THE GOAL...
REACH EVERY SCHOOL
The public school campus is a huge mission field. Millions of
students across the country don’t know of God’s love for them
and still others that know Christ don’t know how to share the
hope they have. Our aim is to guide them. By coming alongside
Christian students with a heart for their peers, we work to equip
them with the training and tools they need to better reach their
friends with the life-changing message of the gospel.
MINISTRY
HISTORY
VISION
Student-led, church-supported campus awakening to the love of Christ at every public school.
MISSION
To recruit and train university students to coach and mentor high school students
to reach their campuses for Christ.
CAMPUS OBJECTIVES
1 / Reach Every Student - Give every student the opportunity to hear about Christ, respond, grow as a new
believer, and plug into a local church.
2 / Mobilize the Christian Students - Multiply the number of gospel communicators actively sharing Christ
with their friends on campus.
3 / Mobilize the Christian Community - Gather support from the Christian community and local churches to
support and sustain the movement at your campus through prayer, participation, and finances.
4 / Develop Future Leaders - Equip future student leaders for the movement by involving them in the process
of reaching your campus for Christ and proactively training them for future leadership.
150,000 STUDENTS
This year, we saw this mission reach a new milestone. Since 2004, we’ve seen over 150,000 students attend
outreach rallies put on by Christian clubs! We started the year roughly 3,000 students away from reaching this
mark and we are closing the year with over 13,000 having attended rallies this year! God has been so good to
bring so many students to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. We would like to thank all the university, high
school, and middle schools students who led the way, the teachers that advised them, and all the churches
who supported them!
LETTER
FROM THE
PRESIDENT
We continue to be amazed at the lives God is changing as students are trained to bring the light of the gospel into
the darkness of their public schools. Not only are students finding new life in Christ through campus outreach, but
Christian students are growing as they lead outreach and witness at their schools.
Since Warren Willis founded the National School Project (NSP) in 2002, NSP has equipped students at over 300
schools to share Christ with their campuses. Nearly 165,000 students have heard the gospel and 7,500+ students
have indicated faith in Christ.
We provide our coaching year to year with a “move with the movers” mentality. This year NSP coached students at
94 schools around the country. Most of these schools are in our current bases in the greater Los Angeles and Chicago
areas. From these established hubs, we have also coached students in expansion cities such as San Jose, Green Bay,
and Tucson.
PRAYER
God worked this year in powerful ways through the prayers of students, parents, and teachers. I was encouraged to
hear a Christian club advisor in Chicago share how she saw nearly a dozen of her students attend the Christian club
outreach. These students were from all around the world and they were all students she had been praying for by
name—some were even from the detention hall!
We’ve also seen God move in response to prayers of other friends of the National School Project. This fall we mailed
our 2nd annual Pray and Send campaign to thousands of homes in hopes that many would pray with us for specific
daily requests for 40 days. I couldn’t believe it when Dr. Bill Thrasher, professor at Moody Theological Seminary
and author of a wonderful book on prayer, asked me urgently for a 2nd prayer guide because he had already worn
through his first one.
I know Bill is one of countless people who joined us for our 40 Days of Prayer or are praying regularly for the ministry
and personnel of NSP. Thank you! God is changing lives because of your prayers.
One of the things we asked you to pray for in our campaign was that students from many faiths and walks of life
would come to know Christ. God answered your prayers. This year, students from Muslim, Mormon, Buddhist, and
Jewish backgrounds indicated a desire to follow Christ, along with atheist students and students from challenging
inner-city environments. Next year, my prayer is to see the most concerted prayer effort we’ve ever had, and I trust
God will do even greater things as together his people ask him to do what only he can do.
PARTNERSHIP
True to our vision, all the outreach we see at public schools is led by students with the partnership of local churches.
We want to help churches who want to see their students trained to bring the gospel into their public schools.
As our church partnerships in Chicago and Los Angeles have continued to grow, churches in some of our expansion
cities have championed this mission as their own. Nine churches in Tucson, AZ, partnered with each other and NSP
to support the students leading outreach at Tanque Verde High. After an incredibly fruitful outreach week, one youth
pastor exclaimed, “Let’s see this at 10 schools next year!”
