Lighting Mini Project
Design Technology - IB
Internal Assessment
Practical 2
BRIEF
For this project you will need to design and make a lighting system. This can
be any type of lighting. It could be security, patio or standard domestic
lighting. It could be a re-design of an existing product or an entirely new
product choose an everyday object
You will be formally assessed on:
Planning
• Firstly consider a design problem and establish a design need.
• You need to think about what application the light must have.
• Write a short specification to focus your ideas. You also need to identify
research to help you focus your designs. Do not forget to record your
sources!
Research
• Identify suitable strategies for your research.
• Collect appropriate research material.
• Analyse your research material.
Development
• Use a range of ideas to solve your problem. (Use a wide range of
techniques).
• Produce a finished working drawing. (with annotation)
• Develop these ideas into one workable design. Test, model or
experiment with your ideas before your Final Design. Show your
construction and materials that you will use and why.
• Construct your Light
Evaluation
• Consider the design brief and the specification to evaluate the success
of the product. Use the end user to help support this. Evaluate your
product with these factors in mind and state modifications and
improvements to your product.
