On <strong>August</strong> 12 this year, we celebrate Her Majesty<br />
Queen Sirikit’s Birthday. On behalf of the management<br />
and staff at Thai <strong>Smile</strong> Airways, I would like to extend<br />
our warmest regards as we wish for the Queen’s continued<br />
health and prosperity during this grand occasion.<br />
<strong>August</strong> is an important month for Thailand, as it<br />
is not only our Queen’s birthday but also Mother’s<br />
Day. Many citizens take this opportunity to visit their<br />
mothers and participate in water blessing ceremonies.<br />
The employees of THAI <strong>Smile</strong> and I wish for the safe<br />
travels of all our passengers, and we sincerely hope<br />
that you enjoy the special desserts created by the chefs<br />
of THAI CATERING for this auspicious day.<br />
In the past, THAI <strong>Smile</strong> participated in many<br />
activities across the country with our passengers. One<br />
activity we are especially honoured to be a part of was<br />
the transport of a ceremonial Lent Candle summoned<br />
by HM The King of Thailand and ceremonial Buddhist<br />
Monk Robes on behalf of HRH Princess Maha Chakri<br />
Sirindhorn for the annual Lent Candle Festival in Ubon<br />
Ratchathani <strong>2015</strong>. In addition, THAI <strong>Smile</strong> sponsored<br />
the Miss Universe Thailand <strong>2015</strong> pageant by flying the<br />
contestants from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani.<br />
We also wish to introduce our passengers to Yim<br />
Yim an Interactive Voice Response system developed<br />
especially for passengers of THAI <strong>Smile</strong>. Yim Yim will<br />
provide information about flights and travel promotions<br />
via the <strong>Smile</strong> Call Center at 02 118 8888. And in order<br />
to facilitate check-in, passengers can check in online<br />
at (www.thaismileair.com) for all routes from <strong>August</strong><br />
7 onwards.<br />
In this edition of <strong>WE</strong> <strong>Smile</strong> <strong>Magazine</strong>, we take<br />
you to the province of Udon Thani, which is fast<br />
becoming the centre of AEC. We also feature beautiful<br />
resorts from around the world which cater to<br />

We have to admit that eco design is definitely in. One recent<br />
innovative object is this Mobella hammock made of scattered<br />
leather patches. The hammock was created under the concept<br />
of Slow Hand Design, or design that combines an eco-friendly<br />
concept with craftsmanship. The idea was initiated by the<br />
Department of International Trade Promotion, a governmental<br />
body that has pioneered eco-friendly design. The hammock<br />
was recently exhibited at the Eco A Mano showcase in Salone<br />

As the French writer Marcel<br />
Proust described in his book ‘In<br />
Search of Lost Time’, “Flavour could<br />
bring you back to young sweet<br />
memories”, and for Jeremy Cayron<br />
and Jerome Deconinck, two chefs<br />
Sofitel Sukhumvit Bangkok, that<br />
flavour comes from simple menus<br />
from their childhood made by their<br />
grandmothers. This is what started<br />
the idea of “Grandmother’s Recipe”,<br />
the new special international menu<br />
from Voila! restaurant. “Good food<br />
does not need to be complicated,<br />
on the other hand, it can bring<br />
us back to the good old days,<br />
making us feel like we’re home.<br />
For those who are away from home,<br />
just hearing about local food can<br />
make their eyes sparkle”, chef<br />
Jeremy from L’Appart told us. He<br />
continued, “we are pleased to offer<br />
customers the kind of food that we<br />
personally bond to, moreover, we<br />
want Thai people to try homemade<br />
international food and give them recipes<br />
they can recreate themselves.”<br />
French representatives, Chef Jeremy<br />
and Chef Jerome proudly present nine<br />
special menus which are inherited<br />
from their grandmothers: Bouillabaisse,<br />
Farcement Savoyard, Oeuf & La Neige,<br />
Crème caramel, a French dessert<br />
topped with many types of fruits in<br />
order to cut the sweetness. “It helps<br />
you not feel so guilty, and that is the<br />
French way,” Chef Jeremy happily said.<br />
Following the “Cuisine on Stage”<br />
concept of Voila! restaurant, the<br />
“Grandmother’s Recipe” menus will<br />
be cooked live in an open kitchen by<br />
the chefs. After the French theme this<br />
week, Thai food will be featured in<br />
<strong>August</strong>. There will also be an exclusive<br />
chef “definitely a famous one,” Chef<br />

เทศกาล Rice Paddy Art Festival นี้ จะมีระหว่าง<br />
วันที่ 1 กรกฎาคม ไปจนถึงวันที่ 12 ตุลาคม แต่ช่วง<br />
ที่สวยที่สุดจะเป็นช่วงระหว่างกลางเดือนกรกฎาคมไป<br />
จนถึงกลางเดือนสิงหาคม และถ้าเป็นไปได้ เราแนะนำา<br />
ให้ขึ้นไปบนหอคอยสูงเพื่อมุมมองที่สมบูรณ์<br />
The images of gods, familiar characters<br />
or even the Mona Lisa are splendidly recreated<br />
on the rice fields of Aomori, Japan.<br />
This project has brought fame and revived<br />
this sleepy little town—whose economic<br />
system depends on agriculture—in the<br />
most intriguing way. The art pieces are<br />
created by using more than ten varieties of<br />
rice in seven different colours like yellow,<br />
green and purple. With the colour gradient<br />
technique, the shapes become more visible<br />
in this natural canvas.<br />
The project has boosted tourism in an<br />
unprecedented way, and the town has<br />
come back to life. Farmers are able to support<br />
themselves and pass on their knowhow<br />
to another generation. The town of<br />
Aomori has become a pilot study for other<br />
towns to integrate natural art into tourism.<br />
Rice, which is at the heart of the town’s<br />
economy, is still respected and revered<br />
and this is one testament that shows how<br />
art and nature can touch people’s hearts.<br />
The Rice Paddy Art Festival is held from<br />
July 1 to October 12, but the best time to go<br />
is during mid-July to mid-<strong>August</strong>. If possible,<br />
climb the tower for the best views.<br />

