SHAPING CHANGE
Demographic trends, climate change, urbanization and the overarching
aspect of sustainability present an ever-growing number of
challenges to the construction industry. Flexibility and innovation
are crucial for developing appropriate responses. New strategies,
resource-saving technologies and energy-efficient products are
required whilst also bearing the economic aspect in mind.
As a continuing training forum for the precast industry, the Beton-
Tage congress provides you with new ideas and inspiration, showcases
possible solutions and informs you of latest trends in building
materials, products, manufacturing methods and standardization –
to enable you to not only support change but to proactively shape
it, in keeping with the theme of this year‘s congress.
Good to see you again!

Out of Africa
Located in the Swabian village of Burlafingen, the Walther Collection
has long gone beyond just being
an inside tip for the international
art community. Artur Walther, a
former investment banker from
New York, set up his private
museum right in the middle of a
quiet residential area where his parents‘ house once stood. His collection
of 1,200 works of more than 100 artists is one of the largest
collections of contemporary photography and video art worldwide,
with a focus on works of African artists. This approach is also
underscored by the current exhibition, which portrays the landscape
of Southern Africa. Yet the museum compound with its white fairfaced
concrete cube is also an architectural masterpiece in its own
right.
8 FEBRuARy 2012, 9:30 – 12:00
A Piece of Home
In a listed former barracks building of the Ulm Federal fortress,
the Donauschwäbische Zentralmuseum (Central Danube Swabian
Museum) is located. On an area of about 1,500 sq m, the museum
presents the multi-faceted history of the Danube Swabians, documenting
their planned resettlement in the 18th century, their life in
the multi-ethnic communities of South-Eastern Europe, their expulsion
and emigration during the Second World War, and their present
situation in the unified Europe. This journey through time provides
interesting insights into the life, culture and traditions of the Danube
Swabians.
PARTICIPATION
Unless otherwise stated, individuals accompanying congress attendees
may participate in all accompanying persons program events
free of charge. Please use the form specifically provided for registration.
ulm Jewelry Tales
Both the art of goldsmithery and the city of Ulm have a long tradition,
which is proven not only by a guided tour through the Gold and
Silver Department of the Ulm Museum but also, just a few meters
away, by the shop of one of the most successful jewelers: in 1994,
the long established Ehinger-Schwarz family business invented the
modular jewelry system called Charlotte, which laid the foundation
to its worldwide success. Owner and award-winning jewelry designer
Wolf-Peter Schwarz will take care of you personally and tell you
more about the philosophy of his exceptional jewelry workshop.
design Renowned the World Over – Made in ulm
In 1953, the Ulm School of Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung; HfG)
was founded. Many famous products were designed at this school
until its closure in 1968, which is why it is still considered a very influential
design school on an international scale, second only to the
Bauhaus.
Take part in a guided tour to learn more about the architecture and
history of this renowned school and get insights into the architectural
and intellectual revitalization of this listed complex. From 2011,
interested parties pursuing design-related activities may rent rooms
at the renamed „Center for Design, HfG Ulm“ in order to revive the
spirit of the school. Ehinger-Schwarz also seized this opportunity
and set up its new headquarters there.
Ehinger-Schwarz also seized this opportunity and set up its new
the evening and demonstrate how the unique pieces of jewelry are