In San Jose, a growing number of influential churches have partnered together to support and expand NSP’s mission
for the schools of their city. Mike McClure, Senior Pastor at Calvary Chapel San Jose, says, “NSP has something that
I’ve been looking for. It’s something that has been a challenge I think with every church: how do we get into the
public schools? The gospel needs to be taken into high schools... We have this window of opportunity and we need
to take it.”
PROVISION
God continues to provide through the generosity of his people. Donations increased last year by 42% after increasing
by 37% the year prior. This year, generous giving has continued to outpace last year’s donations month after month.
Donations are coming in all shapes and sizes. Every year, right around half our budget comes from people personally
supporting our full-time staff, and another significant portion from people supporting our part-time workers. Thank
you to all who give generously to keep our people moving forward!
We also see people giving generously to support the broader mission of NSP. We were amazed to see a middle
school student donate several hundred dollars at our banquet to help provide the kind of mentorship he received
for students at another school. A midsize church in Chicago astounded us by increasing their annual gift to $20,000.
Whether you gave $10 or $100,000, thank you for your generous investment to bring the gospel to students!
LASTING IMPACT
Our goal is to train students not only to lead evangelistic outreach at their schools, but also to personally followup
with their peers and help them plug into their local church. That’s a tough assignment. NSP leaders have been
helping the ministry grow on the follow-up side for some time. This year, we saw students at an an increasing number
of schools implement a solid plan to follow up with their peers who accept Christ or want to learn more.
Many club leadership teams around the country called every student who indicated interest or a decision for Christ
within 72 hours of their outreach. I was talking with a pastor of a thriving church and he said, “That’s faster turnaround
than we see at our church!”
Beyond follow-up calls, students are getting together with their peers to follow up one on one, studying the Bible
with them, and bringing them to church. Throughout the year, I was deeply encouraged to hear of students who
came to Christ through campus outreach getting baptized at our partnering churches.
REAL CHALLENGES
For a variety of reasons, we did not coach as many schools as we had hoped this year. We said goodbye to a director
who accepted a job with a church, which also meant seeing the ministry placed on hold at a dozen or so schools in
that area. We also found that many of our staff had been running on low support levels for far too long and asked
them to take some time away from their responsibilities to develop their support teams. God has provided. Most of
our staff have seen their support come up to more sustainable levels, which will help them work from a position of
strength in the coming year.
LONG-TERM VISION
Our senior leadership has grappled with where we are today and where the Lord is leading us tomorrow. Even as
we consider our limitations today, we are trusting God for big goals for the years ahead. As we pray for God to take
the mission throughout the nation, we are praying God will allow us to see NSP launched in 8 metropolitan areas by
2025, up from the 2 we are established in today. Getting established in these new major cities will multiply our hubs
from which to launch out into the rest of the country. Our team has set goals for next year that will move the mission
forward as we work toward this vision.
Annual Report | 5

GOALS FOR THE YEAR AHEAD
1 / Launch NSP ministry in Dallas, TX
Our Founder and CEO Warren Willis is relocating to Dallas to personally launch
NSP’s ministry in Dallas. After 55 years of gospel ministry, Warren could easily
have retired by now. But Warren saw a need and decided to uproot and make
his 6th major move for the Lord (Berkeley, Guam, Canada, Mongolia, Los
Angeles, and now Dallas).
Warren’s leadership by example continues to inspire. One of our college
students came up to Warren this January after he announced he was moving
to Texas and said, “If you are willing to move when you are 80 to get Dallas
up and running, I’d be willing to invest the rest of my life in this mission field!”
Sure enough she filled out an application and is raising support to join staff.
I am excited to see how the Lord will bless Warren’s continued faithfulness and
to see NSP establish a hub in the southern region of the USA.
2 / Make NSP streamlined, user-friendly and scalable.
NSP has developed terrific training for students to reach their campus. We
want to streamline some of that training and make it easier for students to use.
We are also in the process of developing an app to help students plan, run and
track outreach at their school year after year. This will help us do what we’re
already doing better and pave the way for expansion throughout the country.