วิญญรัตน์ ทําให้เรารู้สึกเหมือนได้เดินเข้าไปในโลกส่วนตัว<br />
ของคนๆหนึ่งมากกว่าที่จะเดินเข้าไปในนิทรรศการศิลปะ<br />
ในวันเปิดนิทรรศการที่ Serindia Gallery นั้นเต็มไปด้วยบรรดา<br />
ญาติมิตรและเพื่อนสนิทที่เจ้าของงานคุ้นเคย ในขณะที่ลูกๆ แฝด<br />
สามของเธอวิ่งเล่นไปรอบๆ ดูคล้ายกับเป็นงานวันเกิดหรือโอกาส<br />
พิเศษของใครสักคน ซึ่งตัวเธอเองก็ยืนยันว่างานนี้มีความหมายกับ<br />
เธอมาก “เป็นนิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งแรกของมุกค่ะ ก็เลยอยากเชิญ<br />
แต่คนที่สนิท คนที่เห็นเรามาตั้งแต่เด็ก อยากให้เขาเห็นว่าจากเด็ก<br />
มาจนโตนั้นมุกเปลี่ยนไปยังไงบ้าง เพราะแต่ก่อนมุกค่อนข้างเกเร”<br />
อย่างที่ชื่อบอก นิทรรศการสิ่งทอ Womb นี้ได้แรงบันดาล-<br />
ใจมาจากสิ่งที่มีค่ามากที่สุดของเธอ นั่นก็คือลูกๆ “มุกเองคิดว่า<br />
ศิลปะนั้นต้องเล่าเรื่องราวได้ และตลอดเวลาเราเล่าเรื่องของคนอื่น<br />
ผ่านงานมาตลอด คราวนี้เราก็อยากเล่าเรื่องของตัวเองบ้าง”<br />
เพลินจันทร์ผู้เป็นหัวเรือใหญ่ของบริษัทดีไซน์ Beyond Living<br />
กล่าว “มุกเลยคุยกับสามี ที่จริงงานนี้ต้องเรียกว่าเป็นนิทรรศการ<br />
ร่วมของเราสองคนมากกว่า เขาก็ถามเราว่าอะไรที่มีความหมายกับ<br />
เรามากที่สุด เราก็ตอบได้ทันทีว่าลูก” เพลินจันทร์จึงเริ่มกลับไปดู<br />
ภาพอัลตร้าซาวด์ของลูกๆ ที่มีลักษณะแตกต่างกันไปในแต่ละ<br />
สัปดาห์ ก่อนที่จะตีความออกมาผ่านผลงานสิ่งทอสีสันสดใสที่ทํา<br />
ขึ้นมาจากเศษผ้าเหลือใช้ที่เธอเก็บไว้ ซึ่งกว่าจะสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน<br />
ได้เสร็จสิ้นตามที่ต้องการก็กินเวลากว่า 2 ปี<br />
เพลินจันทร์กล่าวว่า การได้ทํานิทรรศการนี้ทําให้ความคิดของ<br />
เธอเปลี่ยนไปเหมือนกัน “เมื่อก่อนคิดว่าการจะเป็นศิลปินได้นี่ต้องมี<br />
ความโกรธ ต้องเก็บกด ตัดหูตัวเองบ้าง หรือซึมเศร้าบ้าง ชีวิตเรามี<br />
ความสุขดีอยู ่แล้วจะเป็นศิลปินกับเขาได้เหรอ” เพลินจันทร์พูดยิ้มๆ<br />
“แต่พอได้ทํางานนี้จริงๆแล้ว มุกยิ่งมั่นใจว่าเราทําได้ และก็รู้สึกว่าเรา<br />
เป็นผู ้หญิงที่โชคดี มีสามีที่รัก และมีลูกเป็นแรงบันดาลใจ”<br />

Strolling through Ploenchan Winyaratn's<br />
exhibition is like walking into her personal life.<br />
At the launch event at Serindia Gallery, the<br />
scene seemed more like a birthday party or<br />
special occasion, as the room was packed<br />
with family members and friends. The artist<br />
herself admits that this means a lot to her. "It<br />
is my first solo exhibition, so I wanted to invite<br />
only those close to me, people that have seen<br />
me since I was a child. I wanted to show them<br />
how my life has changed. I used to be quite a<br />
rebellious teen." Like the title suggests, the<br />
"Womb" exhibition is inspired by things that<br />
mean the most to her. "For me, art has to tell a story. My previous work<br />
told the stories of others, so this time I took the chance to tell my own<br />
story," said Ploenchan, designer of Beyond Living. "So I talked to my<br />
husband. Actually this exhibition should be considered a joint exhibition for<br />
the two of us. He asked me what means the most to me, and I didn't<br />
even have to think. The answer was the kids," she started by looking<br />
through ultrasounds and translated them into a series of textile art pieces<br />
created from leftover materials from her office. The process took two<br />
years to complete.<br />
Ploenchan mentions that the exhibition also made her think differently.<br />
"Back then, I thought that if you wanted to be a good artist, you had to be<br />
driven and feel negative things, like anger and suppression. You have to<br />
cut off your ear, or be depressed. I have a happy life, so I wasn’t sure if I<br />
could be an artist," smiles Ploenchan, "but once I started working, I<br />
realized that it was possible. I'm a lucky woman to have a loving husband<br />
and kids that are my greatest inspiration."<br />

มหกรรมภาพถ่าย ‘Photo Bangkok’ เริ่มต้นขึ้นอย่าง<br />
เป็นทางการเมื่อวันที่ 29 กรกฎาคมที่ผ่านมา เทศกาล<br />
ภาพถ่ายที่เกิดมาจากการร่วมมือของสองศิลปินไทย<br />
อย่างปิยทัต เหมทัต และมานิต ศรีวานิชภูมิ นี้ถูกออกแบบมา<br />
ให้พลิกบทบาทวงการศิลปะและการถ่ายภาพในประเทศไทย<br />
หลังจากใช้เวลาบ่มเพาะและระดมทุนกว่า 3 ปีเต็มโดยทีมงาน<br />
กลุ่มเล็กๆ ที่สามารถฟันฝ่าอุปสรรคความท้าทายมากมายเพื่อ<br />
สานฝันของพวกเขาที่จะทำาให้กรุงเทพฯ เป็นศูนย์กลางของการ<br />

