NASARAWA STATE: SOCIO-POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC REVIEW<br />
Nasarawa was created on 1 October 1996 by the Abacha government from the former Plateau State. The State has three National<br />
Senatorial Districts (South, North and West) and consists of thirteen (13) Local Government Areas, Karu, Keffie, Akwanga, Kokona,<br />
Toto, Nasarawa, Nasarawa Egon, Wamba, Awe, Doma, Keana, Lafia and Obi (with a population of 1,869,377 according to the 2006<br />
population figures). Its capital is Lafia. It covers an area of about 27,117 km 2 (10,470 sq mi).<br />
Economy: Nasarawa State has agriculture as the mainstay of its economy with the production of varieties of cash crops throughout<br />
the year. It also contains various minerals such as salt, barite, and bauxite, which are mostly mined by artisanal miners.<br />
The state has a College of Education in Akwanga, College of Agriculture in Lafia, Nasarawa State Polytechnic in Lafia, Nasarawa<br />
State University in Keffi, a newly established Federal University of Lafia, and other vocational training schools.<br />
Nasarawa State is home to the Farin Ruwa Falls in Wamba Local Government area of the state. Farin Ruwa falls is reputed to be one<br />
of the highest falls in Africa.<br />
There is also the Salt Village in Keana Local Government Area of the State. It produces naturally iodized salt from the lake located<br />
near it. The town is also one of the cradles of Alago civilization, one of the major ethnic groups in the state.<br />

BACKGROUND<br />
Context<br />
The Nasarawa Entrepreneurs Summit was established to support the growth of small local businesses,<br />
foster new jobs and economic growth for Nasarawa State.<br />
Driving by the need to draw attention to the opportunities in Nasarawa State, and the emergence of<br />
new entrepreneurs to push for economic development on the idea that the competition for business<br />
investment and for highly ambitious entrepreneurs and talent has never been as high as it is today.<br />
We need to identify and align our resources to develop tangible, highly valuable and profitable<br />
opportunities that will attract investment from local businesses, communities, ambitious new<br />
entrepreneurs and multinational firms.<br />
In order to ensure this takes, a series of Summits around the State will be organized, between May 22 nd<br />
and 23 rd 2018, in partnership with Nasarawa State Government, Taal Conference Hotel departments.

1. Identify barriers and challenges for Entrepreneurs to inform government policy and<br />
programs.<br />
2. Seek ways to increase youth participation in entrepreneurship and the workforce.<br />
3. Create opportunities for Entrepreneurs to learn things like effective leadership<br />
communication skills, how to grow a business, the power of networking, and how<br />
to best launch a new product.<br />
4. Identify opportunities for new investments that will position the State as a viable<br />
and attractive business destination able to contribute to the growth of different<br />
sectors.

of Industry etc.)<br />
• Public Private Partnerships (PPP) for the immediate development of Vocational Training Institutes for Small and<br />
Medium Scale Industries (solid mineral and Cultural museums; improvements of cultural and heritage sites, with secure<br />
access roads leading to them, plus standard lodgings for tourists to improve tourism industry receipts).<br />
• Pursuit of New Legislations and Policy Revaluation to bring about change in economic dynamics for entrepreneurs in<br />
all sectors of the State’s economy for improved small business contribution to the State’s internally generated revenues<br />
(IGR) and GDP.<br />
• Institution of Executive Council on Small Scale Business Enterprise.<br />
Mid Term: 3-5 years<br />
• Ensure alternative funding options for Small Enterprises such as the Capital Market significant and alternative funding<br />
opportunity for building sustainable businesses in the different sectors through listing on the Nigeria Stock Exchange.<br />
• Improvement in Internal Security infrastructure and policing.<br />
Long Term: 4-6 years<br />
• Work with Government towards the systematic building of infrastructures and new policy formulation that help to create<br />
a Business Friendly environment for local and foreign investment flow that will lead to job creation and prosperity for all.<br />
• To improve Nasarawa State’s image, and competitiveness as a Tourism and Business Destination.

Sponsors’ responsibilities: It is the responsibility of sponsors to provide the materials listed in the<br />
package, once commitment has been made. The companies which get the most out of their<br />
sponsorship are those who provide any required materials in a timely manner.<br />
•Sponsor agreements: Once your preferred sponsorship package has been negotiated, we, will<br />
prepare a Sponsor Agreement for your signature. The Agreement is to be signed and returned<br />
within the timeframe specified.<br />
