Stony in Bloom
Stony in Bloom has once again created beautiful
summer displays, particularly with the revamped Library
Bed which now looks stunning. It was filled with plants
bought through sponsorship with McCarthy and Stone.
The RHS rewarded the pupils of St Mary and St Giles
school with a large consignment of seedlings for
attaining Level 4 of the Campaign for School Gardening.
They are now planted and the children are waiting to
harvest the thriving lettuces.
SSIB had a successful Plant Sale at the York House
Coffee Morning, making £600 to keep the town looking
beautiful. The Town Crier let everyone know and
introduced the Bard, Sam and Isobel the Junior Bard.
Isobel had written fabulous poems to celebrate the
occasion and the SSIB 10 year anniversary.
The sun shone for the Bluebell Party at Bluebell Wood.
The Hobby Horse Nursery children enjoyed the
cupcakes and bluebells.
SSIB volunteers were busy during StonyLive! with a
childrens’ hanging basket workshop in Fullers Slade and
at the Big Lunch in Wolverton Road Recreation Ground.
The children enthusiastically planted 99 pots and
baskets for their homes.
These events were sponsored by MK Community
Foundation.
Wishing SSIB good luck with the Britain in Bloom
judging, which takes place on 9 July. Their Community
Tidy Day is 30 June; please try to spare some time to
help to get the town looking at its best.
Artists in Bloom
Exhibition
Thank you to everyone who produced a piece of art
for the Artist in Bloom Competition.
Every entry showed careful consideration for the
theme, imagination and artistic skill. This resulted in
some beautiful links with floral ideas, the community
and what the ‘in Bloom’ volunteers bring to our
towns, villages and estates.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter.
Obviously choosing a winner is the difficult part, as
each piece of art offers something very different.
The winning entry is being shown to the Britain in
Bloom judges and you can see their reactions in the
September edition of Essentially Local .
Exhibition of Artwork
The artwork will be on display at Stony Stratford Library
throughout August.
The winners will also be on display during July as part of the
Stony in Bloom exhibition. Please go along to take a look and
choose your winners.