ปิยทัตกล่าวว่า “โครงการนี้พัฒนามาจากความคิดเล่นๆ ผม<br />
เปิดแกลเลอรี่ RMA มา 5 ปีแล้ว และผมก็เริ่มคิดว่ายังมีอะไร<br />
ที่ผมสามารถทำาได้อีกบ้าง มีสิ่งหนึ่งที่ผมคิดมาตลอดคือการ<br />
สนับสนุนช่างภาพมือสมัครเล่น สร้างสถานที่ให้พวกเขามาจัด<br />
แสดงผลงาน มีสองอย่างที่ทำาได้คือเรื่องของเงินทุน ดูจากงบ<br />
ประมาณแล้วผมคิดว่ามีความเป็นไปได้และคุ้มค่าที่จะพยายาม<br />
ทำา ไม่แน่ใจว่าจะออกมายังไงเหมือนกัน แต่ก็อยากลองดูครับ”<br />
นอกจากจะเพื่อกระตุ้นพลังแห่งความคิดสร้างสรรค์ สร้าง-<br />
เวทีให้แสดงออก รวมถึงนำาเสนอโอกาสสำาหรับการเรียนรู้และ<br />
การร่วมมือแล้ว มานิตกล่าวว่าโครงการนี้ยังมีวัตถุประสงค์<br />
อีกประการ “เราอยากจะดึงดูดผู้ชมที่ชื่นชอบการชมภาพถ่าย<br />
ตามแกลเลอรี่ต่างๆ แปลกมากที่ผู้ซื้อในไทยมักจะไม่ชื่นชอบ<br />
ภาพถ่ายในรูปแบบอื่น และที่แปลกกว่านั้นคือภาพถ่ายเป็นส่วน<br />

July 29 marks the beginning of the premiere edition of ‘Photo<br />
Bangkok’. Brain-child of two prominent Thai artists—Piyatat Hemmatat<br />
and Manit Sriwanichpoom—this festival is designed to play a<br />
pivotal role in Thailand’s art and photography landscape. For a small<br />
close knit team, the project took 3 full years, as well as a mammoth<br />
amount of research, fundraising, and sponsorship initiatives. The<br />
team persisted through several challenges to make dreams into<br />
reality by developing an event which is likely to establish Bangkok<br />
as the regional hub of image-making.<br />
“It actually evolved from a smaller idea. I had RMA gallery now<br />
for 5 years and was constantly thinking about doing more. One of<br />
the things I always wanted to do is give support to emerging photographers.<br />
I wanted to create an event where they can show their<br />
work, select one or two promising ones, then fund and support<br />
them. With all the available resources, I saw there was a possibility<br />
and felt that it might be worth the attempt. I was not sure what<br />
would happen but I wanted to try,” said Piyatat.<br />
Apart from stimulating artistic energy and making a creative<br />
platform, Manit mentions that this festival has another aim as<br />
well. “We want bring in audiences who would usually run screaming<br />
from a photography gallery. Strangely enough, in Thailand,<br />
art-buyers tend to not appreciate photography as much as other<br />

ผลงานของปรมาจารย์ยุคเก่าและอิทธิพลของ ‘ครู’ เหล่านี้ต่อสังคม<br />
สมัยใหม่ อีกสิ่งที่น่าสนใจคือการที่อาจารย์พุทธทาสภิกขุ หนึ่ง<br />
ในพระสงฆ์ที่มีอิทธิพลต่อชาวไทยใช้ภาพถ่ายถ่ายทอดคำาสอน<br />
ของท่านแก่พุทธศาสนิกชน นอกจากนี้ยังมีการจัดแสดงผลงาน<br />
ของศิลปินภาพถ่ายด้านต่างๆ ตั้งแต่ช่างภาพสารคดีไปจนถึงช่าง<br />
ภาพแฟชั่นกว่า 60 ชีวิต ในพื้นที่ 20 แห่งทั่วกรุงเทพฯ<br />
“ในปัจจุบันคุณไม่จำาเป็นต้องเรียนรู้เทคนิคการถ่ายภาพ<br />
หรอก มันถูกประดิษฐ์สำาเร็จมาจากโรงงานแล้ว เพียงเข้าสู่โหมด<br />
อัตโนมัติจากนั้นก็ถ่ายได้ตามใจชอบเลย แต่ผมมีความหวังใน<br />
วงการภาพถ่ายในอนาคตของไทย แม้ว่าจะค่อยเป็นค่อยไป<br />
แต่ก็อยากเห็นช่างภาพทั้งหลายสร้างสรรค์ผลงานที่น่าสนใจ<br />
ออกมา และพัฒนาคณะเกี่ยวกับการถ่ายภาพในมหาวิทยาลัย<br />
ต่างๆด้วย” มานิตอธิบายเพ่ิม ก่อนที่ปิยทัตจะเสริมว่า “ผมหวัง<br />
เป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าจะสามารถช่วยพัฒนากลุ่มคนที่รักในความคิด<br />
สร้างสรรค์ต่อไป และการที่จะทำาเช่นนั้นได้พวกเรามีกล้อง<br />
ถ่ายรูปนี่แหละเป็นเครื่องมือ”<br />
‘Photo Bangkok’ ยินดีที่จะเสนอโอกาสให้กับช่างภาพ<br />
ทั้งหลายที่จะเรียนรู้ พัฒนาและจัดตั้งกลุ่มเล็กๆขึ้น ที่สำ าคัญที่สุด<br />

art-forms, something rather surprising keeping in mind photography<br />
has been a part of Thai society for a while.” A special exposition,<br />
‘Rediscovering forgotten Thai masters of photography’ revives the<br />
work of old Thai masters and their relevance in contemporary<br />
society. It was intriguing to note how Ajarn Buddhadasa Bhikkhu,<br />
one of the most influential Thai Buddhist monks, used photography<br />
as a means to communicate his teachings. Other exhibitions<br />
feature the works of 60 artists with a variety of expertises, from<br />
documentary to fashion photography, in more than 20 venues.<br />
“In present times, you do not really need to know anything about<br />
the technical side of photography. It’s all done in the factory. You<br />
can just put it in auto mode and there you go. But, I am hopeful of<br />
the future of photography, specially in Thailand. Although slow, we<br />
have seen more art photographers coming up with interesting work.<br />
In a few good universities, a faculty of photography is being<br />
established,” said Manit, while Piyatat added, “We truly hope to<br />
be able to elevate the development of our creative community<br />
through generations, and in doing such, our tool is photography.”<br />
‘Photo Bangkok’ is poised to offer that much needed opportunity<br />
for photographers to learn, develop, form a closer art community<br />
and most importantly, bring out that inner child in us. It helps us<br />
to rediscover ourselves and cherish the joy of making an image,<br />
every hundredth of a second. The festival runs untill October 4.

