are not the only reasons why we love<br />
Michelle Visage. She is a humble as<br />
she is famous, as approachable as she<br />
is worshipped and as real as she is<br />
glamorous. In an era when titles are<br />
passed around like hotcakes, Michelle<br />
has earned hers as an ICON, not only<br />
<strong>in</strong> the LGBTQ community but far<br />
beyond.<br />
You graciously accepted my request <strong>to</strong><br />
be a Judge for the 2 nd Annual WeHo<br />
GoGo Fest <strong>in</strong> 2012 and you were a<br />
HIT, do you remember that?<br />
I AM NOT THAT OLD!<br />
Modesty aside, how would you<br />
describe yourself?<br />
An honest, <strong>to</strong>ugh, street smart, wise<br />
ass with a marshmallow fill<strong>in</strong>g who<br />
wants everyone <strong>to</strong> get along.<br />
What k<strong>in</strong>d of connection do you have<br />
<strong>to</strong> West Hollywood and what do you<br />
like about it?<br />
WeHo is by FAR one of my favorite<br />
places <strong>in</strong> LA proper and if I didn’t<br />
have <strong>to</strong> worry about schools I would<br />
be there <strong>in</strong> a heartbeat! When my girls<br />
leave for college <strong>in</strong> the next 4 years<br />
we will be mov<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>to</strong> WeHo most<br />
likely. Walk<strong>in</strong>g down Santa Monica<br />
Blvd feels like home <strong>to</strong> me. It is free, it<br />
is <strong>gay</strong>, it is love, it is HOME.<br />
With great fame and all that love you,<br />
can you still go <strong>in</strong> public without<br />
be<strong>in</strong>g noticed?<br />
Part of this biz is be<strong>in</strong>g noticed. The<br />
great th<strong>in</strong>g about me is a lot of people<br />
don’t know what I look like out<br />
of drags and also, unless I am <strong>in</strong> the<br />
<strong>gay</strong>borhood it’s now and aga<strong>in</strong>, but <strong>in</strong><br />
an LGBT sett<strong>in</strong>g its all of the time and<br />
I WOULDN’T HAVE IT ANY OTHER<br />
WAY! I am who I am because of THIS<br />
COMMUNITY<br />

MAKING ART - PRINTMAK-<br />
ING, WOODCUT AND LINO-<br />
CUT<br />
Pr<strong>in</strong>tmak<strong>in</strong>g is one of the oldest of reproduction<br />
arts. The materials and <strong>to</strong>ols<br />
used for woodcuts and l<strong>in</strong>ocuts are basic<br />
and relatively <strong>in</strong>expensive. The woodblock<br />
pr<strong>in</strong>t consists of a simple wood<br />
block of any soft wood/ p<strong>in</strong>e is readily<br />
available <strong>in</strong> any lumberyard. A piece of<br />
6 or 8 <strong>in</strong>ch p<strong>in</strong>e board cut <strong>in</strong> the desired<br />
length can be used for the plate or a piece<br />
of maple veneer cut <strong>to</strong> the size you want<br />
<strong>to</strong> make the pr<strong>in</strong>t. L<strong>in</strong>ocut block can be<br />
purchased pre-made from arts and crafts<br />
s<strong>to</strong>res. Locally, Michael’s and Aaron Bros<br />
carry l<strong>in</strong>ocut blocks. L<strong>in</strong>o cut refers <strong>to</strong><br />
a piece of flat l<strong>in</strong>oleum glued <strong>to</strong> a wood<br />
block. You may purchase flat l<strong>in</strong>oleum<br />
from floor<strong>in</strong>g outlets <strong>to</strong> make your own.<br />
look for the pla<strong>in</strong> commercial l<strong>in</strong>oleum<br />
with not <strong>to</strong> hard a surface that works best<br />
for l<strong>in</strong>o cutt<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
The <strong>to</strong>ols needed are either palm handled<br />
or cigar shaped handle knives from the<br />
V <strong>to</strong> the U shape blade with one as a flat<br />
blade for carv<strong>in</strong>g. A roller called a brayer<br />
for plac<strong>in</strong>g the paper on the block and<br />
creat<strong>in</strong>g the pr<strong>in</strong>t. Pr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>k of either<br />
oil or water base can be used. and a burnisher<br />
for which which a large serv<strong>in</strong>g<br />
spoon can be substituted.<br />

