Tilak Ceremo-
The couple would never have
thought that they would reunite
in one of the world’s
most luxurious 5 stars and
the most powerful and prestigious,
chain of hotels, ITC Maurya, New
Delhi. The Roka ceremony was organized
at a magnificent hall with posh
interiors which was divided into three
spaces with soundproof separator popularly
known as Kamal Mahal.
Finally, the dream was coming
come true when the Gorgeous Kanika
entered the hall wearing beautiful
Golden- colored gown embellished
with glittering silver leaflets. She
paired her dress with light make-up
which gave a ravishing look along
with silver jewels. And when the darling
Princess Kanika met her handsome
Prince Abhinav who was wearing
a subtle dashing grey-colored
suit, the book of their life just began
writing its new page.
32 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

ny. Tilak, the sign of auspiciousness
which was performed by the male
members of the bride’s family. They
apply the paste of Kumkum, the red
vermillion on the foreheads of both
Kanika and Abhinav. After the tilak
ceremony, the elders present at the
occasion, blessed the lovely couple.
This was followed by the exchange of
gifts between both the families.
The thali used in the Tilak ceremony
has different components depending
on the region or culture of
the respective families. Here, the silver
thali was decorated with saffron,
kumkum and a diya. The ceremony
symbolized the bride’s father’s acceptance
of the groom’s hand for
his daughter. This puja ceremony is
conducted for the well being of the
would-be couple as well as for initiating
cordial and continued relations
between both families. At the end
to confirm the closing of the ceremony
successfully, a coconut along
with betel leaves and areca nut was
exchanged between the two families.
FamJam and
My Friends Squad
Every occasion is incomplete
without close relatives and friends.
Bride’s and Groom’s male friends
and family wore a comfortable yet
stylish kurta pajama individually of
crème, gold, black, maroon, light
yellow and light pink which was
looking classic yet, they kept it traditional.
On the other hand, sisters
and friends of bride dressed according
to the bridesmaid gown-theme.
The whole evening was coming out
together with those pretty faces and
energetic souls. The wedding was undoubtedly
an occasion to create the
best of best memories, and Kanika’s
and Abhinav’s was one such grand
event.
A Memorable Matrimony
The perfect location, perfect apparel
with the perfect evening came
to a closing stage when the mother of
the groom adorned the bride by placing
a beautiful red chunni or dupatta
over her head and blessed her with
clothes, jewellery, cash, etc.
On the other hand, the parents of
the bride gifted clothes and cash to
the groom and showered him with
their blessings.
The families threw a party for
their close ones to celebrate the fixing
of marriage. It represented the starting
point of the relationship between
the boy and the girl, which they will
cherish for their lifetime.
MakeUP ART
You walk into the
workplace of Kanikka
Gaurav Tandon assuming
to enter a salon on the
upmarket club road in
Punjabi Bagh West only
to realize that this is
something different and has
no feel of a salon! A vintage
European ambiance graced
with very well detailed
interiors I was looking
forward to meeting the
Creative Director of this
Studio. Entering her room
I see a chirpy ever smiling
33-year-old entrepreneur
who looks like a girl just
completed her high school
sitting in front of me with
a twinkle in her eyes.
We
make
you
Special
Kanikka
Gauraav
Tandon
My first question was,
as usual, how did you
get into this field and
the answer was quite
surprising for me as she said- "You
will be amazed to know the complete
process, after completing my schooling
I did graduation from South
Campus along with that I did DNIIT
, then NTT for 2 years , MSC(IT) for
2 years and thereon B(Ed) for 1 year
and became a computer teacher in a
school and then got married ! It was
nothing related to beauty and makeup
till then.
After marriage as I was introduced
to makeup, colors, eyelashes
and other accessories in a natural
transformation that any girl would
have gone through. I was a happy
giving makeover to friends and family
without knowing and realizing
that I was gaining confidence and
was good at it. I left my job at school
after 3 months of marriage to join
my husband’s business of specialty
chemicals. My in-laws were noticing
this transformation in me and would
often compare my work with the
brides who got their makeover from
professionals whereas I was enjoying
this hobby, and I never charged anyone
for it says Kanikka Gaurav Tandon.
My Kid was 2 and my hobby
was gradually turning into precision.
I don't know how and why but my
family came up with an idea to take
this stream professionally. I was reluctant
as my kid was too young and
not evens an iota of my imagination I
thought I would take this up.
I researched all the courses
around and found that Pearl Academy
had the best offering for my
interest. But here I was late, the last
date of application submission was
gone and I had postponed the idea to
next year. My husband Gaurav Tandon
said it never says never and went
straight to the Dean of the Institute
Col Bose discussing the case.
Col Bose said if you are so eager
you may get into the college through
Sponsored Seat and if you are good
at your work to show me 90% attendance
and stand in top 3 in the first
semester and I will waive off your
Sponsored seat fee completely. I
stood first in the semester with 98%
attendance and the fee was waived
off, says Kanikka with a big smile on
her face. Eventually, at the end of the
batch, I was a topper and was awarded
a certificate and trophy for Academic
Excellence for the course.
Since there are many options for
makeup artists to work in fashion,
freelance, movies, television how and
when did you decide to come up with
a prodigious setup like this?
Kanikka : We wanted to open a
commercial set up like we have done
now but on a very small scale in
around 500 sq feet but as we kept on
hunting for places our imagination
and thoughts of makeup area turned
into a luxurious makeup studio in
2700sq feet. I have worked for fashion,
as for experience as well but with
very selective people, since I was never
a bread earner in the family; the
only instruction I had to follow was
to work on your own terms and only
for your creativity. Since the idea was
clear in the family that we will launch
a setup like this, freelance took a back
seat and I never got much into it.
Tell us more about your setup:
Says Kanikka : This is not a commercial
setup by any stance; we could
have utilized this space to make it a
salon and provision of as many clients
as we can book on a heavy wedding
day. We freeze our day with 6
brides in a given slot and no more
bookings thereon.
My senior artist has the same
number to freeze the day. This is our
gratitude in reciprocation of their decision
to choose us on their very special
occasion. We have ultra luxurious
electronic card accessible rooms
for brides to change, settle and get
ready for the most important day of
her life. I cannot imagine my bride to
wait in a queue to get ready as this
is her own day and she needs to be
pampered. Moreover, it is about my
creativity.
I can give my best to 6 clients
and I do not go over that. This day
is more important for them than it
is for us and we respect this. And we
are very happy working with a limited
number of clients and giving
our best. When, instead of brides, I
get calls and messages from grooms
thanking me personally more often
than not is my biggest achievement,
Kanikka laughs out. They are not
bound to do it you see.
You teach as well
Kanikka : Yes I teach makeup
professionally as well as personal
in the morning. Our professional
course is for 4 weeks. This is the
best part of my day as I was a teacher
initially but in a different stream. It
comes naturally to me. I will tell you
an instance a month back when we
completed a batch and a student of
mine called and said she got a job for
50000.00 per month when she mentioned
to the organization that she
did a course from Kanikka Tandon
Studio!! In 4 weeks of training if I
can give women a platform to earn
between 25000-50000 per month
it’s the best thing I can do. Since the
world is talking about women empowerment,
this is our bit to the society
and I make sure they have the
skills and competence to survive in
the industry.
Where do you see your brand
placed currently in the competition?
Kanikka : Where is the competition?
I don’t see any competition
anywhere. I am a makeup artist and I
will have people who prefer my kind
of work and there are people who
will prefer someone else’s work.
I respect each and every individual
in my field as they have not
reached where they are without hard
work and determination and creativity
and I am sure like me everyone
else gives his/her best.