3 / Help everyone in NSP grow in their personal witnessing and walk with Christ.
Twenty years from now, what do we want every student we’ve trained to
say about the impact NSP had on their life? We spent some time asking this
question, and here’s what we hope they’ll say: “NSP taught me how to witness
and helped me grow in my walk with Christ so I could be a better leader for
Christ.”
We know that God has been answering this prayer since NSP’s earliest days.
Every year we see many students mobilized for personal witnessing. This year,
we are renewing our commitment to see personal witnessing thrive at every
campus where we coach students.
While we are helping students witness for Christ, we also want to help them
grow in their walk with Christ. We have identified a few key areas to help
students grow that will help them be stronger leaders for Christ. Toward that
end, we have developed an NSP Bible Memory Plan with verses on these areas.
The impact of this focus on leadership development will be huge. Not only will
these students share the gospel with many people this year, but they will also
be equipped to share Christ as they go off to college and enter their careers.
We also pray that God will raise up many of these students to join as NSP
missionaries and help take the ministry throughout the country in the years to
come.
STRATEGIC
OPPORTUNIES
IN GREATER LA
“As we continue to see
what God is doing through
students in Greater LA,
it gives us hope for what
God can do at schools
throughout the nation.”
Housing the second largest school district in the nation, the Greater Los Angeles area hosts one of the largest
student populations in the United States. Commonly known as the “Entertainment Capital of the World”, the Greater
LA area also boasts one of the highest standards of living in the USA. Despite the cultural and economic wealth of the
region, the LA Area is spiritually dark, ranking amongst the least biblically minded cities in the USA with only 19%* of
adults engaging with and asserting that the Bible is accurate in its teachings.
With this great need before us, NSP strives to make a difference in the lives of high school students that will result in
lasting transformation. Claire, a Christian club leader at Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead, CA, sums
up the impact she and her follow club leaders are having saying that it “will last and ultimately spread and that [it
will] filter from the students into their families and from the families into the workplaces and that ultimately it will be
reflecting Christ’s lights all across the mountaintop.”
Today, Greater LA is a great example of what a student-led, gospel-focused ministry can accomplish. As we continue
to see what God is doing through students in Greater LA, it gives us hope for what God can do at schools throughout
the nation as we look to using the Greater LA area as a strategic base of operations for expansion into the Southwest
and Northwest with opportunities in Northern California and Arizona.
LESSONS IN RELIANCE ON GOD
Alyssa was a senior at Santa Fe High School who joined
NSP this spring for a weak of evangelism and training
students in witnessing.
Alyssa had never been witnessing before and like
many others she was nervous about it. As she walked
around her high school campus after school with NSP
intern Joseph Stewart, he continually reminded her
to relax and tried to encourage her as best he could.
When he saw a friendly looking group of people he
pointed them out to Alyssa and encouraged her to talk
to them, reminding her he’d be there to help.
Nervously, Alyssa began walking over to them before
quickly turning around and asking Joseph to repeat
all the advice he had recently told her. He reminded
her to approach it like any other conversation and
encouraged her to try again. The conversation started
a little awkwardly, but Alyssa found her groove quickly
and began to share the gospel.
Alyssa had never met these students before, but by
the end of the conversation two of them had been
introduced to Christ and accepted Him into their
hearts. Feeling more confident, Alyssa led the next
witnessing conversation by herself and saw another
person come to know Christ! “I felt really proud of
her!” Joseph said, “It’s really cool to see such growth
in such a short period of time!”
Josh shares at Temple City
High School in March 2018.
FINDING HOPE IN A HOPELESS PLACE
In Temple City, CA, Josh, a Christian club leader at
Temple City High School, boldly shared his personal
testimony in his school’s bustling quad for a lunchtime
rally. Josh’s faith journey started in misery. He was
sexually abused at age three by a family member. Then,
at age six, he was orphaned when his father committed
murder-suicide, taking the life of Josh’s mother and
grandmother before taking his own. In middle school,
he was haunted by depression, suicidal thoughts, and
the idea he might be a mistake.
