THE FINEST architecture in
Canterbury Architecture Awards
last week and three winners came
from the city’s west.
The awards were part of the
peer-reviewed New Zealand
Architecture Awards Programme
run by the NZ Institute of Architects.
There were 34 winners, from
seven categories chosen by a jury
of five architects.
Construction company donates ambulance to St John
A NEW ambulance with
improved interior layout has
been donated to St John by
Generation Homes.
The new Gen 3 ambulance is
the latest model in the St John
fleet which has a layout to allow
ambulance officers to work more
efficiently and comfortably when
treating patients.
Named after Generations
Homes, the ambulance was
gifted in a dedication ceremony
recently and will be stationed
where needed in Canterbury.
St John relies on the support
of individuals and businesses for
High School hall was chosen in
the education category.
The jury said the hall was a
“clever insertion of a contemporary
building within the traditional
school fabric that has given
Christchurch Boys’ High School a
new heart.”
Also a winner in the education
category was the new Canterbury
University College of Engineering
building. The awards jury said
its atrium’s trussed ceiling was a
“clear and appropriate expression
funding to provide it’s vital community
service.
Generation Homes Christchurch
has prioritised giving to St
John since its beginning with
a long-term goal to donate an
ambulance.
The company has donated
for almost five years and is approaching
$100,000 in donations
to St John.
South Island fundraising and
marketing manager for St John
Debbie Pipson said the ambulance
is proof of the impact a single
business can have on keeping
their community healthy.
of structural engineering.”
Te Manawa Atawhai
Catherine McAuley Centre at
Villa Maria College was recognised
in the public architecture
category.
“The building’s pleated corten
cladding references the memory
of Catherine McAuley and her
protective shawl and provides an
exterior that changes in colour
and depth, giving a strong sculptural
presence to the building,”
the awards jury said.
“By donating lifesaving equipment,
Generation Homes is helping
ensure people receive highest
quality care when needed most.”
