Medical app
to benefit
patients
A LITTLE bit like Snapchat and
a little bit like mobile banking
– doctors have a new way to
communicate.
It’s called Celo, a safe-snapping
app that allows medical staff to
confer or safely share photos so that
they can obtain a second opinion
when they are in a hurry.
A Canterbury District Health
Board report said: “Celo behaves
more like a mobile banking app,
where nothing is stored on the
device and nobody can access information
without the user’s unique
PIN code.”
Christchurch Hospital paediatrician
John Garrett said the app is
invaluable for his work
“I go to the Chatham Islands
twice a year to see paediatric patients
over there. One of my patients
was also a patient in the plastic
surgery service here.”
The patient’s mother mentioned
they were planning a trip to
Christchurch, but instead Dr Garrett
was able to take a picture of the
scar, send it straight to the plastic
surgeon.
The surgeon was able to communicate
back that the scar looked fine
and a trip was not necessary.

LAWYERS HAVE met with
community board members
involved in making a decision
over the Hornby mega facility
behind closed doors.
Two lawyers acting for the city
council spoke with Halswell-
Hornby-Riccarton Community
Board members at their fortnightly
meeting on Tuesday.
They were told what they can
and can’t do when they meet on
July 6 to decide whether they
will adopt a city council hearings
panel recommendation on
the future of Denton Park.
The hearings panel recommended
that Denton Park not
be the site of the $35.7 million
facility which has divided the
Hornby community for the past
few years.
The Star, and members of the
public who were at Tuesday’s
meeting, had to leave while the
lawyers and community board
members talked in what was
a publicly excluded part of the
meeting.
The Star has learnt the lawyers
wanted to make sure community
board members do not exceed

CATTLE disease mycoplasma
bovis could affect major A&P
shows this season.
The Canterbury A&P Association,
which runs the New
Zealand Agricultural Show,
will meet this week to discuss
if it should continue running
cattle classes in this year’s programme.
It comes as the Ellesmere
A&P Show in Leeston, in
October, has dropped cattle to
prevent the risk of spreading
mycoplasma bovis any further.
The association intends to
continue running its cattle
section but has invited stud
breeders to meet to get feedback
before confirming its plans to
keep cattle in the show.

their available powers. They will
have three options on the day –
the board could either accept the
hearings panel recommendation,
refer it back to the panel or
it can decide not to accept the
panel’s advice, a source said.
Discussions with lawyers were
“fairly common” prior to hearing
panel decisions and one of
the lawyers will be present at the
July meeting, the source said.
The meeting will be held at Te
Hapua: Halswell Centre.
The city council received
more than 1450 submissions
on the reclassification of the
park, surpassing the number
of submissions it received for
the reinstatement of the Christ
Church Cathedral.
Question mark over cattle at agricultural show
at this stage it is still looking at
running the cattle competition.
In March, the Government
signed off culling thousands of
cows in a bid to eradicate the
disease. The meeting is scheduled
for 4pm, Wednesday, at the
Hornby Working Men’s Club.
The New Zealand Agricultural
Show 2018 will be held
from November 14 to 16.
