COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF JOHNSON COUNTY
MISSION & SERVICES
To serve the people of Johnson County by growing endowments and distributing funds to build a
greater community.
The Community Foundation of Johnson County (CFJC) is changing the world in Johnson County by
connecting those who care with those who need.
n The CFJC is the grant making charity of choice for people who seek to change the world by
making an immediate and lasting impact on the community. Donors may give to existing funds
or establish their own funds. For now, endowments qualify for the Endow Iowa Tax Credit. Total
CFJC assets in FY 2017 were $26.8 MM.
n By giving through the CFJC, donors support arts and humanities, education, health and
human services, environmental and animal, and public and societal benefit organizations. Total
donations in FY 2017 reached $5.8 MM.
n The CFJC receives and reviews grants submitted by Johnson County non-profits in the summer.
Community members participate in the grant review process for funding requests submitted
from organizations in the areas listed above. Total grants distributed in FY 2017 were $1.9MM.
n Grants are awarded by the CFJC directly and on behalf of donors at a luncheon in the fall.
HOW TO HELP
GOODWILL OF THE HEARTLAND
MISSION & SERVICES
The mission of Goodwill of the Heartland is to advance the social and economic
well-being of people who experience barriers to independence. When you
donate and when you shop our stores, you create jobs and other opportunities for
people with barriers: individuals with disabilities, veterans, seniors, youth facing
employment challenges, people overcoming substance abuse; those that may be
unemployed or underemployed and lacking job skills and work experience for a
variety of reasons.
HOW TO HELP
You can support Goodwill by becoming a regular donor - donate clothing and
household items and computers and related technology and encourage others
to do the same. Organize a workplace or community donation drive event. In
addition to helping us stock our stores, you’ll be giving new life to old things
and diverting usable goods from area landfills. Provide training and employment
opportunities at your business for Goodwill clients. Contract with Goodwill for
your light manufacturing, assembly and packaging needs. Become a regular
shopper of our 17 stores and online auction sites, shopgoodwill.com and
restitch.com, where you will discover incredible value and unique finds every day.
Since the Flood of 2008, Matthew 25 has worked to rebuild and redevelop flood-impacted
neighborhoods through a variety of programs, such as the Block by Block program, which restored
nearly 300 homes. Today, Matthew 25 offers a virtual “toolbox for neighborhood building.”