What are your dreams from here
on when you see your work and setup
being appreciated the way it has:
Kanikka : Well our work is different
and our dream is one step
beyond that. My Work is to showcase
my creativity with my brush
and husband being the commercial
director of the studio has the resolution
to help an acid attack victim
every year. We will look forward that
we can do more than this for these
girls. We have no commercial goals
beyond this. We believe money is
just a byproduct and has limited importance.
We do discuss our social goals
with people we know not because we
want them to fund our goals, but to
pass a message to do whatever they
can do personally for any social cause
close to their heart.
After all, who doesn’t like to look
beautiful?
for the brides.
Take care of your eyes
Shahnaz Husain emphasizes more
on taking care of the skin around the
eyes because it is said that the eyes
are windows to the soul. Fine lines or
wrinkles around the eye may make
you look old and weird, right? Especially
for the brides, you should start
pampering the skin around the eyes
with the help of almond oil. Take
some almond oil and soak a cotton
ball in it. Wipe the under eye area
and massage in one direction.
Leave it for overnight and wash
off with cold water in the morning.
Rose water for
glowing skin
Shahnaz Husain suggests that
you should start following rose water
therapy, six months before the
wedding, in order to get a natural
pinkish glow on your skin. In order
to keep your skin nourished
and moist, you should take
some chilled rose water and
apply on your face with a
cotton ball. Allow it to
dry on its own. Using
rose water is ideally
good to be used on
all types of skin.
You can make
your own
rose water
at home or
use Dabur
Take care of lips with almond
play a major role in
causing dry or chapped
lips. Obviously, it is not
good to observe dry
most important day of
your life. So, in order to
get glowing and healthy
lips, you should nourish
or coconut oil regularly.
Coconut oil or almond
oil contains a lot of fatty
acids which can keep your
skin moisturized and hydrated.
Special hair care secrets
Apart from the skin, hair care is
the most obvious part of your daily
beauty routine. You should deeply
condition your hair regularly and
also shampoo it well. You should not
make drastic changes to your hair
like coloring hair, getting haircuts
or bleaching hair. You should protect
your hair from hot temperature
and also put a stop to using styling
machines for a few months. Styling
machines can destroy your hair to
a greater extent. BBLUNT Intense
beneficial for our skin and
it is important to follow it every day.
effectively and also remove the dirt
and dust from the face. It helps to
remove dead skin cells, thus, keeping
It is very important to choose
your cosmetics wisely, as it can affect
your skin to a great extent. You
should always choose cosmetic products
according to your skin type and
also check the ingredients used in
them. Opt for the cosmetics with
mild fragrances, so that they allow
your skin to breathe freely and prevent
irritation.
Follow aloe vera therapy
Shahnaz Husain says that there
cannot be any other ingredient better
than aloe vera for the skin.
Aloe vera contains enzymes which
can help to keep your skin soft, supple
and glowing. Massage your face
with fresh aloe vera gel regularly, in
order to enjoy clear skin. Also, using
aloe vera prevents acne, dark spots
and blemishes on the skin easily. You
can also get pure aloe vera from the
market. Green Leaf Pure Aloe Vera
Go for a body massage
Husain speaks about the importance
of relaxing body before your
wedding day.
It is important to use essential
oils which help to keep your body relaxed
and stress-free. You should go
for a body massage once in a month
to relax and calm your senses. Body
massage not only relaxes your body
but it also boosts blood circulation,
which helps to give you a glowing
skin and healthy hair.
You can book your appointment
with nearby clinic or spa to get the
pampering.
How can we protect
our skin in summer?
Summer is here. Before you think
of pleasant mornings, new wardrobe
& other things to shop for summers,
think of the horror in store for your
skin. Summer heat can create different
problems in the skin like dark
spots, pigmentation, wrinkles and
tanning. But don’t worry we have
some expert advice on beating the
heat this summer and staying beautiful.
Moisturizing is essential. You
may think that winters are over and
skip that part of the regime, but no,
not happening. Summer heat dehydrates
your body, so you can choose
gel based or water based moisturizer
to keep your skin moisturized and
supple. Also, exfoliate your skin to
remove the accumulated dead skin
cells that are clogging your pores and
forming a layer on your skin.
Natural Makeup look and
Trendy Hairstyle in summers
Summers are the time to shift to
lighter shades of makeup – be it lipsticks,
eyeshadows, nail paint etc.
It is all about going natural during
the summer season. Don’t forget to
use a primer in summers as it will
hold your foundation well and keep
it together. Choose waterproof eye
makeup in summers. Use a lip balm
with SPF to protect your lips from
the sun. The idea to keep your hair
stylish, Keep it simple. If you don’t
like your hair to keep it open in the
daytime, then you can look trendy in
braids and high ponytails. To prevent
your hair from dehydration caused
by summer, use mild shampoos, conditioner
and go for regular hair spas.
Fashion
Pre-existing turned to Modish
Wardrobe by Bina Sui Dhaga-
Unsewn Garments fashion show
Let’s go out of trend this year,
entirely stylish and glamorous with
the innovation of Student Designers
of South Delhi Polytechnic College
for Women. They have explored
and experimented on a new trend of
“unstitched clothes” for providing an
interesting texture and design which
was showcased in the annual event
at Ashima Chaudhuri Auditorium,
South Delhi Polytechnic for women
on 23rd March at 12:30 pm in the
form of a fashion show.
The name of the fashion show
“BINA SUI DHAGA- UNSEWN
GARMENTS” came from the concept
of experimenting with the
pre-existing clothing patterns which
they have turned into a modish
wardrobe with their hard work. The
challenge had taken by groups of students
who came up with the concept
of unstitched and unsewn garments
which are innovative, glamorous,
stylish, and becoming a part of the
trend in western culture.
Prominent people like Sharon
Lowen, Sonia Jetleey, Vandy Mehra,
Rashmi Sachdeva, Ramola Bachchan,
Anu Sikka, Mithu Sen, Samit
Das, Alka Raghuvanshi, Nupur
Kundu, Sudip Roy, Uma Nayar and
Aruna Bhowmick were the guests
present there and in front of whom
the students showcased their talent.
The unstitched clothes designed with
techniques like matting, braiding,
twilling which were providing interesting
texture and design to the
clothes.
Braiding in cut pieces is a method
of interlacing stripes in such a way
that they cross one another and are
laid together in diagonal formation.
Such methods provide exciting designs
and give birth to a new trend
followed by using clothespin that was
used to hang up clothes to provide
them with various dimensions. The
concept was indeed a challenge for
Student Designers, who have overcome
the limitations and produced
exciting designs, worthy of applause.
Tradition is the
Illusion of permanance
“Weddings with undiscovered clothing,
unbeatable fashion, unmatched design,
everything NEW this wedding season”
With marriages overhead, the
million dollar industries of Fashion,
Beauty, and jewelry, over the recent
years have contributed in the most
wonderful manner by experimenting
with fusion styles and offering the
best wedding attire. Fashion, beauty
and jewellery are all over on social
media. Todays, brides and grooms
aren't shy but want to slay.
Experimenting with new shapes
this wedding season, both bride and
groom should step out of their comfort
zones and try and experiment
with different styles, shapes, color
schemes and designs. The traditional
saga is undoubtedly beautiful and
unique but trying new versions is
what this wedding season is all about.
Red, orange, is that all?
Over the years, as the brides have
evolved so has the bridal attire from
head to toe. Not too gaudy, not the
one that mom wore on her wedding,
not chandini chowk vala typical
lehnga, brides all over the world are
going for nudes and pastels this season.
Subtle, sophisticated and modest
is what is trending. Shades from
pastels to pale, pink to ivy blue are
all.
Minimal Approach.
Today's bride is all confident and
happy go lucky and doesn't want to
carry any unnecessary burden on her
day, thus less is an approach which is
in high demand. Having a concrete
idea in head, brides want a modern
look with a traditional touch, with
heritage jewellery of kundan, jadau,
and gold thus making the look sassy
and classy, yet traditional.
