With the events of World War One now commencing over 100 years 

ago, putting the events of the war into perspective for students is 

not always an easy task. Adaptable Travel can assist by arranging 

your bespoke Belgian Battlefields trip to Ypres and The Somme. We

Suggested Itinerary 

Day 1 

Depart UK early morning by coach and ferry. 

Arrive in Ypres for a guided tour of the 

battlefield sites (Menin Gate, Essex Farm, 

Tyne Cot Cemetary) rounded off with a visit 

to Hill 60 and Sanctuary Wood Museum. 

Early evening visit to the Menin Gate for the 

Last Post Ceremony. 

Arrive at your accommodation. 

Day 2 

Breakfast at accommodation. 

Morning exploration of Ypres (In Flanders 

Museum). 

Afternoon of The Somme battlefield sites 

(Thiepval Memorial, Newfoundland Park and 

Musee Somme 1916). 

Evening meal at accommodation, optionaly 

your group could go ten-pin bowling. 

Day 3 

Breakfast at accommodation. 

Morning visit to Chocolaterie Peter de Groote for chocolate tasting and souvenir shopping. Then, 

proceed to visit Vimy Ridge

KRAKOW & 

AUSCHWITZ

Krakow is simply one of the most inspiring and curriculum 

enhancing destinations for any history school trip group. 

Fortunately spared destruction during World War II, the medieval 

city of Krakow houses more artworks and historic buildings than 

any other Polish city and is the country’s most popular destination. 

Capital of Poland for more than 500 years and a setting for the 

Oscar winning film Schindler’s List, Krakow is an ancient city with a 

haunting past. 

On a school trip to Krakow, students can expect to learn and gain a 

greater understanding of the atrocities committed by the Nazis in 

nearby concentration camps Plaszow and Auschwitz-Birkenau and 

how the city became a ghetto for Jewish persecution during World 

War II. 

For an appreciation of Poland’s history before World War II, students 

can visit the impressive Wawel Castle, take a leisurely stroll around 

the Old Town Square and visit the Salt Mines to appreciate the 

natural splendours of Poland. With its medieval charm and gothic 

architecture, Krakow is a city blessed with historical landmarks and 

monuments that act as a poignant reminder of Europe’s turbulent 

past.

Day 1 

After arriving in Berlin, subject to your 

flight time you may have enough time to 

explore some of Berlin’s sites before you 

check into your accommodation. If this is 

the case, we suggest you head straight to 

the Berlin Wall memorial to get an overview 

of the significance of this structure to the 

city. Afterwards, you will head onto your 

accommodation, and we can even book you 

an evening meal at the accommodation or 

local restaurant if required. 

Day 2 

Today your students will have the chance 

to explore the history of Berlin by taking 

The Story of Berlin Museum Tour. This will 

be followed by guided insider walking tour, 

taking in a visit to the Holocaust Memorial, 

Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate 

and the Reichstag parliament building 

(please note the Reichstag needs to be 

booked directly by the school, but we can 

assist with contact details). Finally enjoy 

an evening meal, pre-booked by Adaptable 

Travel. 

Day 3 

Today your students will continue their 

education of the Nazis by visiting the 

Topography of Terror, to truly understand 

the impacts of the Nazi Gestapo, in their HQ. 

In the afternoon, continue to the famous 

Checkpoint Charlie, a famous point now 

dedicated to the history of the East and West 

divide. Finally, visit the Berlin TV Tower and 

rise above the city for striking views. Follow 

this with some free time and an evening 

meal. 

Day 4 

You may have some free time before your 

return the UK. Extended durations are 

available – if you decide to extend your 

stay, we highly recommend visiting the 

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, 

located just outside of Berlin (35km). This 

former Nazi concentration camp, now a 

museum, was primarily used for political 

prisoners during WW2. If you have the 

energy, we highly recommend a visit to the 

Olmypiastadium –built as a showpiece of the 

Nazi regime for the infamous 1936 Olympics 

where Hitler conducted speeches welcoming 

the world.

Brimming with Royal Bavarian heritage and flourishing as 

Germany’s southernmost capital city with art galleries and 

museums a plenty, Munich is a place of learning with an 

interesting history. 

Amidst the ashes of World War I, Munich emerged as the 

setting where people began to take notice of the impassioned 

speeches of a certain disillusioned Adolph Hitler. Seeking 

refuge and looking to forget their problems against a 

backdrop of economic decline and civil unrest, the spoken 

words of Adolph Hitler resonated with the German people in 

the beerhalls of Munich quickly establishing the city as the 

birthplace of the Nazi party and the spiritual capital behind 

the movement. Culminating in the failed Munich Putsch of 

1923, Munich was to become the headquarters of the Nazi 

Party and the focal point from where Hitler launched his 

masterplan to seize control of Germany with chilling effect. 

With so much history and fascinating exhibits to be explored, 

a school trip to Munich will help students learn about how 

the Nazi party developed from their small beginnings in the 

beerhalls of Munich to a nationwide movement that nearly 

conquered the world.

Day 1 

On arrival in Munich, depending on your flight 

time, check into your accommodation and 

take a guided tour of Munich to familiarise 

yourself with the local area. 

On your Third Reich Walking Tour students 

can retrace the footsteps of the Nazi party 

and follow the growth of the movement from 

its first mass meeting at the Hofbrauhaus to 

its complete dictatorship of Germany. 

We can arrange an evening meal at your 

accommodation or in a local restaurant on 

request. 

Day 2 

Today your group will be picked up by coach 

and taken to Dachau Concentration Camp, 

the first concentration camp established by 

the Nazis and the blueprint for many more. 

Here your students will learn more about 

how Hitler and the Nazi Party rid German 

society of their perceived enemies and how 

Dachau was the first of many more concentration 

camps to come during the Nazis reign 

of terror. 

Finish the day and return to your accommodation. 

We can arrange an evening meal at 

your accommodation or in a local restaurant 

on request. 

Day 3 

Today your students will be picked up by coach and taken to Nuremberg to learn more about 

how the Nazis saw Nuremburg as a classic example of a city rich in Germanic and imperial history. 

Formerly the location for Nazi Party rallies and subsequently the infamous Nuremberg Trials, 

Nuremberg is home to some of Germany’s most significant World War II Sites. Start at the Nazi 

Party Rally Grounds, visit the Nazi Documentation Centre and explore Nuremberg’s Palace of 

Justice to learn more about the Nazi Party and the Third Reich. 

Finish the day and return to your accommodation. We can arrange an evening meal at your accommodation 

or in a local restaurant on request. 

Day 4 

Subject to your flight times, your group may have some free time before you travel back to the 

airport and fly back to the UK. We suggest Therme Erding Waterpark as a great way to finish of 

your excellent school trip to Munich.