“จริงๆแล้วจุดเริ่มต้นของโปรเจ็กต์ ‘พับ เพียบ เรียบ ร้อย’ เริ่มมาจากงานศิลปนิพนธ์<br />
ก่อนจบการศึกษาที่คณะมัณฑนศิลป์ สาขานิเทศศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากรค่ะ<br />
ตอนที่กำาลังหาข้อมูลอ้างอิงบังเอิญได้ไปเจอหนังสือ ‘ดอกไม้ไทย’ ที่จัดทำาโดย<br />
คุณสกุล อินทกุล ผู้ก่อตั้งพิพิธภัณฑ์วัฒนธรรมดอกไม้แห่งแรกของโลก เป็นหนังสือที่<br />
รวบรวมรูปภาพศิลปะงานดอกไม้ไทยที่สวยมากไว้ นี่จึงเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นในแรงบันดาล-<br />
ใจของโปรเจ็กต์นี้ค่ะ” วิรินเล่าให้เราฟัง เพื่อทำาให้ผลงานแตกต่างจากคนอื่น เธอจึง<br />
ตัดสินใจตีความความงามของดอกไม้ไทยออกมาผ่านงานเปเปอร์คราฟต์ซึ่งต้องใช้<br />
ความพิถีพิถันไม่แพ้การจัดดอกไม้จริง โดยขั้นตอนในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจะเริ่ม-<br />
ต้นขึ้นจากการหารูปแบบของการพับกระดาษต่างๆให้สอดคล้องกับดอกไม้แต่ละ<br />
ชนิด รวมไปถึงดัดแปลงการพับให้ได้รูปทรงที่ต้องการ เมื่อกรีดแพตเทิร์นให้เป็น<br />
รอยแล้วจึงค่อยๆ พับด้วยมือทีละส่วน แล้วค่อยนำ าแต่ละส่วนมาประกอบกันอีกที<br />
โดยวิรินเลือกใช้รูปทรงเรขาคณิตและสีสันมาแทนดอกไม้ชนิดต่างๆ<br />
“เราอยากให้คนไทยหันมาสนใจในเรื่องของศิลปะไทยที่อยู่รอบๆตัวมากขึ้น<br />
การนำาเสนอของเราจึงต้องมีการพัฒนารูปแบบให้ดูทันสมัยและน่าสนใจยิ่งขึ้นค่ะ”<br />
วิรินกล่าว “ตอนที่ทำาศิลปนิพนธ์ คนที่บ้านเห็นก็ชอบ เราก็เลยจริงจังเลย พอเริ่ม<br />
ออกสู่สายตาคนภายนอกก็ได้รับผลตอบรับดีมากค่ะ อย่างล่าสุดที่ทาง TCDC ได้<br />
นำาผลงานของเราไปจัดแสดงในงานดีไซน์วีค D’Days ที่ปารีสด้วย มีชาวต่างชาติ<br />
ถ่ายรูปลงอินสตาแกรม เพื่อนเราไปเห็นเขาก็เอามาให้เราดู ดีใจมากค่ะที่คนให้<br />
ความสนใจ” ฟังดูอาจจะเป็นเรื่องเล็กๆ ของนักออกแบบคนหนึ่ง แต่ถ้ามองในมุม<br />
กว้างแล้ว ผลงาน ‘พับ เพียบ เรียบ ร้อย’ ไม่เป็นเพียงงานดีไซน์สุดเก๋จาก<br />
ประเทศไทยเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นเหมือนทูตทางวัฒนธรรมที่ช่วยเผยแพร่ความเป็น<br />
ไทยออกสู่สายตาชาวโลกด้วย<br />
เมื่อเราถามถึงของขวัญสำ าหรับวันแม่เมื่อปีที่ผ่านมานั้น วิรินตอบว่า “เราก็ให้พวงมาลัย<br />
กระดาษที่เราทำาให้กับคุณแม่ เพราะเราถือว่าเราทำาเอง เราพับเอง เป็นความตั้งใจ<br />
ของเราที่จะทำาให้คุณแม่ น่าจะสื่อถึงความในใจที่เราต้องการจะให้คุณแม่ได้มากกว่า<br />
การไปซื้อดอกไม้มาให้ค่ะ” สำาหรับปีนี้ ใครที่ยังไม่มีของขวัญให้คุณแม่ เวิร์คช็อป<br />
‘พับ เพียบ เรียบ ร้อย’ ที่ใกล้จะมาถึงนี้อาจเป็นทางเลือกหนึ่งที่น่าสนใจเช่นกัน<br />

The clear voice of artist Wirin Chaowana,<br />
creator of the ‘Pab Piab Rieb Roi’ project<br />
that was recently showcased at a prestigious<br />
French design fair, came through the<br />
phone as she started to speak about the<br />
project’s beginning. It started from her<br />
passion for traditional Thai floral art and<br />
paper craft. Combined together, the<br />
results are modern, cutting-edge, and<br />
just perfect for special occasions like<br />
Mother’s Day.<br />
“The project was born from my<br />
graduate thesis for my communication<br />
design studies at the Faculty of Decorative<br />
Arts, Silpakorn University. When I was<br />
doing research, I came across the Thai<br />
Flowers book by Sakul Intakul, creator<br />
of the world’s first Museum of Floral<br />
Culture. I was so impressed with the<br />
Thai floral arts that I came up with my<br />
own project: Pab Piab Riab Roi,” said<br />
Wirin. To create these exceptional works,<br />
she added a twist by interpreting the<br />
beauty of floral arts though paper crafting,<br />
a kind of art that is as delicate as traditional<br />
floral arrangement. The process starts<br />
with creating the right patterns for the<br />
flowers. After the pattern is done, the<br />
paper is folded into shape by hand.<br />
To differentiate each kind of flower,<br />
Wirin opted for different geometric<br />
shapes and colours.<br />
“I want Thai people to pay more<br />
attention to the Thai arts that surround<br />
us everywhere in our daily lives,” said<br />
Wirin. “When my family saw what I<br />
did for my thesis, they really loved it,<br />
so I began to take it seriously. When<br />
the public saw it, they appreciated it<br />
too. Recently, Pab Piab Riab Roi was<br />
chosen by TCDC to be on display in<br />
the D’Days Festival in Paris and my<br />
friends said there were people who<br />
took photos and posted them on<br />
Instagram. That meant so much to<br />
me.” This may sounds like a small<br />
step of success for a young designer,<br />
but looking closely, Pab Piab Riab Roi<br />
is not only an example of chic design<br />
from Thailand, but also acts as a<br />
bridge that helps promote Thai<br />
traditions in the international arena.<br />
When asked what she gave her<br />
mother on Mother’s Day last year,<br />
Wirin said that it was definitely her<br />
paper floral garland.“I made it myself<br />
and it was created especially for<br />
her, I thought my mom would like<br />
it more than real flowers.”<br />
This year, the upcoming Pab<br />
Piab Riab Roi workshop is open<br />
for people looking to create<br />
something special for the ladies of<br />
their lives on Mother’s Day. An even<br />

on Facebook to write postcards to her son while<br />
travelling. But today, #iwriteto10000mile is a project<br />
that gained nationwide popularity. <strong>WE</strong> <strong>Smile</strong> had a<br />
chance to talk to Pattrica Liptapanlop the woman<br />
who started it all.<br />

