An Orrell St James
girls’ rugby team
has been selected
for the Lancashire
hub for England
training.
Known as the England
talent pathway, girls will
start to train to hopefully
one day put on an
England kit.
Sporting triumph
It will be four weeks of
training sessions in St
Helens with other clubs
from the North West followed by a festival day on
Orrell St James under 16s
Saturday, July 21 in Leeds – with a full England kit
given to them – against the Yorkshire side.
Rachel Brannigan, spokesperson for the under 16s
said: “The girls are extremely proud. Girls’ rugby
is growing and developing at a huge rate and it’s
amazing to be a part of it.
“These girls are truly passionate about rugby, they
live and breathe it. They’ve only been together
since January when the u16s started with nine girls,
and we now have 19.
The team going to the England hub are: Steph Riley,
Alix Stanley, Olivia King, Bethany Heyes, Charlie
Mirrelson, Megan Bragg, Nadia Yates, Lauren
Gilham, and Niamh Brannigan.
Rachel added: “We’re always recruiting more girls.

open age is in its infancy, nine of our u16s will move
up to it at the end of the season as the u14s move
up.”
