The National Forest School Conference 2018

‘Belong In This Place’

Our 2018 conference will be held during the weekend 5-7 th October 2018 at Bradmoor Woods on the

West acre Estate in West Norfolk. Up to 300 people from Forest School, outdoor learning, conservation,

primary and secondary education will be attending as residential or day visitors.

The interest in Forest School is rapidly expanding and although the FSA is a

relatively new organisation we already have 1,634 individual members and 191

trainee members and an ever-increasing social media reach. Click the logo to

have a look at our social media activity with over 12,000 Likes on Facebook and

over 6,700 followers on Twitter.

‘Belong in this Place!’- Forest School Festival for the whole ‘tribe’.

If you go down to Bradmoor woods during October 5 th to 7th, you’re in for a

wild surprise!

The conference theme for 2018 is 'Recognise, Reciprocate &

Regenerate - A holistic journey to nature connection & belonging'

With this in mind, the conference will be a festival! A place to come together with our

families to celebrate and strengthen our community of nature loving, fun creating, Forest

School practitioners.

The festival will be held amongst the trees and glades of Bradmoor Woods in Norfolk. From

their website you can see that this festival will provide ‘an experience like no other. Our

new neighbours will be herds of Red, Fallow, and Roe Deer and despite the gamekeeper’s

best efforts quite a few Muntjac. There are also foxes, badgers, stoats, and weasels.

Hunting Buzzards circle and scream overhead, and all the while the River Nar meanders past

teeming with aquatic life, fish, water voles, frogs, mayflies, and if we’re lucky the flashing

brilliance of an otter chasing a brown trout upstream… ‘

The event will guide us on the paths of the Head, the Heart and the Hands,

with opportunities to Recognise, Reciprocate and

Regenerate –

Recognise (Head) will address our need for information and

understanding, cognitively learning about ecology in

creative ways, this will include a range of walks, talks and

activities.

Reciprocate (Heart) will guide us on our emotional

connection to nature and each other through activities that

support community and solitude, with nature holding the

space.

Regenerate (Hands) will give us ways of taking forward the

knowledge and skills we have gained and use it to take action

in our own lives and Forest School practice to deepen our

own connection with nature and to support others along the

same path.

The weekend is designed to be Holistic in its approach, and will offer a range of

activities and workshops that will include

Drop in forest School Sessions- offering a range of games and activities for all the

family

Gathering Jays – workshops open to FS practitioners – to gather ideas and crafts to

take back to your forest school.

Wise Owls – workshops, identification walks and talks -a place to delve deeply , for those

whose appreciation for the natural world has developed into a thirst to know all the

details of the what’s, how’s and why’s.

Rooks –The Speakers – A range of speakers discussing a range of approaches, research

and ideas.

Starlings – debates and conversations planned and spontaneous on Forest School.