Swapping the
Traditional.
The wedding designers are swearing
by the twist that brides are looking
forward to these days. There is
a big transformation from traditional
choli and lehnga to corset, ballets
crapes and jacket flares and fixing the
Grasp the Gaze
with your Grace
Since every bride wants to look
like a princess on her wedding day,
Indian wedding dresses are adorned
with elaborate, intricate and rich
embellishments. Traditional Indian
wedding dresses are made from
fabrics in bright and festive hues of
red, green or yellow. Red and yellow
are considered to be auspicious in the
Indian tradition while green stands
for fertility.
Indian weddings are observed
with various customs and rituals
and 3 or 4 days are taken to perform
these. There is the activation, sangeet,
haldi, wedding and reception. So the
bride spends a lot of time to decide
her wedding dress and it is essential
too as its her most special day of life.
Even if 'lehengas' tend to be truly
the greatest wedding dress meant
for Indian wedding brides she can
choose what to wear it again on her
bridal as well.
Exquisite zardosi work,
scintillating sequins and Swarovski
crystals and rich gold zari borders
are some of the elements that grace
every traditional Indian wedding
dress. Paired with the right kind of
jewellery, hairstyle and makeup with
the beautiful outfit can make you
look like a dazzling princess.
Shades of wedding colors
Colors hold a great significance
in Indian culture; each hue and
shade signifies some aspect of your
life. The color red is commonly
associated with love and passion. In
Indian context, red is also connected
to the rising sun. Besides, according
to astrology, the planet in charge
of marriages, Mars, is red in color.
Therefore, Hindu brides are asked
to wear red during the wedding
proceedings since it stands for
prosperity and fertility.
Generally, in western countries
to-be brides opt for colors such
as white or blue. White signifies
virginity, and was thus chosen as the
bride's colour ages ago. But off late
it is acceptable to choose your own
custom made outfit. The color black
is avoided as it is considered to be the
color of mourning.
In our country and in the eastern
countries like China and Vietnam
they choose the color red as it signifies
good luck and auspiciousness.
Nowadays, though, it is common to
see the light cream colored saris with
red or gold heavily embroidered
borders. People who can afford to
splurge can appoint a designer to
make them a custom-made bridal
outfit. However, one can pick the
design from online and can make it
stitch according to their preference
from any local boutique to give it a
unique style.
Unique outfits for
the Beautiful Bride
Traditional Red and Gold
Never goes out of trend
When it’s about Indian wedding
dresses, the traditional red and gold
lehenga is an evergreen choice. The
colour red is associated with bridal
wear and the gold highlights the attire
beautifully. The long vertical or
horizontal panels on the skirt and a
heavily embroidered or embellished
dupatta makes the attire look stunningly
beautiful. Wearing it with
multiple kinds of jewellery and accessories
gives you a Maharani look.
Break the Monotony and wear the graceful gown
It is utmost necessary that the bride looks perfect and not too gaudy or
underdressed. So picking the right bridal wear is as important as picking the
right life partner. Trying something beyond traditions and western outfits,
wear a beautiful gown and break the monotony of wearing lehengas on your
wedding day Gowns are stylish but can look truly ethnic when highlighted
with opulent embroidery or thread work. You can accentuate your figure and
be comfortably trendy in an ethnic gown.

Add some charm to
color pink
The charming colour pink fits
with any combination can add charm
to your outfit. Break away from the
shades of red and highlight your feminine
side in bright and bold shades
of pink. The colour pink highlights
both gold and silver work beautifully
and adds grace to the overall look of
the bride. It’s the perfect colour for
the wedding day as well as any other
celebrations around the wedding.

Superior Royal Blue
Royal blue represents superiority
has become the next most popular
choice of colour for Indian wedding
dresses. Be it Wedding Lehenga or
princess gown, this colour makes any
outfit beautiful.Gold thread work
and embellishments stand out on
royal blue; be it silk, velvet or georgette.
The colour looks stylish and
graceful at the same time.
Wedding
Bells all around the globe
Select your favourite destination
and create a bundle of joy
Who doesn’t want once
in a lifetime moment
of being a part of a
destination wedding
or more extravagant one of being the
host itself ...We all!! Over the past
decade, there is an unsusceptible boon
in the area of wedding outdoors, often
known as “Destination Weddings”.
The gleam about this whole fancy
fuss is on such a high that nowadays
every girl and guy is aspiring to work
hard enough to stand out of the pack.
The trending trail is the most talked
about these days, as every couple
recently has started to entertain the
idea of exchanging vows seaside and
dancing under that clear sky. But
all this hunky-funky stuff doesn’t
come alone, the stress it gets with is
naturally complementary.
With the ongoing high-end
demand for the D-Weddings, it’s
important for us to understand
the theory behind this complete
360 degree gradual change from
traditional rasams -rivaz to beachside
bar-be-ques. The present generation
knows exactly what it wants and the
feasible amount for them that should
be spent on the wedding Episode.
With the long working hours to
delicate schedules to sensibilities,
the couple needs time to celebrate
this most auspicious day, and thus
wholeheartedly loves to pamper
each other and themselves giving
wings to the idea of a dashed up “The
Destination Wedding”.
The crux of the wedding lies in the
numerous ways in which it brings the
sense of happiness, glare and joyous
memories of lifetime in not just the
lives of the host but also their family
and friends.
Having said it all, it’s finally the
time to discuss some prospects of this
gorgeous and unique Wedding gaga!
Exchanging vows anywhere
in the world- Mini trip!!
A destination wedding is defined
as marrying at least 100 miles from
where the bride is currently living
according to Google baba, but we feel
that its equivalent in case of grooms as
well as obviously nothing is possible
without them. This definition opens
up for couples— the world really is
now their playground.
Financially manageable-
It's less stressing NOW!!
With almost every second
city and almost all the islands
inevitably welcoming the culture of
D-Wedding to their natives, its good
to understand that many worthy
resorts, palaces, hotels, beaches etc are
offering damn reasonable packages in
order to minimize the burden on the
host in some ways.
The packages are in abundance
keeping in mind the customisations
done according to different clients.
Playing it economically
safe - SAVE is The KEY!!
Okay, lets talk about this in a bit
detail. We understand that wedding
is a grand event but this one day
event should not be overpriced by
any means. D-Wedding gives a
brand new dimension to this as
you can wisely choose an amazing
background according to your theme
from princess to Maharani it doesn’t
take much to dress it up. Opting for
a breezy tidy beach or an ancestral
haweli with royal decor laced with
tropical flowers, thus budgeting done
right on Decor.
Flexibility and Fun - who likes
boring weddings anyway!!
This kind of wedding brings the
close more close. Yes, by this we
mean that in such weddings, the host
is flexible in terms of inviting the very
near and dear ones, as offcourse they
are taking care of their travel expense
in most cases, so less is more funda
which is applicable.
Also, the best part is when the
guests are around, the festivity and
charisma of the entire wedding is on
another level which might not mind
a Monday wedding shifting a day
before or after, after all everyone is
already present there and why should
the paradise procrastinate ;)
Stand out of the pack – D-Day,
With a D-Wedding ;)
Though everyone loves the idea
of Destination weddings, not all are
willing to risk it all. Thus you can
generally stand out of the crowd
and be somebody’s reason to plan
a D-Wedding. The flexibility of
choosing a different kind of locations
from Beach to a Royal Palace to a
Cruise is exciting and mindboggling.
close knit affair, one with damn
MASS MARRIAGE BRINGS SOCIAL
UNITY AND AWARENESS IN SOCIETY
Samuhik Vivah means a crowd of couple gets married at the same time and at the
same place because they cannot afford the expenses
A healthy society can only be
created when there are mutual love
and goodwill in society. It is necessary
to give meaningful direction to
the society; entire development of all
the sections of society is mandatory.
