HIGH SCHOOL CONDO SMALL
GROUP TIME
This year at High School Beach Retreat, we have provided
a new tool for you to use to create conversation and see
life change happen in small groups. Each morning, your
small groups will watch a film and teaching by one of our
youth pastors. You will then use the provided discussion
guide to spark conversation. Here is a breakdown of each
element of the discussion guide and how to best use it:
TITLE: Each morning will have a title. This is the main
objective for you to guide your small groups to answer for
themselves.
After the film and teaching, there is a section for you
to ask your students what they thought of the film.
Remember, it is okay to have some awkward silence as
each student is trying to process and build courage to
share. Do not feel rushed to give them answers. There will
also be a spot for you to write down what each student
says. Using the same words that the students used will
help you make great points later on as you discuss.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: In this section, we
have provided questions for you to ask in regards to the
film and the teaching. We have also provided insight and
direction to help you create discussion.
BIBLICAL TEXT: We have provided the biblical text
that was taught each day for you to use as a reference.
Remember, God has an amazing plan for you and these
students this week during this small group time. Here are
a few critical reminders that will help you all week long:
• You don’t have to reteach a lesson. The
content we have provided does a great job of
teaching the lesson and covering the material.
Your goal is to generate discussion and guide the
conversation.
• Don’t dominate the conversation. In a perfect
small group, you want to talk 10% of the time
and allow the students to talk 90% of the time.
Allowing the students to talk gives them a chance
to process and discover the Truth for themselves
instead of being given the answers.
• Pray. Always open and close each small group
time with prayer. Ask the Lord to show up and
move in a mighty way as you meet and discuss.
• Buy time. You don’t have to have all the answers.
Always buy yourself time and let the students
know you will find an answer for them if the
conversation gets to a place where you don’t
have the answer.
• Listen. Many of our students just need to be
listened to and heard. They are constantly
receiving information. Many of them need help
processing it. Help them process.
We are super excited
about what God is
going to do during
this condo time and
could not do this
without you. Thank
you for your heart
to love students and
serve the Lord.
