Aaron Grcevic will be a
senior at Lockport Township
this fall and will be a guard
on the basketball team this
coming winter.
The team recently went
on a weekend trip to
Grand Valley State University
and did well in
the games there. What
were your impressions
of that trip?
It was awesome. It was
a great time and a lot of
fun playing teams at a high
level. We did well there
against a lot of good competition.
Coach Brett Hespell
used that trip to help
establish the team
“pillars” — values the
team tries to live by
during the season. How
important is that?
It’s extremely important.
We’re trying to not only set
pillars for this season, but
also for years to come. We
want the younger players
to look up at us and know
what these are for years to
come.
Coming off a 7-18 record
last season, what
does the team have to
do to get better for this
coming winter?
Our defense has got to get
better. I think offensively we
will be there, but defensively
we have to work hard all
summer.
When did you start
playing basketball?
I started playing in the
first or second grade at
the Homer Athletic Club.
Then, I played at Oak Prairie
in grade school. I might
have had a little push from
my dad, but I mostly just
tried it, liked it and stuck
with it.
Do you play any other
sports?
I played baseball my
freshman and sophomore
year, but not this past year. I
just got tired of baseball, it’s
too slow. I just wanted to focus
on basketball.
What is it about the
game of basketball that
makes it the sport for
you?
I like that it’s fast-paced.
I’m small (5-foot-5), I’m a
guard and I like to move at
a fast pace. I love basketball
and everything about it.
Your two sisters are
also athletes at Lockport
and you’re all
triplets. What’s it like
to be a triplet?
It’s unique. But it’s fun
and we all get along well.
What I like most about it is
that we all get to grow up
together.
What have you learned
from coach, Brett Hespell?
He’s taught me a lot, especially
a lot about character.

He’s put me in position to be
a leader, and he’s taught me
how to be a person, as well
as a basketball player.
Do you plan to play
basketball in college?
As of right now, no. But if
something comes up, I might
change my mind. I just want
to go enjoy my college experience.
I’m undecided on a
college, but I probably want
to stay near home, in the
Midwest. I plan to major in
business or finance.
What’s the best thing
about being an athlete
at Lockport?
We have great facilities,
coaches, everything. But the
best thing is the rich history.
It’s just neat to see a lot of
people and alumni come
back to Lockport just to
watch games.