Even in Indian perspective, a large
part of the population is struggling
with the lack of basic needs. Because
of this, many families cannot afford
to marry their girls even though
Kanyadan which is considered to be
the holy ritual in Indian culture.
Somehow, to marry many girls,
the father of the daughter econom-
ically gets break. The debt is taken
for marriage also ruins the rest of the
life. In order to avoid all these situations,
the role of social institutions or
NGO's for the marriage without appreciating
the needs of the daughters
of the needy family becomes appreciable.
Some marital institutions exchange
biodata for eligible bride and
groom. Due to the financial problems
of the poor families, NGO’s organize
mass marriage with the public
interest. Mass marriage (Samuhik
Vivah) is not just a marriage arrangement,
but its effects and benefits
in social interest are far-reaching.
There is no other bigger righteous
work than marrying a girl of a weak
needy or helpless family. Today, in
every small and big district, towns
or cities, many mass marriages are
organizing by the NGO's.They take
their responsibility as their own and
helps the needy people, to begin with,
a new phase of life.
Destination Wedding-
Making it special for you
All weddings are special, but a
destination wedding can be a truly
unique experience if the captured
moments could be relived. One
could combine the wedding with a
family reunion, and it is the perfect
opportunity for a romantic holiday
for your guests. Gracini studio frame
not only pictures but the beautiful
memories. They can capture all the
activities such as beach barbeques,
spa days, diving trips and rounds
of golf. In addition, incorporate
traditions, foods, and music etc
photography from the local area
into the wedding ceremony and
reception.
Pre-wedding shoot
A pre-wedding shoot referred
to as an engagement shoot which
usually takes place three to six
months prior to the wedding day.
The team aims at capturing all the
engagement moments and not to
miss any. Though pre-wedding
shoots have become a necessity for
most, a lot of couples have started
debating on whether or not they
should have one. With their unique
style and incredible experience in
photography, they can make your
wedding day memorable.
Cinematography
The cinematography is the art
Fashion Photography
Over the last few decades, fashion
images have engaged with new
technology and proved politically
and aesthetically provocative,
economically useful, and ideologically
powerful. But besides the massive
amount of printed and online media
on fashion photography circulating
throughout the country, critical
accounts of fashion photography are
a lot harder to find but they ensure
that the models could achieve great
success ahead.
Corporate and events
photography
Event photography is a huge
business, and there seems to be an
ever-expanding number of event
photographers out there, particularly
wedding photographers, for which
the market is enormous and highly
lucrative.
While the event photography
space is extremely competitive,
the barriers to entry are fairly low,
since virtually they have the depth
knowledge of composition, lighting
and exposure and an ability to move
quickly.
Interior photography
Well, quite a lot actually. Some
of it just boils down to a basic
understanding of what an interior
shot requires. Great angles, straight
walls, and even light make a massive
difference to the shot. Only an expert
knows a perfect balance and an art to
capture such activities. Nevertheless,
Gracini studio team has all the
solution to every question you have.
Food and Product
Visit any bookshop and head
for the cookbook section and you’ll
be overwhelmed by the array of
books filled with scrumptious
recipes accompanied by wonderful
photography of the meals being
written about.
Colorful stacks of vegetables
drizzled with rich sauces on a
clean white plate with glistening
table settings – they know the shots.
Sometimes the photography is almost
their true focus of the book with the
recipes taking a secondary role.
Picture perfect..!!
Your wedding is one of the
most important day of
your life. Considering its
relevance, it becomes necessary
for you to capture the beautiful
moments of this special day so
that you can relive the day over and
over again in the years to come. If
the moments are captured perfectly
by the lenses, you will love flipping
through the pages of your wedding
album instead of closing the album
in a hurry.
There are many beautiful moments
that take place on your D day
and they can be captured perfectly
only by an experienced wedding
photographer. He can click them
without being overwhelmed by the
presence of so many guests and their
chit-chat. Therefore, it becomes all
the more important to hire a professional
wedding photographer who
can document it all without missing
all the vital details of the day.
If you are planning to delegate
the job of clicking the beautiful moments
of your wedding to a friend or
relative who has got a good camera,
here are some reasons you should
not assign the responsibility to an
amateur. Capturing the stunning
pictures of the beautiful moments of
your wedding day may not be as easy
as it appears.
There are outdoor shoots,
pre-wedding shoots and several other
options that make the process of
clicking pictures fun and exciting. In
outdoor shoots, you can choose any
place where you want your pictures
to be clicked. Like in Delhi, you can
visit places like Hauz Khas, Qutub
Minar, Agrasen Ki Baoli, Humayun’s
Tomb, and many such places to get
photos with an enchanting historical
background. You can further try several
Bollywood and Hollywood poses
to bring a filmy touch to your wedding
pictures.
By involving your bridesmaid and
groomsmen in your pre-wedding
photography, you can get some candid
and funny pictures. If you wish,
you may also opt for a theme for your
photos. For example, if you are a
group of 6 people then all of you can
become the characters of the series
Friends, where the bride and groom
can be the famous couple Chandler
and Monica. While getting these pic-
tures, you will be able to communicate,
laugh and cry with your friends
and family without hesitation, as the
focus of the photographers will be to
click candid pictures, which portray
the real you. These candid photos do
not require your full attention, hence
you are left to do whatever you want
to do.
An expert wedding photographer
has enough experience to make people
feel comfortable. So, while you
go about hiring a wedding photographer,
clicking pictures perfectly
should not be the only thing that you
should look at. He should also have
the capacity to make his subjects feel
at ease and comfortable while clicking
pictures as it can be easily seen in
the pictures.
Therefore, in order to make the
informed choice, try to meet at least
a few professional wedding photographers
and visit their studios. Your
main job will be selecting a photographer
whose working style closely
matches with your own preferences
and personality. Ask as many questions
as possible and look through
the portfolio of all the selected candidates.
A professional photographer’s
sample work reflects his best work,
so you may ask for his sample work
in order to find the best wedding
photographer in India.
Things To Avoid While
Selecting a Wedding
Photographer
Go Slow but Smart.
Wedding is not something that you
would experience every other day.
Hence, it is important that you select
everything with a keen interest. One
of the most important thing in it is
the selection of photographer. After
all, it is the photographer who helps
you to immortalize this special day of
your life. So, there are certain things
that you should avoid while choosing
your wedding photographer.
The More The Better
This is a myth that you should fall
for. The quantity of the shoots is not
something that should catch your
attention. What is indeed important
is the quality and the experience
that the photographer has. After all,
you don’t want your wedding to be a
practice ground for a novice photographer.
Make sure who will be holding
the camera and clicking those
candid shots. It is important that he
or she treats your work as an important
one, no matter the number of client
he has.
Grab the Sale season
Do not compromise on the look
of your wedding shoot just because
some of the photographers might
be giving you a discount. After all,
a good photographer can make a
budget dress look breathtaking. But
a bad can do the exact opposite and
make a great dress look tacky. So, before
you seal your deal with a novice
photographer, ask yourself if he is really
worth it.
Recommendations
You should realize that some venues
will recommend you certain photographers
because they pay a price
to be recommended to you. Some
vendors sell their spots on their “preferred
vendor” lists. This might not
apply to every venue. Some venues
offer excellent recommendations. It
is therefore very crucial to double
check before going with a choice recommended
by the venues.
110 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

Take time
to select
your wedding
photographer
This is one important thing which you
should avoid. Never wait for too long to
choose your wedding photographer in case
you have found a good one. Good photographers
book their dates in advance and will not be
available always. Nothing is more frustrating than selecting
a wedding photographer and then finding out
that they booked out your date a week prior.
Weddings in India are unique, colorful and outstanding.
They differ from state to state and at times
even from city to city. Dresses, rituals, ceremonies
and time of the weddings are different all across the
country. But one thing that all these weddings provide
is enormous fun, happiness and everlasting
memories. The only thing that lasts longer than these
memories are the photos of your wedding day.
