West End Community Library
Thank you all so much for the wonderful response to the request for
bookcases for the new library. The library will be open to everyone in the
community and will provide a nice space to read, learn, listen to poetry and
tell stories.
WERS is working with Borderline Books based on the Team Valley and the
first batch of books was collected a couple of weeks ago. We are particularly
interested in fiction and nonfiction books in languages other than English. If
anyone has any such books we'd love to hear from you.

Last year (2010/11) Recyke y'Bike provided 75 asylum seekers and
refugees with free bikes, helmets, locks and the offer of Cycle Training. This
has been subsidised with funding from the Your Homes Newcastle Asylum
Seeker Unit Grant Aid and more recently the Hilden Trust.
The funding (for 30 bikes) has nearly been used up as we have, this year,
provided 26 more. There is such a demand that we still have 16 clients on
the waiting list. At this time of year it's a bit of a problem as there is a huge
demand for cheap bikes from students and the 4 P/T mechanics really need
to work on the 20+ bikes that we need to sell a week to break even.
Our problem is lack of bikes. If you have one or know of anyone who has a
bike, never mind the condition or age, don't let it go to the tip - bring it to
Recyke y'Bike.