It was in this dark place that God met him, bringing
healing and joy. God’s truth dispelled his personal
demons, and Josh discerned that if God could restore
him then there is hope for everyone. At the rally, Josh
publicly bared his emotional scars in front of the entire
student body in an attempt to show his peers that God’s
light can pierce any darkness and that no hardship you
face can doom you to a lifetime of despair.
“I cried a lot,” one listener said, “But I was really
blessed by Josh having the courage to share. I know
he came from a rough background but... God was still
able to touch him.”
CHICAGOLAND
AND BEYOND
Containing O’Hare International Airport where over 2,500 aircraft take off
and land every day and many major highway systems running through the
city, Chicago is one of the great hubs of the United States. As the third-most
populous area in the USA with 9.5 million residents, the Chicago metropolitan
area is also home to some of the most dangerous high schools in the nation.
With 81%* of the adult population claiming a neutral or antagonistic stance
to the Bible, Chicago is in desperate need of the gospel.
NSP has been working in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs since 2010.
The work started with exploratory mission trips and then later expanded into
three ministry chapters at first class Christian colleges, NSP’s work in Chicago
has proven that our ministry model can be successfully transplanted to other
metropolitan cities across the nation.
From Chicagoland, NSP is well-positioned to spread into the Midwest and
East Coast. We’ve made exploratory excursions into Midwestern cities and
established connections in Baltimore. We pray these opportunities will grow
into new ministries to reach the heart of the country.
“That is why I do
this… All the rallies
and witnessing,
it’s all worth it for
just that one guy.”
DISCOVERING TRUTH:
FROM AGNOSTIC TO BELIEVER
Pictured: Wheaton College coach and two time US Olympic
CULTIVATING AN ENVIRONMENT
OF FREEDOM IN CHRIST
Emily Meredith wanted her time
in college to be an opportunity
to serve the Lord: NSP gave her
that chance. Growing up in public
schools, Emily was heartbroken
by the godlessness and bondage
to sin she saw around her. After
graduating, she prayed God
would use her college life not only as a chance to grow
in maturity but also as a time to minister to people
and bring lost souls to a saving knowledge of Jesus
Christ. When she discovered NSP, she saw it as an
answer to prayer. Emily entered Wheaton College
and committed her time to NSP as an administrative
assistant and a mentor for three schools.
One of her schools, Monroe Middle School, has seen
an enormous success in sharing the gospel. Students
at Monroe held three gospel rallies this year, two of
which saw at least a fifth of the school attend, including
international students from all over the world and
many of the students from the detention hall. One club
leader saw two of his friends come to Christ and get
baptized, and at least 29 students indicated decisions
to accept Christ. From helping students plan rallies to
leading witnessing trips, Emily is working to cultivate a
better spiritual environment in public schools than the
one she grew up in.
As children, Aiden and Jack played together every
day. Sometimes, when Aiden would sleep over on
Saturdays, he’d go to church with Jack. The experience
made Aiden curious about Christ, but he remained
staunchly agnostic: he just had too many questions.
In high school, Jack became a leader at Bartlett
High School’s Christian club and worked to plan an
Outreach Week in December with coaching from NSP.
Aiden attended a few of the rallies after school. Jack
remembers seeing him at their apologetics rally. He
stayed around talking to the pastor afterward, asking
him all sorts of questions. It was obvious Aiden was
doing a lot of thinking, and Jack continued to follow
up with him and talk to him about his questions. A few
weeks passed and Aiden called Jack to tell him that he
was just sitting in his car reaching out to God and that
God had answered. He dedicated his life to God right
there in the car and joyfully called to tell his friend the
news.
From that point forward, Aiden began showing up
to the Christian club meetings and attending church.
The NSP Team was overjoyed when they heard that
on March 18, Aiden was baptized. Aaron Hezeltine, a
NSP Student Leader, said, “That is why I do this… All
the rallies and witnessing, it’s all worth it for just that
one guy.” He said stories like this show it’s not about
the number of people you get to attend a rally, it’s also
about reaching out and following up.
Aiden had always been an upbeat guy but, after
his conversion, you could see the change. He was
radiating with joy. God had gone from an abstract idea
to a personal and loving Father, Savior, and friend.
involved with NSP through the TIU chapter.