The first step is <strong>to</strong> make a draw<strong>in</strong>g. <strong>This</strong><br />
can be made directly on the surface of<br />
the wood or l<strong>in</strong>oleum block. Remember<br />
when creat<strong>in</strong>g the draw<strong>in</strong>g, the dark<br />
areas of the draw<strong>in</strong>g where you make<br />
l<strong>in</strong>es or dark shaded areas are what will<br />
be pr<strong>in</strong>ted. When the draw<strong>in</strong>g is on the<br />
block beg<strong>in</strong> cutt<strong>in</strong>g away the areas that<br />
are not dark. See example of male nude<br />
hold<strong>in</strong>g a ball. The white areas of the<br />
pr<strong>in</strong>t are cut out leav<strong>in</strong>g the black ares<br />
raised <strong>to</strong> accept the <strong>in</strong>k. The <strong>in</strong>k is put<br />
on a piece of glass or metal surface. With<br />
the brayer or roller roll the <strong>in</strong>k until it<br />
covers the roller of the brayer. Then roll<br />
the <strong>in</strong>k un<strong>to</strong> the cut block until all of the<br />
raised survace is covered. place a piece of<br />
pr<strong>in</strong>t paper or newspr<strong>in</strong>t for a trial pr<strong>in</strong>t,<br />
un<strong>to</strong> the <strong>in</strong>ked block. Us<strong>in</strong>g the brayer<br />
or large serv<strong>in</strong>g spoon press the back side<br />
of the paper on the blook by rubb<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />
circular motion until you have covered<br />
the complete surface of the block.<br />
The last action is <strong>to</strong> remove the paper<br />
and view your creation. If there is more<br />
carv<strong>in</strong>g needed this first trial pr<strong>in</strong>t will<br />
reveal where <strong>to</strong> carve more. If pr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />
black and you wish <strong>to</strong> add color, let the<br />
<strong>in</strong>ked pr<strong>in</strong>t dry thoroughly then add<br />
water color <strong>to</strong> the areas where you want<br />
color <strong>to</strong> emphasize. As an example look<br />
at the Japanese pr<strong>in</strong>t of the “Wave”, <strong>to</strong> see<br />
how the artist has added color. Enjoy the<br />
process of creat<strong>in</strong>g a woodcut or l<strong>in</strong>ocut<br />

Fabeyonce “Fuck Bullies”<br />
There are all types of people’s out here <strong>in</strong> this<br />
world, but there are so many who have nowhere<br />
<strong>to</strong> go.<br />
No one <strong>to</strong> turn <strong>to</strong>, we lose <strong>to</strong>o many precious<br />
lives due <strong>to</strong> bully<strong>in</strong>g and all it takes is for some of<br />
us <strong>to</strong> just pay attention. Everywhere we go there’s<br />
always gonna be these types of close m<strong>in</strong>ded,<br />
ignorant disgust<strong>in</strong>g be<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />
And we can’t change that but the ones that are<br />
affected by it we can try our best <strong>to</strong> help and be<br />
there for them.<br />
I remember be<strong>in</strong>g called a faggot and other<br />
names. Even when you’re made fun of for be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
fat, ugly, black, brown or anyth<strong>in</strong>g else someone<br />
might not like about you, it’s all bully<strong>in</strong>g. But <strong>in</strong><br />
this day and age, we need <strong>to</strong> look at the bigger<br />
picture. We need <strong>to</strong> make it s<strong>to</strong>p. When I was<br />
a young boy, I was picked on and I remember<br />
my mom say<strong>in</strong>g, “If you don’t kick their ass, I’m<br />
gonna kick their ass and their parents’ and then<br />
I’m gonna kick your ass”. At the time I was scared,<br />
but I knew she was only protect<strong>in</strong>g me.<br />
From that, I held my head up and never aga<strong>in</strong><br />
would I let anyone bully me. I needed that extra<br />
push from my mommy, but that’s just me. Not<br />
everyone knows how <strong>to</strong> handle these types of<br />
situations.<br />
I’m ask<strong>in</strong>g for all parents, brothers, sisters, aunts,<br />
uncles, friends, and everyone <strong>to</strong> pay attention<br />
<strong>to</strong> everyone around you. Ask them how are they<br />
do<strong>in</strong>g, give them a hug, be a friend that they<br />
need. And if someth<strong>in</strong>g is wrong please contact<br />
somebody else that can help don’t hold it <strong>in</strong><br />
this can be a life or death situation and we need<br />
everyone especially the younger ones <strong>to</strong> know<br />
that there is help there are places that can help.<br />

