A Variety of Items
1. Additional New Member Details
My sincere apologies are due to Mrs. Brenda Pearson whose
details I omitted from the new member listing published in the
January 2018 edition of Faith & Flowers.
Roger
Mrs. Brenda Pearson, Parish Church of St. Peter, Bolton.
Liverpool Branch.
2. A new bloom – Princess Charlotte
The flower is pale green and very pale pink inside and very long
lasting (interesting but I didn’t like it very much, Ed.)
3. Summer annuals for flower arranging.
Flowers which last well in water – sweet peas, cosmos, rubbekia,
antirrhinum, sunflowers.
Choose seeds of taller varieties – long stemmed flowers are better
in vases than bushy, compact varieties, except sunflowers. Tall
sunflowers produce a single flower unlike the bushy variety
which produces many flowers per plant.
Choose white or green flowers to fill in with other colours i.e.
green nicotiana and Moluccella Laevis (bells of Ireland) and
bupleurum rotundifolium which has greeny gold flowers and
eucalyptus-like foliage. Gypsophila for white obviously but note
it does need alkaline soil.
4. To make you smile
Two-and-a-half-year-old Ben was given a piece of cheese to eat
by his grandmother who forgot that it was extra mature. Ben
pulled a face and said, “This is bisdusting”.