How did this project start?<br />
เราชอบเดินทาง ทุกครั้งที่เดินทางจะชอบเขียน<br />
โปสการดหาตัวเอง และหาลูกชายอายุ 12 ‘หมื่นไมล’<br />
ที่บานเรามีตูเหล็กเก็บเอกสารอยูใบหนึ่ง ทั้งตู<br />
จะมีโปสการดติดไวเต็มไปหมด จนกระทั่งเมื่อเรา<br />
พาเขาออกเดินทางดวย ก็จะชวนใหเขาเขียนหาตัว<br />
เองเหมือนกัน ‘เขียนอะไรก็ไดลูก เขียนไปเถอะ’<br />
เพราะเอาเขาจริง มันไมไดสําคัญวาใครจะเขียน<br />
อะไร แตมันสําคัญที่เขาไดเก็บความทรงจํากลับ<br />
บานมาเปนแผนกระดาษดวย แผนกระดาษที่เขา<br />
เปนคนเลือกเอง เขียนเอง และสงเอง ซึ่งแนนอน<br />
... เขาเองจะเปดกลองไปรษณีย และหยิบมันมา<br />
อานเอง กระบวนการทั้งหมด มันเปนเรื่องของการ<br />
เดินทาง การเดินทางของแผนกระดาษความทรง-<br />
จําหนึ่งใบ<br />
We like to travel, and every time we did, we<br />
would write a postcard back home to my son<br />
‘Mueanmile’ or ‘ten thousand miles’) who was<br />
twelve. At home we have a fi ling cabinet full of<br />
postcards. When he was old enough to travel<br />
with us, we told him to write cards back to<br />
himself as well. I told him, “write what you<br />
want, write anything. What matters is the memories<br />
created that will follow this piece of paper,<br />
which you selected yourself.” Sure enough,<br />
when we returned home there were these<br />
cards in our mailbox, and he could read them<br />
to remember the journey.<br />

เหมาะกับเรา กวาเขาจะหาปากกามาเขียน<br />

เพียงหนึ่งใบ ฉันควรจะเลาอะไรดี? จากนั้น<br />
ตองตามหาแสตมป ซึ่งแสตมปในบางประเทศ<br />
ก็ไมใชจะมีขายตามรานของชํา ตองไปที่ไปรษณีย<br />
เทานั้น ... ทั้งหมดนี้ ลองคิดดูสิวา การที่ใครสัก<br />
คนจะสงโปสการดหาเราไดนั้น มันมีคุณคาทาง<br />
ความรูสึกขนาดไหน ทั้งตัวผูสงและผูรับ<br />
These days communication is easy. When<br />
you want to talk to someone it just takes a<br />
few clicks. But think for a while, when<br />
someone sends you a postcard they have to<br />
fi nd the right card, the right pen… it requires<br />
a seat to write, and once you sit you need to<br />
take time to fi t the words into that small<br />
space. Then there are stamps, in many<br />
countries you can only get these at the post<br />
offi ce… imagine all of this. When someone<br />
sends us a postcard, it’s worth so much for<br />
the sender and receiver.<br />

หมื่นไมลเช็คกลองไปรษณียทุกวันจนกลายเปน<br />
กิจวัตร ทันทีที่เขาเห็นโปสการดซึ่งจาหนามาถึงตัว<br />
เอง เขาจะถือมัน เดินตรงเขามาในบาน นั่งลงที่<br />
โซฟา อานทุกใบทันทีอยางตั้งใจ หลังจากอาน<br />
โปสการด เขาจะเกิดคําถามมากมาย ไมวาจะเรื่อง<br />
ราวของวัฒนธรรม ความโดดเดน ของประเทศตน-<br />
ทางนั้นๆ รวมไปถึงตัวผูสงจํานวนมาก ที่หมื่นไมล<br />
เองก็ไมเคยรูจักมากอน ไมเคยเห็นหนา จะเรียก<br />
INSPIRATION<br />
วาคนแปลกหนาก็ได แตทันทีที่เห็นลายมือและ<br />
สํานวนในการเขียน เขากลับรูไดในทันทีวาสงมา<br />
จากใคร (บางคนเคยสงมามากกวาสามใบ)<br />
ปจจุบัน หมื่นไมลจึงมีเพื่อนมากมาย เพื่อนจาก<br />
ขอความบนกระดาษ ทั้งในและนอกประเทศ มัน<br />
คือเรื่องเลาบนกระดาษที่เปรียบเสมือนหนึ่งหนา<br />
ชีวิต ในรูปแบบชอรตโนต<br />
It’s now a routine for him to check his mailbox<br />
everyday, when he gets a postcard he would<br />
read every word carefully. He gets very<br />
curious about the country, culture and origins<br />
of the postcard. Since he’s never seen the<br />
writer, you could call them a stranger, but<br />
he starts to recognize the handwriting and<br />
writing styles. He starts to recognize writers<br />
(some people have sent over three postcards.)<br />
Mueanmile has so many friends both within<br />
and outside the country, just from reading<br />
these stories in short-note form.<br />

