Attaining Crime Free Certification is a threephase process, requiring an eight-hour certification class, inspections by both the Orlando Police Department and Orlando Utilities Commission, and fulfilling Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design requirements. The communities that received Crime Free Certification are Alvista MetroWest, Amara at MetroWest, Central Park A MetroWest Condominium Association, Goldelm Siena Springs, Horizons at Stonebridge Place, The Residences at Veranda Park, Stonebridge Reserves and Vistas at Stonebridge Place. and a member of Boy Scout Troop 6, earned the honor of Eagle Scout. In addition to the 21 merit badges required to receive the highest rank in the Boy Scouts, Blake earned the bronze, gold and silver palms, which represent the additional number of merit badges earned beyond the Eagle Scout rank. The bronze palm represents five merit badges; the gold palm, 10; and the silver palm, 15. For his final project, Blake organized a 5K run that raised funds and clothing donations for Orange County Public Schools’ homeless students. Blake has been accepted at Texas A&M’s biomedical science program. He extends thank-yous to his scoutmasters and fellow troop members for supporting him throughout his many years of Scouting. MetroWest resident Sydney Burns is traveling abroad as part of one of the 43 faculty-led Maymester and Summer Study Abroad experiences offered at Belmont University. Traveling across the globe, the programs provide students with the opportunity to expand the classroom beyond the traditional experience. They are able to visit places they’ve never been, see historical sites and spend time experiencing new cultures. n Ocoee Blake Gardner of Boy Scout Troop 6 and recently of Ocoee earns the status of Eagle Scout. Robert “Bobby” Olszewski was honored with a Legislative Appreciation Award from the Florida League of Cities. He was presented the award for his defending of Home Rule, which gives local governments authority to enact policy not governed by the state. Out of 160 Florida legislators, Rep.