The photographs at these weddings are clicked
by professionals who are well equipped and focused.
They are hard working people, whose main aim is to
capture your big day beautifully. However, getting
your pictures clicked can be a tiring and boring task.
You have to make several poses for hours, which
though seem funny, but are extremely awkward. In
the end, you get perfect pictures, yet you are unable
to enjoy the process.
All you need to know about
Indian Wedding Photography
Traditional
Wedding Photography:
TraditionalWedding Photography
does exist from the time immemorial. It
is the one which you
have witnessed since your childhood.
Guests are photographed with
straight shoulders away from the lens
and head to head. People are posed
and moments are re-created.
This method was adopted widely
and followed as tradition. It is also
about documenting your wedding
but more in a controlled way. The
final product i.e. the photo album is
not much different from the other
weddings. Yes! the design and color
correction is given a fine touch.
Candid Wedding
Photography:
You can find blogs and articles
on almost every candid wedding
photographer’s webpage. Everyone
has explained it in its own way. No
doubt! It is the most advanced way to
capture weddings. Candid photography
offers a wider range of photos.
It depends upon the individual photographer
that how he/she executes
the ideas.
However, there are two major
approaches in candid photography.
The first is photo-journalistic/street
photography approach and second
is Directorial approach. Under photo-journalistic
or street photogra-
phy, the photographer captures the
moments without disturbing its subject.
Many wedding photographers
give direction to their subjects. The
directed shot does not look like posing.
A good candid wedding photographer
merges these two approaches
in his/her style. Though, posing is a
completely different science in itself.
Traditional Videography:
It is basically filming every bit
of moment in your wedding. Traditional
videography went hand in
hand with your traditional still photography.
It is a method of continuous
shooting and editing on later
part. Your two or three days’ events
are filmed rigorously. Having filmed
your wedding, the entire raw footage
is dumped into machines at editing
studios. Further, the complete data
of around 10-15 GB is sent for your
approval. Once, you give your approval
with some changes, the final
film gets ready. It is also a tiresome
work because of its continuous mode
of shooting.
112 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

which you want to watch again and
again. Every time you enjoy watching
it.
Camera Crane:
It is not a style of photography in
itself. The crane is an extension to the
reach. The tripods and the long jibs
are screwed together with the camera.
This set-up helps in covering the
high perspective above your head. It
closes up to the subject in the same
time.
One camera man operates the
camera crane from the dedicated
area. The crane captures the activities
within its diameter. The one videographer
is able to capture all the activities
in its vicinity.
The another machine is known as
dolly which gives it more flexibility.
The camera crane with dolly moves
in closer to the activities within the
filming area. It helps in syncing the
movement between camera and subject.
The dolly gives an actual movement
to the camera. It seems that
couple is travelling with the camera
smoothly.
Wedding
Cinematography:
It is about making a cinema by
casting the bride and groom as a
main lead character. The story revolves
around the couple and the
other important characters. It is
nothing short of creating a Bollywood
movie. The high end gadgets
and equipments are used for giving
cinematic effects. The transitions and
music tracks are bought online for
your wedding cinematography.
In fact, there is a lot to be done
under post-production. Editing is
the core strength of the entire film
to bring stunning results. If the editing
part is not done professionally,
the final outcome will not be up to
the mark. That’s why, it is expensive
comparatively to the traditional videography.
The average time of the
final product is 25-30 minutes. The
average trailer of the same is 1:45 –
2:30 minutes. It is kind of a product
Pre-Wedding
Mehendi
Ceremonies
One of the most important
pre-wedding ceremonies
in Indian marriages
is the Mehendi Ki Raat.
The beautiful bride-to-be adorns her
hands and feet with striking designs
made out of henna. As per the traditions,
even the groom applies a bit of
Mehendi on his hands as well as feet.
An entire ceremony is a fun-filled
event with every family member
and close friends of the
bride and the groom being
a part of it. But, apart
from being a fun
pre-wedding ritual,
the Mehendi
ceremony
also has
a deep-rooted
cultural significance
to it. And, here
we tell you all about the
beautiful significance of
Mehendi in Indian marriages.
The Mehendi ceremony is one
of the most important and fun-filled
pre-wedding ceremonies in Northern
India. The beautiful bride-to-be
adorns her hands and feet with striking
designs made out of henna. Mehendi
represents the bond of matrimony
and is, therefore, considered
a ‘shagun’. It signifies the love
and affection between the
couple and their families.
I couldn’t stop myself
from lining up
these brides who
completely
slayed at
their Mehendi
ceremony
looking all
sorts of pretty while
keeping it absolutely
simple.
If there is something most pleasing
in this world, it is the feeling of
being loved and giving the relationship
a new turn through wedlock.
Every girl feels delighted on her
wedding and takes part in the rituals
on this day with full oomph. Here,
Mehendi is one of the famous Indian
wedding rituals that every bride
rejoices. However, girls use bridal
makeup to get ready and flaunt in
front of the groom, but Mehendi is
something that brings the real feel of
being a bride.
Wedding Moments / May, 2018 127

Deeper the Mehendi, Deeper
the Love Between the Couple
trends into a classy, artistic genre.
Latest trends in bridal henna designs
is the incorporation of colors in between
henna motifs, the addition of
stones and blings, the inclusion of
glitters or metallic dusts. Geometric
patterns and white henna designs are
also in vogue today.
The henna needs to be kept on
for a minimum of 4 hours for deep
and uniform color. The longer the
paste is kept, the deeper will be the
color. The color actually intensifies
depending on one’s body heat, so
the henna-painted body parts can
be wrapped in plastic wraps or foils
to seal in the body heat. A mixture
of lemon juice and sugar should be
applied to the designs with a brush
or light cloth at every 1 hour interval
so that the dried Mehendi does not
fall off and stays put ensuring better
color. Another way to ensure better
color development is to dry roast
some cloves on a tawa and letting the
hands soak up the smoke. The Mehendi
should never be removed by
water after it has dried and should
be done by simply rubbing the hands
together as the dried bits come off
easily.
Artistic Hands
Gone are the days when
certain aunties and sisters
were in demand around
the neighborhood for
their expertise in Mehendi designs.
Now Mehendi ceremony centers
around professional Mehendi artist
who specializes in the latest trends
in henna art. Traditional Indian designs
include peacock motifs, floral
designs, bride/groom replicas and
other elements that cover every inch
of the hand, forearms, feet and calves.
The fingertips are generally covered
in thick layers of henna paste. The
idea is to adorn the bride’s body in
imitation of expensive Jewellery.
For those who are minimalists,
they can choose Arabic designs where
the Mehendi motifs are generally
applied to one side of the hand and
feet and do not extend to forearms
or calves. Floral and paisley motifs
dominate this style and the designs
are generally curvy with lots of emphasis
on vines. Indo-Arabic style
of Mehendi fuses these two design
The Conventional Custom
The Mehendi Ceremony generally
takes place the day before the wedding
in the morning. The bride and the
groom’s family observe this ritual
separately at their own residences.
It is traditionally a women-centric
ceremony with the men of the
family generally not participating.
The outfits preferred for the
ceremony are simple, in light colors,
nothing too flashy.
The venues are decked up with
flowers and colorful draperies. The
bride wears a light yellow or light
green colored Lehenga or Salwar
Kameez with short sleeves preferably
and the groom wears Kurta Pajama
also in light colors. It is not compulsory
for the groom to wear Mehendi, but a little
bit is applied on his hands and feet in simple
dots or small designs. The ceremony also involves
the application of oil on the groom’s hair.
The henna for the bride’s ceremony has to arrive from
the groom’s side along with some other gifts like fruits, dry
fruits and sweets.