You have <strong>to</strong> learn <strong>to</strong> love yourself. Appreciate this<br />
life we have and love everybody around you, let<br />
them know that <strong>to</strong>o. It doesn’t have <strong>to</strong> feel weird,<br />
just give out free hugs even if they’re not ask<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Say, “Hello, how are you” or even a “You look<br />
nice <strong>to</strong>day”, this can change someone and you<br />
wouldn’t even know it.<br />
It’s the little th<strong>in</strong>gs that matter and make the<br />
biggest difference.<br />
It’s very sad <strong>to</strong> see this happen<strong>in</strong>g still <strong>in</strong> 2018<br />
and even more so happen<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> our community.<br />
<strong>This</strong> is what we need <strong>to</strong> work on <strong>to</strong> become a<br />
better people, better people that others want <strong>to</strong><br />
look up <strong>to</strong>o. Be the one that can help someone<br />
understand that they’re worth much more and<br />

out of 3 very dark years of suicidal<br />

say the least, so I want <strong>to</strong> start <strong>to</strong> get<br />
<strong>in</strong>volved with mental health charities<br />
for kids and teens as they are not visible<br />
enough. People brush it off <strong>to</strong>o<br />
easily and this pa<strong>in</strong> needs <strong>to</strong> be validated<br />
and these kids need <strong>to</strong> know<br />
that they are heard and that they<br />
matter.<br />

It just keeps gett<strong>in</strong>g worse. If you could imag<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
We all knew the President had no experience,<br />
was a bully and a blowhard. What we didn’t<br />
know was his attraction <strong>to</strong> dicta<strong>to</strong>rs, his out and<br />
out racism and that beyond no experience he has<br />
no respect for American values<br />
The <strong>week</strong> started with Public clamor over his<br />
policy of separation of children and parents<br />
who cross the border with no documentation.<br />
It ended with an executive order s<strong>to</strong>pp<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
forced separation and a promise <strong>to</strong> reunite the<br />
children, claim<strong>in</strong>g “we know where they all are”.<br />
Yet only 500 have been reunited <strong>to</strong> their parents<br />
In between we heard of kids be<strong>in</strong>g forced fed<br />
psychotropic drugs and Camp Pendle<strong>to</strong>n be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
ordered <strong>to</strong> prepare <strong>to</strong> house 47,000 migrants.<br />
Remember the <strong>in</strong>ternment of Japanese <strong>in</strong> WWII<br />
and the medical experiments the Nazis did on<br />
Jews, Gypsy’s and Gays.<br />
<strong>This</strong> man must go. He has antagonized everyone<br />
of our allies with his immigration tactics, his<br />
sky high tariff ’s and his cozy<strong>in</strong>g up <strong>to</strong> his new<br />
butt boy, Kim Jong Un. Now he is call<strong>in</strong>g for big<br />
tariffs on foreign made cars.<br />
Republican sena<strong>to</strong>r’s from farm states are<br />
even tell<strong>in</strong>g him how his actions are crippl<strong>in</strong>g<br />
American agriculture.<br />
His 18 months <strong>in</strong> office will take us decades<br />
<strong>to</strong> correct if ever. I am not sure how we make<br />
it another 2 1/2. One th<strong>in</strong>g is for certa<strong>in</strong>,<br />
EVERYONE MUST VOTE IN NOVEMBER<br />
and take back the Congress. One party rule<br />
should not mean capitulation <strong>to</strong> the Executive.<br />
I am <strong>in</strong> Italy this <strong>week</strong> with the Cathedral City<br />
High School Chamber Choir. They are <strong>to</strong>ur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the country and perform<strong>in</strong>g at St Peters Basilica<br />
and other places. We have <strong>to</strong>ured throughout<br />
Rome and head <strong>to</strong> Florence and Pisa next.<br />
These young people are amaz<strong>in</strong>g! They give me<br />
some hope for our future.<br />
They will give a free concert on their return.<br />
