Some people think Ozzie<br />

Guillen is funny and entertaining.<br />

Some think he is unfiltered,<br />

profane, speaks his<br />

mind a little too much and<br />

has a big mouth.<br />

He once told an umpire<br />

“You’re not even a pimple<br />

on your daddy’s [rear end]”<br />

and said opposing manager<br />

of Buck Showalter “I was<br />

better than him, I have more<br />

money than him and I’m better<br />

looking than him.” Guillen<br />

said of himself, “I’m the<br />

Charlie Sheen of baseball,<br />

without the drugs and a prostitute.”<br />

Yep, as unfiltered as a<br />

Camel cigarette and sometimes<br />

just as toxic. He is a lot<br />

of things to a lot of people.<br />

But not many people<br />

would associate him with<br />

being a friend to the Disabled<br />

Patriot cause.<br />

The controversial former<br />

White Sox player and manager,<br />

who won a World Series<br />

title as a skipper in 2005,<br />

will be in Orland Park as a<br />

special guest for the 14th<br />

Disabled Patriot Fund’s annual<br />

golf outing on Wednesday,<br />

June 27, at Silver Lake<br />

Country Club. Organizers<br />

are still looking for golfers<br />

and online registration is at<br />

disabledpatriotfund.org.<br />

Adam Russell, a member<br />

or the Orland Park/Tinley<br />

Park-based Disabled Patriot<br />

Fund’s board of directors,<br />

was a pitcher for the White<br />

Sox in 2008 and said Guillen<br />

is a perfect guest celebrity<br />

for the event.<br />

“Ozzie was my favorite<br />

manager to play for,” Russell<br />

said. “He wasn’t a man<br />

of many rules. He did, however,<br />

have one rule that resonated<br />

with me throughout<br />

the rest of my career that I<br />

really appreciated: ‘Everyone<br />

is out on the field standing<br />

at attention for [the national<br />

anthem].’<br />

“Ozzie loves the opportunities<br />

that our country presents<br />

and respects the men<br />

and women who fight for<br />

those rights. Every time we<br />

honored soldiers before a<br />

game, Ozzie would always<br />

make a point to go over and<br />

shake their hand and thank<br />

them for their service. I<br />

couldn’t think of a better<br />

champion for our cause at<br />

the Disabled Patriot Fund<br />

than Ozzie Guillen and look<br />

forward to [a] great day for a<br />

great cause.”<br />

DPF officials say the organization,<br />

which started the<br />

year the Sox won the World<br />

Series (2005), has raised<br />

more than $3.5 million to<br />

help approximately 350 injured<br />

veterans.<br />
