Whether you are hosting family and friends, or just enjoying some you-time, being able to utilise your outdoor space with shade from the harsh sun or shelter from inclement weather is the dream lifestyle. The Bowranda patio roof is the ultimate solution to your needs, providing you comfort and protection through all four seasons. It is a permanent outdoor space that provides shelter from the elements, offering a desirable compromise for those who want to be outside the four walls of their house whilst avoiding exposure to spoiling weather extremities. Tailored to the needs of New Zealanders, Bowranda’s ingeniously designed roof incorporates a specialised membrane that eliminates 99 per cent of UV rays, whilst still preserving ambient light. This provides you protection from harmful rays without compromising the feel of a natural sun-lit area, and unlike other shade composites, it will not unduly darken the adjacent interior. The Bowranda is not just a sun-shade; it protects from all elements, making it a true stand-out from other forms of outdoor shading. With the ability to simply add roller blinds in sunscreen mesh or clear PVC, homeowners are protected from sun, wind and rain from any direction. Constructed of powder-coated aluminium and marine grade stainless steel fixings, the structural design of Bowranda was developed over a 5-year period to provide the full confidence and integrity of a 10- year guarantee. The intentional square profile of the roof line and vertical posts ensures aesthetic conformity with New Zealand’s residential architecture. The Bowranda patio roof is centrally manufactured by Unique Outdoors to the exact specifications and dimensions required to meet any customer’s outdoor aspirations. Here’s what the Brohm family had to say about their Bowranda. “We have had a Bowranda added to our home with door and window screens as well, all installed by Shane and his team. This business has been excellent to deal with. The Bowranda was installed by the date promised and we are very pleased with the results. We would definitely recommend this business and the products they supply. Great service.” - A & B Brohm, Blenheim For more information, phone 0800 26 26 20, or visit bowranda.co.nz to browse the photo gallery and view some testimonials from Bowranda’s many happy owners. [Edition datE] SELWYN TIMES Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Wednesday June 20 2018 31 5 HOME PROFESSIONALS Cost effective, efficient heating solutions By now, you have switched on the heaters, or fired up the log burner. It’s never too late, however, to consider new, possibly more cost effective forms of heating your home. If you are still huddling around a fan heater, or an unflued gas heater, then perhaps it really is time to consider other options. A warm, dry home is important when it comes to health and comfort. Insulation plays an important role in keeping heat in and is relatively easy to add to or upgrade in most homes. When it comes to heating, there are many options. Modern wood burners are very efficient and can be inexpensive to run, especially with the availability of a cheap or even free wood supply. Pellet fires are generally more efficient than log burners, pellet supplies are plentiful, and most quality models use a battery back-up so they are not dependent on electricity to get started. Pellet and log fires, however, must comply with air quality regulations. There is information about this at www.mfe.govt.nz Heat pumps are probably the most common form of home heating. They are economical and effective, especially ducted heat pump systems which heat the whole house. Both these systems can be installed in most houses easily, but they are dependent on electricity. It may be an advangate to have a generator or a backup heating source in the event of a power outage. Gas heating is also popular and convenient. Unflued and portable gas heaters are not recommended as they emit moisture and pollutants which can be unsafe. Flued gas heaters heat fast and are relatively inexpensive to run. They come in a wide range of designs. Suppliers such as Simply Heat (www.simplyheat.co.nz) will discuss with you the best options. Gas prices can vary widely. Kiwigas (www. kiwigas.co.nz) is a local supplier with great service and competitive prices. Infrared heating is a relatively new technology. Infrared panels emit radiant heat, which results in a more evenly heated space. Fast heating, infrared panels can be mounted on any flat surface, walls or even ceilings to maximise space. They are unobtrusive, and can be painted to suit or blend with décor, or printed with artwork or a photo to make them even more inconspicuous (www.hometech.co.nz). Even in winter it is not too late to reconsider inefficient heating options. These heating solutions should be installed by qualified professionals, and existing heating systems should be checked and maintained regularly.