Women of the house assemble and the Mehendi is either applied by one of
the bride’s relative or nowadays by professional Mehendi artists. Designs are
more elaborate and depending on what the bride prefers, the henna is applied
on the front and back of her palm, forearm, till above the elbows, and on the feet
till below the knee. Elderly ladies sing traditional Mehendi songs with dholaks
and other musical instruments. Women relatives of the bride also get Mehendi
applied
to their hands,
although the designs are not
as elaborate as the bridal Mehendi.
Popular Beliefs
The Mehendi ceremony contains
within itself a host of traditional beliefs
that are handed down the generations.
Traditionally, somewhere
within the intricate bridal Mehendi,
the groom’s initial is included.
In post-marriage ceremonies, the
groom has to look and find it out.
This facilitates a nice ice-breaker for
the newly wedded couple especially
in case of an arranged marriage.
It is also said that the darker the
color of the Mehendi, the more love
the bride will receive at her in-laws
and especially from her husband.
The longevity of the color of Mehendi
has special significance as well.
In older days when arranged marriages
were predominant, the bride
retaining her Mehendi while visiting
her parents’ house after the wedding
signaled her mother that the in-laws
were considerate and caring.
Be Fit & Fine
HEALTH and FITNESS
with Beauty
130 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

Fitness First
How We Maintain our Body Fit & Fine with Beauty
Worry less, workout
more. Let your body
speak gracefully. Be
your own fitness enthusiast.
Since childhood, it's every
girl's desire to showcase her best
version may it be with her beauty,
hair, makeup or that waistline. For
guys, on the other hand, its always a
personality and stiffness that comes
into play with that subtle smile and
trimmed beard, a fit body with a
well-fitted tux is a treat to glare at. All
in one the idea is to be active, look
great and act flawlessly on the D-day
which has well inserted the idea of a
proper workout and healthy eating to
keep calm and stay fit.
Practice healthy lifestyle.
With the tech-savvy generation,
the workload is nonetheless tiresome
and the long working hours,
heavy pollution, poor eating orders,
missing on average water intake per
day etc has majorly contributed to
bad skin and lethargic body which is
damn uncool. Thus weddings play a
vital role in order for the couples to
infuse healthy living by giving immense
importance to their nourishment
and physical routine.
After all, a positive mind and
healthy body image leads to a stronger
persona and keeps you fit, active
and energized.
Make water your
best buddy.
And there is no replica for this
one. Keep yourself super hydrated as
there is no substitute for this. May it
is for that clear glowing skin or for
fighting that bloated tummy, water
can fight them all. Consume at least
3-4 liters daily for best results.
Sleep but don't oversleep
yeah!!
Sleep, like water, has no alternative.
In order to keep your mind and
body function in sync, sleep plays
a major part. A quality sleep of 7-8
hours a day, with absolutely no disturbance,
is one that nurtures you.
But anything going over the limit
Wedding Moments / May, 2018 131

is disastrous same is in the case of
sleep. Oversleep like overeating has
many adverse side effects to it.
Lousiness, puffiness under the
eyes, untimed hunger alarms and
worst of all sleeping at the wrong
timings leads to an unhealthy lifestyle.
So make a proper routine and
never compromise on your 8 Hour
special sleep.
Smoothies and Juices
The great way to keep off those
hunger buzz off and to kick those
extra flabs by the ultimate vegetable
smoothies and fruit juices. Easy to
carry, they are a great way to begin
your day with and a load of energy
and vitamins helps in radiating that
skin and prevents you to hop on that
junky-junk.
Take your gym in open with everything
evolving this wedding season
and let's play with our workouts
too. It's time to take the gym out of
those 4 walls and sweat it all out. Reuse
that staircase as a cross trainer
and that walking track for sprints
sidelining the old treadmill. Train
with a purpose of achieving flexibility,
dynamism, and strength. Stick to
long-term fitness mantra, the shortcuts
won't help much!
Tips to Put Your best foot forward.
Work out for that Tine waist and Well
Defined Collar Bones.
Every girl desire to look eternally
beautiful, attractive
and confident on her wedding
day so it is the perfect
opportunity to start getting into
tip-top shape by working out. It’s
no secret that exercise “does a body
good.” But did you know that working
out can do your “beauty” good as
well? Exercise can have a very positive
impact in keeping you fit and
healthy.
Beauty isn’t some vapid and su-
perficial pursuit that exists solely
to sell products, wag tongues, and
produce drool. Beauty is actually
precisely perceived, purposeful, and
rooted in hard science—more than
abstract and random opinion. So in
order to look beautiful, it is important
to keep yourself healthy physically
and mentally.
And that’s why beauty serves
as the foundation for our feelings,
our happiness, and our existence.
Though, looking good is
not perfect till it is well
presented. It is not easy as
well because we have to
take some factors into consideration
– the environment, sun exposure,
food we consume, time, genes, etc.
Exercise to make your
skin radiant..!!
Exercise can have incredible
benefits on the skin which are often
overlooked when we’re busy looking
for the next sought after cream
to plump skin, minimize
wrinkles and reduce
breakouts. We’re too
busy searching for that
miracle product or wonder
supplement that will solve all our
skin problems with very minimal
effort.
Wedding Moments / May, 2018 133

For truly radiant skin, you need
to start seeing your daily workout
as a beauty treatment. I mean, it
increases circulation which brings
extra blood flow and oxygen to the
skin, which will give you a postfacial
glow without the price tag. It
boosts your self-confidence almost
immediately and nothing is more
sexy and beautiful than confidence!
Regular exercise also improves your
sleep patterns and reduces stress and
anxiety.
Just one hour of exercise per week
can make you significantly happier
and appealing on your wedding day.
To improve our physique, we stress
on exercising by hitting a gym, doing
yoga, swimming, walking etc. but
what about exercising our face? After
all, that is the first thing which makes
an impression. It is the identity we
present to the world and it speaks a
lot about us. It is similar to a cover of
a book, which is then continued with
the inside story.
Simple Facial exercises
and Yoga tricks
for a Gorgeous and
Confident Bride
Ladies, we know that your life can
be an absolute whirlwind after your
engagement. On one hand, there
are the highs of celebrating your
love, spending time with friends and
family, planning the future together,
and on the other hand, there are
the lows of juggling several things,
financial pressures, time crunch,
and so on. All these can lead to
overwhelming emotions, fatigue and
a loss of connection with oneself.
Well, in such a situation, yoga
offers an excellent way to prepare for
the big event. Here are a few easy,
low-impact yoga tricks to help you
stretch, bend, twist and breathe your
way to get a gorgeous glowing face.
Follow these simple exercises to
tighten your face and make yourself
look lovelier than before. They are
easy to follow and are less time
consuming. Repeat it 10 times and
follow it for a couple of weeks. You
will start noticing the results after
that.
For your jawline
The platysma is the muscle that
connects your jawline to your shoulders.
Loosening of this muscle leads
to the double chin and sagging skin
on the neck. Here is an exercise to
tone the neck, chin and jaw area.
Do This Exercise: Stand or sit
straight, and tilt your head back as
if to look at the ceiling. Hold your
head still. Now touch your tongue to
the roof of the mouth. You will feel
a slight tingling pain in your neck
because of the contraction of muscles.
Now let go, and bring your chin
down to your neck region. Repeat
exercise in sets of five, holding your
tongue for about 25-30 seconds.
Double chin reduction
A problem mainly faced by those
who are on the heavier side can become
a serious threat later on as they
begin to loosen up. Try this exercise
daily to shape up your chin and neck.
Do This Exercise: Keeping your
posture upright and your neck erect
and press your lower lip over your
upper lip. Now, smile and lift the
corners of your lips. After this, using
your palms, rub the underlying
muscle as vigorously for a few times.
As soon as you start feeling the hint
of strain on your lower neck region,
stop.
