I wish to be a bone

marrow donation

Jack, 15

bone marrow

If a total stranger saved your life, what would you do in return? And if anonymous

donors helped make it possible for you to have your one true wish, how would

you make the most of that opportunity? For 15-year-old Jack, the answer to both

questions was captured in one video call for help. Saved by a bone marrow donation

from a stranger on the opposite side of the world, Jack wanted to record a public

service announcement asking people to become bone marrow donors. That was his

wish. He told us out of every 430 registered donors, only one goes on to donate. And

for people like him with Asian heritage, it can be even harder to find a match.

Up until August 2016, Jack lived a typical life. And then everything changed. Within

months of discovering a problem with his bone marrow, he’d had a port inserted into

his chest, started chemotherapy, endured multiple blood transfusions, received a lifesaving

bone marrow donation, spent Christmas in the hospital and lost his hair. Within

a year of his diagnosis, he had already made up his mind to use his wish to help others.

Now you can help him achieve his ultimate wish: to get more people to register to be

bone marrow donors or sign up yourself!

Saturday, May 19th, 2:00-9:30pm

Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards, Windsor

Sonoma-Cutrer’s stunning vineyard and croquet courts are the backdrop for the heartwarming

stories of wonder, inspiration, delight and rejuvenation that a wish brings. Small bites and pours

from wine country’s top establishments will bring big rewards to brave children around the Bay Area.

Recently, we unveiled Jack’s PSA to a group of his friends, neighbors and family at

his local theater. Afterward, Jack’s mom, Deborah, wrote to say, “Jack was, and is, so

happy. When we left he said his face was sore from smiling so much. You have given

Jack a gift that will last a lifetime - a deep sense of pride and the feeling that after a

pretty lousy year, he was able to do something positive by helping others get the gift

that he was so fortunate to get.”

We can do so much for other brave children because of you. Thank you.