For yourself, what was the most valuable<br />
lesson learned from travel?<br />
No plan is the best plan เปนคําจํากัดความที่<br />
นาจะใชและตรงที่สุดในรูปแบบการเดินทางของ<br />
เรา เปลาเซอร เปลาติสต อยางที่ใครบอก แตคน<br />
เราแตละคนมีเบาหลอมของชีวิตที่ตางกันซึ่งหลอม<br />
ใหเราโตมาเปนเราในแบบทุกวันนี้ ซึ่งลักษณะตัว<br />
ตนเราคอนขางเปนคนไมมีแผน ไมมี 123<br />
ขนาดแผนที่ ยังไมดูเลย เคยดูอยูสามสี่ครั้งในชีวิต<br />
และพบวา เราโงเรื่องแผนที่มาก ยิ่งดูยิ่งเสียเวลา<br />
งั้นก็อยาไปดูมันเลย ไปมันเรื่อยๆนั่นละ รวมทั้ง<br />
เราเองก็ไมใชคนที่คาดหวังวาจะตองเจออะไรจาก<br />
การเดินทาง เราเชื่อในขอหนึ่งเสมอวา ทุกชีวิตมี<br />
เสนบางเสนที่มองไมเห็นไดขีดกําหนดไวใหเราแลว<br />
ถามันใช เดี๋ยวก็เจอ ถาไมใช มันก็หลง และ<br />
เมื่อหลง ก็ตองใชประสบการณการเดินทางที่ผาน<br />
มาในชีวิตเอาตัวรอดใหได<br />
No plan is the best plan. This is the truest<br />
statement I think there is. Everyone is molded<br />
diff erently. I never used maps or strict itineraries<br />
(no 123 for me), I might have looked at them<br />
three or four times in my life. I think the more<br />
you look at maps the more time consuming it<br />
is. I also don’t expect to fi nd anything while<br />
travelling. I believe that every life has a destiny<br />
already written, if that’s correct, then we’ll fi nd it,<br />
and if not, we get lost. If we get lost, we have<br />
to use our own experiences to get us through<br />
the journey. The best plans always change.<br />

หนึ่งในกระบวนงานช่างฝีมือไทยโบราณที่มีเอกลักษณ์<br />
อย่าง การเขียนลายรดน้ำา เป็นช่างศิลป์ที่จัดอยู่ใน<br />
หมวดหมู ่หนึ ่งของช่างหลวง หรือที ่เรียกกันว่า<br />
ช่างสิบหมู ่ คำาว่า ลายรดน้ ำา นี ้ไม่ได้หมายถึงลวดลายอัน<br />
ปรากฏขึ้นอยู่บนชิ้นงาน หากแต่หมายถึงกระบวนการวาด<br />
ลวดลาย ปิดทอง และล้างทำาความสะอาดด้วยน้ำา ซึ่งประณีต<br />

Amongst Thailand’s unique crafts is the<br />
intricate technique of Lacquer Work (Lai<br />
Rod Nam), considered one of the ten cardinal<br />
disciplines of Thai art or ‘Chang Sib<br />
Mhoo’. The words ‘Lai Rod Nam’ (washed<br />
pattern) does not refer to the designs, but<br />
instead comes from the technique of gold<br />
leafing, which requires that the piece be<br />
cleansed with water. This technique can be<br />
used on small items to large murals. The<br />
pieces not only demonstrate great skill, but<br />
also the attitude of the Thai people, their<br />
cultural diversity, the ideals of Buddhism,<br />
and perhaps most importantly represents<br />
a link to disappearing historic traditions.<br />
Evidence of lacquer work can be traced<br />
to the Sukhothai period, when Thailand<br />
began trading with China. It flourished<br />
during the Ayutthaya period of the 16th and<br />
17th century, and received royal support in<br />
the early Rattanakosin period. As Thailand<br />
came into contact with other nations, the<br />
lacquerware became influenced by Chinese<br />
and western art. However, with a governmental<br />
change in 1932, and a new policy<br />
focused on economic industry, this art form<br />
was only practised by those who had a<br />
personal interest, and the art of lacquer<br />
work was lost to most Thais. The Queen<br />
Sirikit Museum of Textiles showcases a lacquerware<br />
piece detailing the story of Hanuman<br />
from Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s<br />
collection. With the help of a professor from<br />
the Palace College for Craftsmen, a demonstration<br />
of these ancient techniques was<br />

Materials are fi rst cleaned. A mixture<br />
of kaolin powder (chalk) and water is<br />
rubbed on the surface of the lacquer<br />
work to absorb any grease that may<br />
hinder adhesion. When the chalk dries,<br />
the piece is cleaned with a cloth.<br />

The prototype pattern is outlined on<br />
tracing paper, then a needle is used<br />
to perforate the paper according to<br />
the lines. This paper is placed over<br />
the item’s surface and a chalk powder<br />
is applied. When the paper is removed<br />
the patterns are left behind. This<br />
same technique is used to produce<br />
fi ne European garments.<br />

After painting on the solution, chalk is<br />

‘rak’ (lacquer) is painted over the area<br />
to be gilded. Genuine gold leaf is then<br />
carefully pressed onto the piece. To<br />

the artisans will use a fi nger dipped in<br />
chalk to polish the gilded surface.<br />

สำหรับการค้นหาซากฟอสซิลในประเทศไทย<br />
คุณจะต้องเดินทางไปที่ภาคตะวันออกเฉียง-<br />
เหนือ ซึ่งในปัจจุบันเต็มไปด้วยทุ่งนาเขียวขจี<br />
สุดลูกหูลูกตา ที่เต็มไปด้วยรวงข้าวอ่อนชูช่อ<br />
ช่วงหน้าฝน แต่เมื่อ 200 ล้านปีที่แล้ว ผืนดิน<br />

To find fossils in Thailand, you’ll have to go to<br />
the quiet northeast. Visiting today, you’ll see<br />
expansive rice fields dotted with farmers’ huts,<br />
the entire area is lush green with fresh sprouts<br />
appearing in the rainy season and golden brown<br />
as dry season rolls around. But 200 million<br />
years ago, this was a very different place. It was<br />
around that time that the first dinosaurs arrived<br />
in Isaan, and they would thrive in the fertile area<br />
for millions of years.<br />
Since the 1980s, Thai paleontologists in<br />
partnership with French scientists have collected<br />
thousands of fossils. A myriad of Asian species<br />
were recorded, but our country is also known<br />
for discovering previously unknown species.<br />
Thailand has contributed to paleontology with<br />
some of the oldest specimens found in the<br />
world. Within the province of Chaiyaphum,<br />
the ancient long-necked Isanosaurus made<br />
the ground tremble millions of years before<br />
its famous relative the Brontosaurus ever<br />
took a breath. You might also be surprised<br />
to learn that Thailand has its own T-Rex, the<br />
Siamotyrannus a deadly predator that stalked<br />
the area where Khon Kaen is today.

This is one of the oldest<br />
dinosaurs to be found in Thailand.<br />
The fossil was found in dark red<br />

Unfortunately only two<br />
fossil fragments were found<br />
in Thailand, so we don’t<br />
know much about this petit<br />
creature but we can assume<br />

The Siamotyrannus is considered<br />
a cousin of the well loved<br />
(and feared) Tyrannosaurus<br />
Rex. It was clearly a carnivore<br />
with claws and large, sharp<br />
teeth which could measure up<br />
to four inches. It was 50 million<br />
years older than the T-Rex<br />
although only half the size,<br />
standing at 7.6 metres tall. This<br />
beast roamed the Isaan region<br />
of Thailand, especially in Chaiyaphum<br />
province. It was clearly<br />
on the top of the food chain.<br />

A strange looking dinosaur, the Siamosaurus has<br />
a large crocodile-like head and stood at 9.1 metres<br />
tall. It was likely to hunt fish because it was found<br />
in an area that was once an inland sea. Scientists<br />
believe that Siamosaurus lived most of their lives in<br />
water (like hippos and crocodiles.) It was discovered<br />
in the Phu Wiang area of Chaiyaphum province.

