Schnell Fest at COTA: Spring 2018 HPDE By

Schnell Fest is a blast and has consistently brought

a smile to my face, provided great experiences,

and provided me with great racing memories.

This was my third PCA DE at COTA, and at the

conclusion of each event I’m already planning and

thinking about returning to this magnificent track.

The smooth, fast turns, long straights, and

technical sections test your skills as a driver and

bring out the very best in your Porsche. Simply

an amazing experience.

The facility is first-rate, and we had easy access to the

garage spaces, beautiful air conditioned rooms, driver’s

lounge, and ample paddock space. We even had the

conveniences of an onsite tire service, as well as access to

retail performance parts and accessories.

I brought my family out to Schnell Fest. It’s a

comfortable space for them and a great way for them to

get a taste of my hobby, and even experience the track for

themselves during the charity parade laps.

It was a real treat to be able to park alongside strangers

and quickly make new friends as well as reconnect with

friends from past events. I loved talking with other

passionate enthusiasts (some traveling from other states),

hearing their personal stories and comparing lap times.

It was such a wonderful feeling of community and

camaraderie - everyone was so friendly and willing to help

and offer advice (especially to new drivers like myself).

Our morning driver safety meetings were informative

and efficient. Our session schedule was well-executed.

Driving attendees showed true sportsmanship on the track

yet were competitive and spirited. Trains were almost

nonexistent (which was a relief) allowing for a consistent

pace for me to grow and improve my driving. In addition

the instructed class time made for a terrific value.

Three months ago when I was attending my first DE,

I was initially concerned because I didn’t know if I was

ready for an unrestricted track pace. But after proper

instruction and actively listening to my instructors, I was

soon able to begin testing the limits of my car and driving

it how it was intended to be driven. It felt awesome to get

these results!

Our PCA instructors are really special. They constantly

strive to improve your driving skills while emphasizing

safety. Dedicated corner workers help keep us safe. The

run groups move along like a fine Swiss watch, thanks to

the team of people working behind the scenes - it’s a real

production.

This past Schnell Fest was a scorcher, with temperatures

pushing the mercury above 100 degrees, but thanks to

our organizers, we were well-hydrated with endless ice

cold water and tasty popsicles that they provided. My car

didn’t seem to notice a difference - I shaved several seconds

off of my personal best lap time and I was promoted to

the next run group. To top it all off they hosted a pizza

and beer social hour at the end of the day.

If you have not yet attended Schnell Fest, you are in

for a real treat - this multi-region event keeps attendees

coming back and is so well-run.

I’ve checked COTA off of my bucket list and I’m

looking forward to the next exhilarating Schnell Fest

this fall!
