GOASIAPLUS July 2018

Our July issue explores the Pearl of the Orient, Penang through David Loh's eyes in tribute for Georgetown World Heritage Day. Tracing back the past, we rediscover Old Klang Road as today's cultural and food center besides modern-day travel journalling (or 80s scrapbooking). Also, see our take on Char Kway Teow versus Pad Thai in our travel food corner.

Sihanoukville’s
SUN AND SEA
The Chinese identified Sihanoukville
as Shenzhen. But it is a metropolis
that boasts of more than just
commercial centres and a casino.
Sihanoukville is the only seaport
in Cambodia that is well-known for its
stunning white sandy beaches and a
collection of small islands.
There are beaches from the north
to the south of Sihanoukville. The
3 main recommended stretches are
Otres Beach, Ochheuteal Beach and
Serendipity Beach.
The Ochheuteal Beach is a
charming strip of beach with casuarina
trees, small huts selling cold drinks,
restaurants and it is a popular spot for
partying through the night.
Majority of the chalets on Otres
Beach are beachfront accommodations
that are cheap and no frills.
Once you have had enough of the
sun and sea, you can take to the town
for some good affordable food and
visit the central market for some local
merchandise shopping.
There are a selection of boutique
hotels and budget accommodations
where backpackers can chill out for a
couple of days before heading to their
onward journey.
