SPROCKETS: No Summer Slowdown

By David Robertson, Region President

There is no doubt that summer has arrived. With

temps in the triple digits, you may be tempted to

hunker down in the cool confines of your home.

Don’t be tempted -- get out and take a drive!

Have you seen those videos of Porsche testing

new models out in Death Valley? They don’t

seem to be affected and North Texas is like a Fall

weather in comparison

You may think that club events slow down in these

summer months, but in July there is something going on

every week. In fact, I will be driving up to the Porsche

Parade this month to do much more driving, where I

will I arrive with hundreds of other PCA members from

all over North America. This year’s Parade is relatively

close to home in Missouri, so we can drive up in our

911 without facing the “shame” of attending in a rental

car as we did last year. Shipping is not really an option

with my daily driver, and we just didn’t have the time

to drive to Spokane last year, although most people did

and tell me that the journey to Spokane was as much

fun as Parade itself. I must say that there is a bit of

an element missing when you attend Porsche Parade

without a Porsche! I will let you know how it all goes

next month, but I am 100% sure that Parade is going

to be a lot of fun, and we may have a record attendance

of Maverick Region members this year!

Along with Parade this month there are a couple

of lunches, a Mavs and Mochas featuring the

Porsche Cayenne, an Autocross, a happy hour and

dinner, Motoring Mavs at Mayos, and a Tech Session

about tires. If there is a rare weekend when an event is

not planned, there is always an impromptu get-together

organized by someone through one of our social

media pages.

The Maverick board members are always mindful

of overlapping events or scheduling at certain times.

However, sometimes due to availability of venues, or

more likely, just not having enough days in the month,

scheduling conflicts arise. We do everything possible

to accommodate everyone, but if someday you have to

choose between two events that you want to attend,

just know that our amazing board members are

always coming up with additional options and ways to

accommodate all of our members. Our events are some

of the best-attended of any region in the country, and in

my opinion, having more choices is better than having

fewer choices!

MAV OF THE MONTH: Landon Stogner

Landon Stogner recently celebrated his two-year

anniversary with PCA in June. After purchasing his

2010 Porsche 911 Cabriolet, he not only began

attending many Maverick events, but quickly stepped

up to volunteer

with a wide range

of club tasks,

such as parking

members for social

events and sharing

photos and articles

for Slipstream.

You’ll often see

Landon and his

two sons, Corbin

and Brady, working

as a team to

volunteer at events.

Most recently,

Landon has taken

on the task of

Volunteer Chair

for the Region and has some great ideas for engaging

club members. Thank you Landon, we look forward to

seeing what you have in store for us!
