THE PRIMARY SCENE I sometimes visit the grade1-3 learners in the quad area during their breaks and time after time I am pleasantly surprised by their sincerity and friendliness. Cheerful the little ones will come running to say hallo or just to spoil me with a hug. And I experience it… our Roodies are happy learners! The term was filled with activities and had many highlights. We think of the Roodie learners that excelled at the Pretoria Eisteddfod (see article under culture). Then there was the class music evening where learners blew us away with their musical talents. Young orators surprised us with their convincing abilities and tongue-in-the-cheek sayings. We end this term with an exam which has been studied hard for. Thank you to every coach, player and parent for a season’s commitment towards the netball and rugby activities. This also includes the mini-netball and “bulletjie rugby”. We are super proud of our u11 and u13 rugby teams who were crowned winners of their leagues! Thank you to the cross country coaches and athletes for their hard work this term as well. Congratulations to Armand Vivier and Mr Glen Attwell who both received North Gauteng colours and qualified for the inter-provincial meeting at Zeerust. Congratulations to teachers Sanet Myburgh and Janique Smuts and their junior choir on their selection to take part in the Tshwane Youth Arts Festival during August. Please ensure that all the items of your child’s school uniform are clearly marked. This will assist in ensuring that the learners receive back their lost clothing. Please also read Mr Niemand’s paragraph regarding our “lost and found”. In conclusion I would like to emphasise the importance of school attendance. Please do not keep your child home unnecessarily and communicate absenteeism with the register educator. Appointments need to be scheduled after school hours.