Facial yoga
This style of yoga helps to tone the
muscles of your neck and face. It increases
blood circulation and relieves
tension in facial muscles. The key to
face yoga is holding your breath in
and then expelling air out in a manner
which disciplines your face muscles.
Forehead repairing
Here is an exercise designed to reduce
wrinkles on your forehead. This
exercise will help you to find your
way towards a smoother and ageless
forehead.
Do This Exercise: This is one of
the simplest exercise that you can
do anytime and anywhere you want
without getting any questioning
looks. All you have to do is make a
surprised expression. Yes, act surprise
to smoothen out the lines from
your forehead. Without wrinkling
your forehead, widen your eyes as
much as possible. Repeat this at least
8-10 times and do it twice a day to
see a smoother forehead.
Flex your brows
Eyebrows loose density and lack
firmness with age. Sagging eyebrows
would make your face look pale and
dull. Escape the fate of aged eyebrows
with this exercise. Do This Exercise:
Use the tip of your fingers to
hold your eyebrows from right below
your brows. Now, put some pressure
on your brows and lift them up and
outwards with your eyes wide open.
Hold this for at least 5-7 seconds. After
this, use the muscles above your
brow to press down against your fingers
(again for 5 seconds). This will
work well on the flexibility of your
brows.
Work those cheeks
This particular workout helps
to firm your cheeks. This exercise
also helps to eliminate pouches on
your face and laugh lines near your
mouth. Do This Exercise: Separate
your cheek muscles to the corner of
your mouth using your fingers. Now,
suck your cheeks in and lift your jaw.
This will bring out the creases on either
side of your face. After this, use
both your middle fingers, placing
them upon the creases to smoothen
the skin. Repeat the movement for
15-20 times.
Chew a gum
Chewing gums actually helps to
fight signs of aging. When done in
moderation, chewing gums tend
to provide a steady and consistent
movement of facial muscles. This
helps to keep the facial muscles
toned and makes the surrounding
skin much firmer. It also helps in the
smoothening out skin. Apart from
these, add 8-10 glasses of water to
your daily diet. Water helps to keep
the skin elasticity intact. It is one the
cheapest and easily available magical
potion to take care of your many skin
and health problems. So, use these
exercises to flaunt an ageless and
flawless face!
Hindu Wedding Rituals
Wedding Moments / May, 2018
141

The Dharmic Hindu
Wedding Rituals
Souls made in heaven,
united on Earth
A
beautiful bond now
entering a completely
new phase of life is one
overwhelming time. In
fact, it is a union of two individuals,
two souls & two families for a
lifetime.
According to Hindu beliefs, souls
are made in heaven, and once you
are married, the bond is supposed
to last for seven lifetimes. It is
considered to be a turning point in
an individual’s life as one enters the
second important phase or ashram
of his life – the ‘Grihasthashram ‘.
A lot of importance is associated
with marriages in Hinduism as it
is considered to be one of the most
important duties of a man's life.
Through marriage, he is paying his
debt to his forefathers, by procreating
children and ensuring the
continuation of his family's lineage.
Hindu weddings are long processes,
with various rituals that may take
days to be executed. Every single
custom and practice in a wedding
ceremony has deep philosophical
and spiritual significance.
Throughout the world, the
Hindus adhere to these set of rituals
and continue on the traditions of
marriage that are unique amongst
those in the world.
The disparity in
Hindu Weddings
Weddings among Hindus in
India are a set of complex customs
and vary considerably from region
to region. Each community has their
own spin on the basic Hindu wedding
ceremony based on geographical
location and cultural influences.
While in some communities, it is a
simple but elegant affair, in others,
weddings spell magnificance and
pomp.
In North India, the wedding
proceedings are generally termed
as ‘Vivah Sanskar’ whereas in most
of South India it is referred to as
‘Kalyanam’. Hindu weddings are
basically a Yajna ritual with the Fire
Deity or Agni as the primary witness.
The rituals are primarily handled
and carried out along with Sanskrit
Mantras, according to guidelines
laid down thousands of years ago
by sages who created the Vedas. In
some cultures, weddings take place
during daytime, while in others they
were assembled only after sunset.
In some communities like Kerala,
The Nair weddings are matrilineal
instead of patriarchal which the
norm is almost everywhere else.
While most north Indian weddings
are big on fun, frolic, and colors
whereas weddings in South India are
142 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

comparatively demure and modest. Although there are
countless disparities across the country when it comes
to wedding rituals, among most Hindu communities,
weddings are elaborate events with multiple rituals being
observed throughout many days. The common theme of
all different versions is the fervor along with a proclivity
towards adherence to traditions.
Also, the involvement of the extended family and
friends are must in Indian Hindu weddings. There are
certain common pre-wedding, wedding day and postwedding
customs that are generally observed by all
Hindus.
Pre-wedding Riti-Riwaz
As arranged marriages are still the primary style
of marriage among Hindu, pre-wedding ceremonies
are directed towards finding the perfect match for a
prospective bride or groom's families. That is either
through a family friend or a professional matchmaker
or from a modern perspective through matrimonial
sites. Even in the context where the couples who are
going for a love marriage, the two families are to be
introduced to each other and agree upon the finer points
of the impending union. Most communities stress upon
a horoscope matching before proceeding further on any
decision. If the stars of the boy and girl are in perfect
harmony, then the marriage discussions proceed further.
The two families meet to discuss the finer details of the
forthcoming event. A date gets fixed when the formal
announcement of the wedding takes place. This is
generally known as the Engagement ceremony Or Roka
ceremony.
Engagement or Sagai Ceremony
Hindu engagement ceremony traditions vary across
different states and ethnicities. There are various terms
associated with it like Mangini, Sagai, Ashribaad,
Nishchayam etc. Major cultural traditions across various
provinces are outlined below:
The engagement ceremony is known by many names
– Sagai in Haryana, Roka in Punjab, and Exchange of
rings may take place in some cultures between the bride
and groom-to-be. But there is almost always an exchange
of gifts between the two families symbolizing acceptance
of the match and as a gesture of welcoming into each
other’s families. In most cases, the date of the wedding is
decided on the day of the engagement ceremony.
Generally, there is a gap of a few months between the
engagement and the wedding for the families to prepare
for the big day. As the wedding day approaches, there are
few rituals that are observed like Ganesh Puja, Mehndi,
Sangeet and Haldi. In most cultures, a puja is held by
both the bride and groom’s families. The families pray to
Lord Ganesha to remove all obstacles from the couple’s
life path.
Mehendi
Mehendi is mostly a North Indian
tradition where a paste of henna
is applied on the bride's and groom's
hands. For the bride, the designs
are intricate, elaborate and artistic.
Women in the family gather and
get their hands on Mehendi as well.
Nowadays other cultures like Bengalis
and South Indians have
also adopted this tradition of
applying Mehendi before the
wedding. The concept lies in
the old saying that first, it's a
symbol of "Shringar" which
the bride officially wears
and secondly, it said that
darker the color of bride's
Mehendi, the more is she
loved by her husband.
Sangeet
Ceremony
The Sangeet is a celebration
of coming together
of the two families in the union
of their children Women of the family
get together several days before
the wedding day with dholaks and
traditional instruments. The women
of the house will prepare the bride
for her wifely duties through simple
songs, sometimes teasing her and
some emotional at the same time
conveying their love to her by surrounding
the bride and sing traditional
wedding songs generally called
“Banna-banni” in north India.
It is most popular among Punjabis
and Gujaratis. The traditional
Punjabi sangeet generally includes
performances of Bhangra and singing
of Gidda songs.
Sangeet nowadays is celebrated
with the union of both the families
at a common venue. A grand stage
is set where the performances take
place. The choreographers teach
trendy dance steps to the entire relative
bandwagon. The relatives perform
in pairs or in groups. Sisters
and brothers from each side will
generally dance in groups. Even the
bride and the groom take part in the
performance, dancing to romantic
numbers. DJs are hired to create
an ambiance where guest can dance
their hearts out.