ซิตตะโกซอรัสที่ค้นพบที่จังหวัดชัยภูมินี้<br />
เป็นไดโนเสาร์ที่มี ‘จะงอย’ ปากเหมือนนก<br />
แก้วหรือเต่า โดยไดโนเสาร์พันธ์ุกินพืชนี้มี<br />
ความสูงเพียงแค่ 2 เมตรเท่านั้น ซึ่งถ้า<br />
มันมีชีวิตจริงๆ ก็นับว่าสูงกว่ามนุษย์ส่วน<br />
ใหญ่เพียงเล็กน้อย<br />
Discovered in Chaiyaphum<br />
province this dinosaur is noted<br />
for its “beak” which might<br />
remind you of a parrot or<br />
tortoise. It was a herbivore that<br />
stood on two legs at a height of<br />
just 2 metres tall. If you imagine<br />
it today, it would be a little<br />
taller than most humans.<br />

[Phuwiangosaurus Sirindhornae]<br />
เป็นไดโนเสาร์ตัวแรกที่ถูกค้นพบในประเทศไทย และได้<br />
รับพระราชทานชื่อจากสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ<br />
สยามบรมราชกุมารี โดยไดโนเสาร์ชนิดนี้ถูกค้นพบ<br />
ที่ห้วยประตูตีหมา ในจังหวัดขอนแก่น และภูเวียง<br />
โกซอรัสสิรินธรเนเป็นไดโนเสาร์ชนิดกินพืชที่มีคอ<br />
ยาว หาง และขาขนาดใหญ่<br />
มีความสูงประมาณ 15–20<br />

This was the first<br />
dinosaur to be discovered<br />
in Thailand and is named after HRH<br />
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.<br />
It was found in Huay Pratu Tee Mah<br />
in Khon Kaen province.<br />
Phuwiangosaurus is a dinosaur with<br />
a distinctively long neck, tail and four<br />
large thick legs. They are herbivores and<br />
can grow 15-20 metres in length.<br />

จนดูคล้ายนกกระจอกเทศ เนื่องจากซากที่ขุดพบที่จังหวัดขอนแก่นไม่มีส่วน<br />
กระโหลกศีรษะอยู่ด้วย จึงยังสรุปไม่ได้ว่าไดโนเสาร์สายพันธุ์นี้มีฟันหรือจงอย<br />
ปากเหมือนซิตตะโกซอรัสหรือไม่<br />
This dinosaur was named after the Thai mythical Kinnaree (a<br />
half bird and half woman being) due to its bird-like feet. You<br />
can also compare it to modern day ostriches. Unfortunately,<br />
during excavations in Khon Kaen, the skull was never<br />
discovered, so we can never be sure if it had teeth or a beak<br />
like the Psittacosaurus.<br />

“I got this idea when I saw the giant<br />
rubber duck that travels across the world<br />
and became a symbol of peace. Back<br />
then, our political climate was tense, so I<br />
thought about having a duck here in Udon<br />
Thani as well,” said Ittipol Triwattanasuwan,<br />
mayor of Udon Thani municipality, who<br />
created the duck, “I thought it was cute<br />
and could make people smile. It also<br />
made people realise that Udon Thani has<br />
so many things to offer. There are many<br />
places to visit, take photos and share<br />
beautiful moments.”<br />
But the giant duck is just a fragment of<br />
the bigger picture, which can be seen in<br />
fast-growing Udon Thani. Being at the heart<br />
of the city centre can make you forget that<br />
you aren’t in a capital city. Udon Thani city<br />
is packed with upscale department stores,<br />
community malls, private hospitals, chic<br />
cafes, restaurants, and a planetarium.<br />
“Another factor is that the new generation<br />
of Udon people have returned to their<br />
roots and launched businesses here. We’re<br />
seeing a lot of SMEs, along with endless<br />
restaurants and cafes. When there is<br />
more investment, the economy is pushed<br />
forward. In terms of development, Udon<br />
Thani province has a lot of potential. We<br />
have an airport with fl ights every half an<br />
hour. We also have direct fl ights to Chiang<br />
Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai. Our province is<br />
also on the route of the new high-speed<br />
train system. That is why many big<br />
companies have come here to invest and<br />
build their bases of operation. Because of<br />
this, local people have more choices for<br />
work”, explained the mayor.