Pictured: Kynasia while still a student with her mentor and
current IL State Director Heather Barnes.
IS THERE ANYTHING
TOO HARD FOR GOD?
Kynasia Hughlett is an alumna and former Christian club leader from Englewood, one of the most violent
communities in America. Four years ago, she came to faith while a sophomore at Harper High School
through outreach on campus. Today, she’s still walking with the Lord and encouraging current students
with her testimony. At a recent NSP banquet, she told her story. She said at 15, “In my mind, I was a
product of my life… I was smoking, drinking, living with my boyfriends… and I just didn’t like myself and
I didn’t like people. [To me] everything was the white man’s fault… they were our enemy.”
Kynasia, looking back on her conversion, cites two verses, “He who has ears, let him hear.” (Matthew 13:9)
and, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). Kynasia says simply,
“So I began to follow Jesus; I began to believe in him.”
After giving her life to Christ, Kynasia says that God began freeing her from everything: her addictions,
immorality, cursing, hatred, and blame. He provided for her, even miraculously providing money when
she had one penny in her bank account and she feared going hungry. Kynasia said, “[I felt] like I was so
ugly... so hideous in my soul [but] if God can do things like that for me... If God can bring that out of me,
what can God do for you? Our God is so awesome! Is there anything too hard for God?”
Later, Kynasia commented about the lasting transformation the gospel had brought to her life, “I am now
21 years old, two years out of high school, and I have been walking with Jesus, and just reading His Word,
and staying … around other believers … God is calling me to my purpose and who I should be and what I
should say in Christ Jesus. … I’m falling in love with Jesus.” As she finished speaking, she looked out into
a crowd of people, some that she used to hate, and in a testament to God’s work in her life she closed,
“I love you all, everybody.”
BROADENING
BORDERS
Ryan Hall, Senior Pastor at Harvest Bible
Chapel in Palos Heights, IL, said about
NSP, “If God can do this in Los Angeles,
if God can do this in Chicago, then this
can happen anywhere.” We are seeing
God work in cities such as Tucson, AZ,
San Jose, CA, and, Lord willing, soon in
Dallas, TX.
We have a goal to see the ministry
established in 6 new major cities in the
next 6 years. We have identified cities
we hope to serve in, are sending shortterm
mission trips to these cities and
are working to connect with interested
pastors, teachers, students, and parents
throughout the country.
Launching the ministry in Dallas, TX this
year will be a major step forward toward
this goal and, Lord willing, position us for
future expansion in the Southern region
of the USA.
EXPANSION:
DALLAS-FORT WORTH METROPOLITAN AREA
Warren Willis, NSP Founder and CEO, hit two milestones this year. In March,
he celebrated his 80th birthday and, in May, 55 years of full-time Christian
service. Even so, Warren is pioneering a new field of ministry: He’s bringing
NSP to Texas! Warren and and his wife Mary are moving to the Dallas-
Fort Worth area, one of the most religiously active areas in the nation with
37%* of the adult population acting as strong proponents to the Scripture.
Warren intends to use the strong Christian base to facilitate rapid expansion
in order to reach the other 63% of the population that still needs the gospel.
Please pray for this ministry! Pray for the younger generation in the churches—
especially students and young adults—to be awakened to a calling to share
Jesus. Ask God to give them a passion for outreach in Dallas-Fort Worth that
will define their generation for years to come. Warren will begin recruiting
university students this fall at Dallas Baptist University (DBU).
From Feb. 26 – Mar. 2, a group of NSP volunteers used
their Spring Break to support 7 high school Christian
clubs in the San Jose area that were hosting Outreach
Weeks. Despite being home to “the least churchgoing
population of any place in America,”* over
1,000 students attended these evangelistic rallies and
over 100+ students indicated they accepted Jesus
Christ as their Savior! God was clearly on the move
as the immense unity and collaboration between local
churches (such as Calvary Chapel San Jose), community
members, and evangelistic ministries (such as The
Whosoevers) not only helped boost the immense
student turnout but ended up connecting NSP with
two schools that we had no connection to before.