Haldi ceremony
In our Indian culture, Haldi or
turmeric holds a special place of honor.
It is known for its anti-inflammatory
and other healing properties,
because of which it has become popular
as a medicine as well. And, one
area where it holds the most important
place is when it comes to Indian
traditions. In Indian weddings, this
amazing ingredient has an entire ceremony
to its name.
The haldi ceremony is the one
in which a paste of haldi is applied
on the bride and the groom’s body
before their wedding. This ceremony
is held at both the bride and the
groom’s place, on the morning of the
wedding day. In a few cultures, this
144 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

ceremony is also held a day before
the wedding, after the Mehendi ritual.
Barat
Barat is one of the most fun-filled
traditions in the entire wedding ceremony.
It is basically the procession,
which proceeds from the house of
the groom, towards the wedding
venue. The procession is attended
by all the relatives and friends from
the groom's side. The groom sits on
a decorated horse or an elephant to
reach the venue. Recently, we are
witnessing elite cars taking the place
horse and camels and elephants.
The spruced-up groom is the center
of attention as he is elaborately
dressed for the occasion. The groom
wears a turban with ‘sehra’, which
is a flower veil over his face before
his departure for the venue, Tilak is
applied on his forehead. His sisters
and paternal aunt feed the horse or
elephant with sweetened grain after
that, groom sits on the horse, followed
by his congregated folks.
Everybody dances on the tunes
of the song and music played by the
band accompanying them. On the
arrival, all the followers of the barat
are greeted by the people from the
bride’s side. The mother of the bride
applies tilak on groom’s forehead
and performs aarti to ward off any
evil.
He was offered a token of gratitude
along with the family members
in the form of money from the bride’s
side. After this, the groom leaves for
the sight of Jaimala, for the exchange
of garlands with the bride.
Wedding Rituals
Var Mala Ceremony
Var Mala ceremony is the most
crucial ritual of main day ceremony.
It is also known as Jaimala and
basically involves an exchange of
garlands between the bride and the
groom. Like all other customs and
rituals, this is the most significant
ceremony which finds reference even
in the Vedic literature.
It is an ancient practice and is still
observed in India. The var mala ceremony
takes place after the groom
reaches the venue for the wedding,
along with the barat. The Jaimala
ceremony begins with the bride trying
to put garland around the neck
of the groom. This is prevented by
groom's friends, in order to tease the
bride. To enable the bride to perform
the ritual, the associates on her side
helping her to do the same. This is
one of the most awaited moments of
the wedding as everyone enjoys the
tussle between the two parties as well
as the new couple. Finally, the groom
also puts the garland around bride's
neck. This ceremony indicates that
the bride has accepted the groom as
her loving husband.
Vivah rite
Vows made in the presence of the
sacred fire (Sanskrit: Agni) are considered
unbreakable, with Agnideva
(lit. God/Lord of Fire; c.f. Latin
cognates: ignis+deus) held as both
witnessing and blessing the couple’s
union.
Every Phera taken holds a specific
meaning. Hindu marriage ceremonies
involve elaborate rituals,
one of the most important being
the "saat phere” or the seven steps
to marriage. This ritual involves the
bride and groom circumambulating
around the sacred fire seven times
while the priest chants the holy mantras.
According to ancient Hindu beliefs,
marriages are made in heaven
and solemnized on earth and once
the marriage is solemnized, the two
souls are joined by an unseen sacred
thread for seven lifetimes.
The seven vows taken during the
Saptapadi are the seven promises
which the bride and the groom make
to each other to lead a happy and
prosperous life.
They are bound together by an
unseen thread that is protected by
these promising words.
Kanyadaan
The key step of Hindu wedding
ritual is Kanyadaan. Other rituals
vary according to regional cultures
but this is the key step of a Hindu
Marriage without which the marriage
would be considered incomplete.
Traditionally, the bride’s parents
host the wedding ceremony and the
groom and his family are the guests
arriving from outside to the mandap.
The whole wedding ceremony sort of
depicts a story of the first meeting of
the bride and the groom at the wedding
mandap, the bride's parents giving
her away to this worthy man.
The couple commits to each other
in front of the sacred fire followed
by the couple taking the seven vows
of commitment to the marriage and
the friends and families blessing the
newlywed couple. The groom arrives
at the bride’s house and welcomed by
the bride’s parents with an arti, then
by giving a drink of milk and honey
known as Madhu Parka ceremony
and finally before he arrives at the
mandap the bride’s father washes the
groom’s feet. The bride arrives at the
mandap and the couple lay their eyes
on each other. These rituals are presented
in various forms among different
Indian communities.
The father of the bride then gives
her away to the groom in a ceremony
known as Kanyadaan. The left hand
of the bride is placed on the groom’s
right hand and the bride’s parents utter
the following words while giving
her away ‘Today, the bride is Laxmi
and the groom is Vishnu. By joining
their hands in marriage, we repay the
debt to our forefathers by continuing
the next life cycle.’
Kanyadaan is considered to be the
noblest act of offering that a person
can perform and by doing it the parents
of the bride are absolved of all
their bad karmas. The groom accepts
the bride’s hand and they promise
each other that while pursuing a life
of Dharma, Artha, and the Kama,
they will remain faithful to each other.
This is known as Paanigrahan.
Next, the sacred fire is lit at the
center of the wedding mandap and
is considered to be the prime witness
of the marriage rituals. The couple
pours ghee to the fire as an offering
and prays to the Gods for Santati
(children), Sampatti (wealth &
prosperity) and Deergharogya (long
and healthy lives). This is known as
the Vivaha Homa. During the Laja
Homa, the bride's brother pours rice
on her palms and the couple offers it
to the sacred fire together. The ends
of their garments are tied in a knot
146 www.weddingmomentsmagazine.com

and they perform Agni Pradakshina
where they make seven circles
around the Sacred Fire uttering the
promise to each other to be eternal
partners and complement each other
in life's journey. At the end of the
seventh circle, the bride moves to
the left side of the groom indicating
that she is now part of his life. The
final most important ritual in a Hindu
Wedding is the Saptapadi or the
Seven Sacred Vows. The bride takes
seven symbolic steps while pushing
a stone along the floor with her
left foot while the groom assists her.
They reiterate the aspirations of their
married life as each step signifies a
specific promise that couple makes
to each other family duties and spiritual
growth On completion of this
ritual the marriage is concluded and
the couple seeks blessings from elders
of the families.
Post Wedding Rituals
Vidaai
Post wedding rituals primarily
comprise of Vidaai, the departure
of the bride from her home to arrival
at the groom's mansion generally
followed by a reception. During the
Vidaai ceremony, the family of the
bride gives her an emotional sendoff
and the bride throws back three
handfuls of rice and coin over her
shoulders to signify the end of her
debt to her parents for nurturing her
and wishing prosperity upon them.
Warm Welcome to New bride
On the arrival at the groom’s
house, the new couple is welcomed
by the groom’s mother, with a traditional
aarti. The bride enters her inlaw's
house by displacing a container
filled with rice signifying that she
is the spreader of abundance to her
new family.
She then dips her feet in a mixture
of red vermillion and enters the
house, leaving footprints on the floor.
This ritual is practiced as the bride
is considered as a form of Goddess
Laxmi. This is followed by a number
of games which are organized in order
to make the newlywed bride feel
comfortable and at ease with her new
family members.
Wedding Reception
A reception is either organized by
the bride's family after the wedding
rituals have been completed to bless
the new couple.
Or in some cultures, it is arranged
by the groom's family after the bride
has arrived from her paternal home.
The couple generally gets relaxed at
this stage and is all set to celebrate
the last extravagant event of marriage
bandwagon with close friends
and family.