อิทธิพนธ์กล่าวว่า อุดรธานียังมีศักยภาพในการ<br />

โดยเฉพาะเมื่อประเทศไทยเข้าสู่ประชาคม<br />
เศรษฐกิจอาเซียน “ตอนนี้เรากำาลังพัฒนา<br />
หนองประจักษ์ให้กลายเป็น AEC Park โดยจะ<br />
มีการปลูกพรรณไม้ของแต่ละประเทศให้คนได้<br />
เข้ามาศึกษาทำาความรู้จักด้วย เรียกได้ว่าเป็น<br />
สวนระดับภูมิภาค นอกจากนี้เรายังตั้งเป้าที่จะ<br />
เป็นศูนย์กลางด้านการแพทย์ในระดับภูมิภาค<br />
เนื่องจากมีโรงพยาบาลเอกชนถึง 3 แห่ง อีก<br />
ทั้งยังมีศูนย์กายภาพบำาบัด ศูนย์ฟอกไต และ<br />
แพทย์ทางเลือกด้วย ซึ่งเราเชื่อว่าคนจากประเทศ<br />
เพื่อนบ้านอย่างลาวและเวียดนามจะต้องมาใช้<br />
บริการมากขึ้นเพราะเข้าถึงได้ง่ายกว่า” อิทธิพนธ์<br />
กล่าว ก่อนที่จะสรุปว่า “แต่ปัจจัยที่เอื้อต่อการ<br />
รับประชาคมเศรษฐกิจอาเซียนมากที่สุดก็คือ<br />
ชาวอุดรเอง เราอยู่กับความหลากหลายด้านเชื้อ<br />
ชาติมาตั้งแต่สมัยที่ทหารอเมริกันมาตั้งฐานทัพ<br />
ที่นี่ ในอุดรเองก็มีหลายชนชาติ ตั้งแต่ชาวไทย<br />
เชื้อสายเวียดนาม ชาวลาว ชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีน<br />
และอิสลาม แถมยังมีเขยอุดรอีก เราคุ้นเคยกับ<br />
ชาวต่างชาติเป็นอย่างดี ผมคิดว่าข้อดีคือคนอุดร<br />
เห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลงมาเยอะ ก็เลยไม่ยึดติด<br />
กับภาพเก่าๆ ไม่ต่อต้านการลงทุนจากภายนอก<br />
แถมยังสนับสนุนด้วยซ้ำา”<br />
แต่แม้จะมองไปข้างหน้า อุดรธานีก็ยังไม่<br />
ละท้ิงอดีต นอกจากแหล่งโบราณคดีบ้านเชียง<br />
แล้ว อิทธิพนธ์แย้มว่าอุดรธานีอาจได้ฤกษ์<br />
ต้อนรับมรดกโลกแห่งที่สองในเร็วๆนี้ ในขณะ<br />
ที่พิพิธภัณฑ์เมืองอุดรธานีกำาลังอยู่ในช่วงบูรณะ<br />
ปรับปรุงครั้งใหญ่ เมื่ออดีตและอนาคตมา<br />
บรรจบกัน สิ่งที่ได้จึงเป็นเมืองยุคใหม่ที่ไม่ลืม<br />
รากเหง้า ซึ่งท้ายสุดแล้วอุดรธานีจะพัฒนาไป<br />
เป็นศูนย์กลางแห่งอาเซียนได้หรือไม่ คงต้อง<br />
ติดตามดูกันต่อไป<br />
Still, what makes a great city is its<br />
people. That is why the municipality’s<br />
considers its citizens in all policies.<br />
They have come up with many promising<br />
projects, including an innovative<br />
library called “The Library by Beyond”<br />
which is aimed at becoming a popular<br />
hangout that embraces the reading<br />
culture. There are also health-promoting<br />
projects like the artificial grass<br />
soccer stadium, public parks and bike<br />
lanes. Last but not least is the ‘Udon<br />
Bike Share’ project that enables locals<br />
to use public bikes and return them<br />
to one of 10 bike spots around the city.<br />
Udon Thani is not only Isaan’s<br />
main city, as Ittipol suggested, it is<br />
also ready to be a regional hub, especially<br />
when the country is integrated<br />
into the upcoming Asean Economic<br />
Community. “We are now renovating<br />
Nong Prajak to become what we<br />
call the ‘AEC Park’, where people of<br />
Asean can come and study our native<br />
plants. It will become a regional park.<br />
Apart from that, we aim to be the<br />
region’s medical hub since we have<br />
three private hospitals, the chiropractic<br />
centre, the hemodialysis centre<br />
and the alternative medicine centre.<br />
We believe that people from neighboring<br />
countries like Laos and Vietnam<br />
would choose to come here because<br />
it’s easily accessible,” said Ittipol before<br />
concluding, “but like always, the<br />
most important factor is the people.<br />
The good thing about the people of<br />
Udon is that they are well accustomed<br />
to foreigners since ethnic diversity has<br />
played a large part in Udon Thani’s<br />
history for so long. During the world<br />
wars, the American GIs set up base<br />
here, but Udon Thani itself has been<br />
a melting pot long before that. Here,<br />
there are Thais with Vietnamese<br />
ancestry, the Laotian people, Thais<br />
with Chinese ancestry, Islamic Thais,<br />
and we have a group of expatriates<br />
that have come to live with their Thai<br />
wives who we call ‘Udon Son-in-Laws’.<br />
So the Udon people get along very<br />
well with foreigners and are always<br />
ready to embrace changes. We don’t<br />
stick to the past and don’t mind if people<br />
from somewhere else invest here. On<br />
the contrary, we welcome them.”<br />
While looking forward, Udon Thani<br />
never forgets its precious heritage.<br />
Apart from the Ban Chiang archaeological<br />
site, Ittipon said there is a high<br />
chance that Udon Thani will welcome<br />
another UNESCO World Heritage site<br />
soon. In the meantime, Udon Thani<br />
museum is also under major<br />
renovation. When the past meets<br />
the future, what we have is a<br />
modern city that cherishes<br />
its roots. So will Udon Thani<br />
become a regional hub?<br />

“Since blue represents Friday, the birthday of Her<br />
Majesty Queen Sirikit, the desserts are inspired by<br />
the colour blue,” says the chef. Every menu, from<br />
Thai Pudding with Water Chestnuts, Coconut Cheese<br />
Tartlet to Trio Angel decorated wtith edible ‘Mom’<br />
engravings, are made of fresh and organic ingredients<br />
from the Doi Kham Royal Project.<br />

ศิลปาชีพ สวนจิตรลดาขึ้นในปีพ.ศ. 2521 (ปัจจุบันคือสถาบัน<br />
สิริกิติ์) เพื่อพระราชทานพระราชวโรกาสให้สมาชิกครอบครัว<br />
ชาวนาชาวไร่ที่ยากจนมาฝึกอบรมงานศิลปาชีพแขนงต่างๆ<br />
เพื่อเพิ่มรายได้และสืบสานงานศิลปะชั้นสูงของไทยไปพร้อมๆ กัน<br />
ด้วยวิธีนี้ ชาวบ้านจึงมีรายได้เพิ่มขึ้น ในขณะที่ศิลปะไทยเอง<br />

Creating something that can withstand the test of<br />
time requires external support, and without the<br />
SUPPORT FOUNDATION of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit<br />
of Thailand, Thailand’s future generations would<br />
never have a chance to appreciate the country’s<br />
magnificent traditional arts and crafts. “I am very<br />
proud of our people. The Thais are natural artists,<br />
no matter who they are or where they live, whether<br />
they are farmers or professionals. Thais are also<br />
sensitive people with an artistic talent that enables<br />
them to swiftly absorb and develop creative skills,”<br />
said Her Majesty the Queen. This conviction gave<br />
birth to the SUPPORT Foundation of Her Majesty<br />
Queen Sirikit of Thailand (now Queen Sirikit Institute)<br />
in 1976. The SUPPORT Training Center was founded<br />
to provide opportunities for members of impoverished<br />
farm families, giving them the opportunity to create<br />
various kinds of traditional Thai Artworks. In this way,<br />
they are able to supplement their income while<br />
preserving cultural Thai Arts.<br />
