Merle Boddy Centre
People say there is always a sting in the tail, well
we can prove there is a roar with Swaffham Lions.
We were presented with a cheque for a £1000 from
some of the nicest Lions ever; they roar well, but are
pussy cats at heart. Their understanding of what our
centre is all about, is not only heart warming, but
also very humbling. They support us with not only
the wonderful donations, but also their time and
energy. We are very proud to be a charity in their
extended pride.
As a care provider we are always happy to pass
information on to the next generation who will be
working with people living with dementia. We are
proud to be linked with Norwich City College. The
college have given us an award for our support of
their students whilst at the Merle Boddy day service.
It was a very nice surprise. I would like to thank all
my staff for embracing everything I throw at them;
new students, fundraising and much more. You girls
are brilliant.
Singing and sunshine: what a wonderful combination!
We are so lucky to have our small garden and try
very hard to make the best of the nice weather. As
I sit here in the office I can hear all the clients and
staff singing their hearts out in the garden. There is
no better sound than that of people enjoying time
together. Hopefully the singing also entertained the
people in the units which are situated behind the
centre, or at least lifted their spirits as it did mine.
Everyday is a good day, but today seems even better.
For the first time we have had a handbag sale at the
centre and it wont be the last. Thank you ladies for
making it such a success with your buying power; we
made a total of £200. It was great to have so many
people in the day service that we are so proud of. We
showed off all our bright and refurbished rooms and
toilets. Please keep looking out for all our events, we
have posters in lots of places around town.
A gift of money is always so nice to receive, but when
you know it comes with heart felt appreciation for a
service you give it makes it all the more special. We
received a cheque for £150 from these wonderful
hard working ladies of the Swaffham Lionesses.

What is better on a lovely sunny day than to have tea
and cake with friends? Well, that is what happened
on the 3rd June at the centre. The theme was
vintage, with delicate sandwiches, cream scones,
and scrummy cakes, all washed down with pots of
tea served on vintage
crockery. It all made for a
lovely afternoon. There
were a couple of table
games which everyone
seem to enjoy and to
finish off everyone had
ice cream to end a really
perfect day. We raised
a wonderful £309.
Thank yous are many;
to everyone who came,
Tescos for providing the
food and to the people
who made such lovely cakes and scones and finally,
my staff and volunteers who gave up their Sunday to
help with such a successful fundraising event. In the

and two of our lovely guests enjoying the sunshine,
also a mouth watering sample of the great food.
We’re already sorting out next year’s tea as people
wanted to book for 2019.
