East life
bank beside the Regent’s Canal and with Amnesty
UK's Against Hate awareness campaign, where they
engaged the community by staging a series of live
painting events.
Running such large scale and diverse projects is
not for the feint-hearted. It begins with an idea,
of course, and as is said, 'the devil is in the detail',
including choosing and supporting the artists,
planning and logistics, controlling the budget and
generating media attention. Bablu and his team
seem to do this effortlessly, and always with a smile
and a positive attitude.
Trapped in Zone One is currently hosting the
exhibition, Just Type, at Hanbury Hall in Shoreditch,
which is on through the 9 th of June (it's a cracking
great show so go see it if you haven't already). The
typography-based exhibition features new letterbased
works ranging from graffiti hand-style to
type illustration from some of the world’s brightest
talents, including Boogie, Mr Cenz, Aches, Millsnic,
Tarwane and Mr Christa. They have also launched a
new range of limited edition, type-themed t-shirts
in collaboration with Hackney-based Everpress and
five of the artists from the show.
Bablu is passionate about the arts and a fervent
believer in the power of art to create opportunities
for young people so it was no surprise to find
him supporting the recent #Artskickers launch,
collecting a plethora of comments from the
audience in response to a lovely hand-lettered sign
asking 'How did we make you feel today?' That
community-minded spirit, along with a team who
are just as passionate and committed as Bablu is
inspiring; we can't wait to see what Trapped in Zone
One does next!
