Another month and another new issue of the <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Reggae</strong> <strong>Charts</strong> Magazine. I’d like to welcome<br />
you to an, admittedly slim, new issue of our chart magazine with the latest news on what’s hot in<br />
the world of reggae. Since all people involved in the magazine have been extremely busy – you<br />
can see, for example, the new address on the imprint – we’ve decided to release a rather slim edition<br />
of the magazine rather than to delay the release even further.<br />
As our “Artist of the Month”, we feature Romain Virgo this time. His new album “Lovesick” made<br />
it directly to number three on last month’s <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Reggae</strong> <strong>Charts</strong> and climbed to number two this<br />
month. He is an artist who has released only high-quality music ever since winning of the Digicel<br />
Rising Stars competition in 2007. All good reasons to give him a feature spot in this month’s magazine.<br />
When looking at the charts in total, we can find a lot of new entries. Most dominating this month is<br />
Kabaka Pyramid who recently released his new album “Kontraband” on Ghetto Youths International<br />
and went straight to the peak position on the album charts. Also, the last three upfront singles<br />
of the album manifest themselves in the single charts. As the charts suggest in the name, they are<br />
not just “global” when it comes to the voters – who have been coming from 25 different countries<br />
over the past three months – but also in the releases. From Italy we can find releases from Mellow<br />
Mood and Alborosie, from Spain there is Dactah Chando, from Benin and France you can find Joe<br />
Pilgrim & the Ligerians; Dubmatix from Canada remixes Jamaican drum and bass legends Sly &<br />
Robbie and you can find artists like Sting, Charlie P, and Alpheus representing the UK. Finally, there<br />
is the truly international production of the Havana meets Kingston project that combines artists<br />
from Jamaica, Cuba, and Australia. But of course, all these international names don’t mean that<br />
Jamaican artists are not relevant on the charts. You can as well find all the big Jamaican names<br />
on the charts that you would expect these days like Chronixx, Protoje, Capleton, Damian Marley,<br />
Ziggy Marley, Beres Hammond, Tarrus Riley, Raging Fyah, Dre Island, I-Octane, Shaggy, Etana, and<br />
many others.<br />
Now, we wish you an interesting study of the charts and look forward to a bigger issue again next<br />
month.<br />

Romain Virgo, born in 1990, was the youngest winner of<br />
the Digicel Rising Stars competition in Jamaica in 2007<br />
and has been building on his career ever since.<br />
So, it is no surprise that his new album “Lovesick” topped<br />
the Billboard charts at number one and also made<br />
it to number two on this month’s <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Reggae</strong> <strong>Charts</strong>.<br />
This certainly makes him deserving of our „Artist of the<br />
Month“ honor.<br />