The 7 day mission trip planned on helping six schools
who had been being mentored by NSP: Leigh, Pioneer,
Leland, Valley Christian, De Anza, and Branham high
schools. However, one supporter following The
Whosoevers on Instagram was so blown away by
everything being done on high school campuses, she
managed to connect NSP and the Whosoevers with
the Christian club at Yerba Buena High School and a
rally was quickly planned and put on within 36 hours!
Therefore, over the course of 5 days, 13 Christian club
events happened. Thursday alone featured six gospel
rallies at different schools, forcing the team to split
into pairs to help all of them. “That day was super
exciting!” recalled NSP intern Laura Bell.
Joseph, a junior at Leland High, shared one of his
takeaways from the week: “You can’t be passive
about leading [outreach]. You have to go all out… You
shouldn’t be so concerned about if people will look at
you and think things about you... The only approval
you will ever need is God’s.”
rally’s incredible turnout.
FRUIT FROM FAITHFULNESS
TUCSON, ARIZONA
“Guys!! One of the girls who accepted Christ
at our Outreach Week got baptized this
Easter morning, praise the Lord! Woo-hoo!!”
The Bible club president at Tanque Verde
High School in Tucson, Arizona, excitedly
texted her leadership team after an especially
successful Outreach Week. 215 students, over
a third of the student body of 600, attended
one of the four outreach events, 25 students
indicating first-time decisions for Christ, and
55 students said they recommitted.
“Let’s see this happen
at 10 schools next year!”
Pictured: David shares his testimony
at Tanque Verde’s third rally
These successes were particularly amazing,
as the club had been prohibited from putting
on an outreach event for the past two years.
For those years, their school had a rule: no
non-curricular club activities during school
hours. That meant they couldn’t have club
meetings during free periods or lunch, and
they couldn’t hold gospel outreaches during
lunchtime in the quad or gym. For years,
the club faithfully used the routes available to them to get the
gospel out. This year, they had their club meetings before school,
they had NSP train them in personal witnessing, and they spent
one whole week in January dedicating themselves to witnessing
every day during lunch. By the end of the week, they had talked
to exactly 100 students. God responded to both their prayers and
faithfulness when in the spring He finally opened the doors for
gospel rallies at Tanque Verde.
Nine churches partnered together to support this outreach. One
youth pastor was so excited he exclaimed, “Let’s see this happen
at 10 schools next year!” In response to his enthusiasm and
increased opportunities in Tucson, NSP is excited to see Mikayla
Reuter, the first ever Student Leader in Arizona—who herself was
coached by NSP as a high school club leader—work part-time to
deepen and expand the ministry in Tucson next year.
LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER AND CEO
We have watched as God moved this year in hearts and on
campuses all over the country.
2018 marks 16 years since NSP was founded. Back then it
was just a small but ambitious project operating with just a
few college students from Biola University. Today, we find
ourselves with full-time staff operating out of two states and
soon to expand to a third, Texas. We are truly humbled by
God’s goodness in providing the spiritual and material support
we need to make this happen.
Thank you for every prayer and dollar that you have graciously
and faithfully given!
At NSP, we follow Christ’s example of discipleship and love.
Everyone, from our executives to our volunteers, shares the
same desire to cultivate bold believers in Christ Jesus. The
love of God has touched and transformed our lives and so it is
passed on to the students we work with. It is thrilling for me to
see high school students and even middle school students dedicate themselves
to sharing the gospel on their individual campuses and then seeing the fruit of
their sowing!
How has NSP been blessed in 2017-2018? 97 university volunteers have given
their time this year. 18 full-time staff members, with 39 part-time workers have
faithfully served. 82+ churches this year have partnered with us. And you have
provided the funding to make it all happen!
You can be, as we are, greatly encouraged knowing that the work of the Lord is
being done. Your provision has borne fruit and will continue to bear fruit as we
work to bring God’s love to shine into public schools where it is so desperately
needed. This is definitely an investment with compounded interest.
Thank you again for all that you have done. I look forward to the coming school
year as we continue in our mission to eventually bring the love of Christ to every
public school in America.
“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession,
and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.”
(2 Cor. 2:14, ESV)
We trust the Living God of the Bible to guide us and grow us as we advance in
our love for Him!
