WELCOME TO FEDERAL HYBRIDS

We would like to thank all our customers, dealers, distributors and employees for making this past year another

successful year. Your support is greatly appreciated! If you are new to Federal Hybrids, you can be assured that the

varieties highlighted in this brochure are top-of-the-line seed products with the latest in technologies, traits and

genetics. We strive to maintain our customers’ trust and business by providing the highest-quality, best performing

corn hybrids, soybean varieties and alfalfa seed. We also work hard to provide superior customer service.

Federal Hybrids is an independent, family-owned company that offers a broad portfolio of products including

Monsanto, Syngenta, Dow AgroSciences, Bayer and others to help maximize your diversity, thereby reducing your

risk. One of the many ways Federal Hybrids customers benefit from our being an independent company is through

third-party evaluation of genetic diversity.

In an age of high input costs, today’s farmer needs to closely manage all aspects of their operation. Deciding which

varieties and traits go on each field is the most important input factor that we have the ability to control. Federal

Hybrids matches your farm’s soil types and farming practices with the best varieties and traits the industry has to

offer. Our knowledgeable sales staff will help you choose the right varieties and traits for your specific farm fields to

give you the greatest return on your investment.

As we look to the future, we are focusing on farm averages of 300 bushels per acre on corn, 100 bushels per acre on

soybeans, and 10 tons of alfalfa per acre. Our goal is to help the American farmer increase their production and be

more competitive in today’s marketplace.

We appreciate you being part of our team, and we look forward to being your seed specialist.

We’ll do whatever we can to earn your business,

and even more to keep it.

OUR STORY

FOUNDED 1932

FEDERAL HYBRIDS

FEDERAL HYBRIDS STORY Federal Hybrids has had a

successful history going all the way back to 1932 when

Allen Thurman founded the company in Eastern Iowa.

From the start, Federal Hybrids was on the cutting

edge of new technology by being one of the first

companies to promote single-cross corn in the United

States. Today, that same leading-edge technology is a

core value of Federal Hybrids.

In 1999 Tim Butikofer purchased Federal Hybrids.

Busy with another agri-business project, Tim only

marketed seed through a friend in a neighboring state

until 2004. Encouraged by family members and others,

Tim and his wife, Kathy, began marketing out of Elgin,

Iowa, in 2004. Tim’s brother-in-law, Kent Banwart,

soon became part-owner of the Company. Carrying

on the tradition of family values, research, technology,

seed quality, and diversified products, Federal Hybrids

rapidly outgrew their Elgin facility. In 2009 operations

expanded to West Bend, IA, and by 2015 the warehouse

size was doubled to accommodate our rapid growth.

Today Federal Hybrids markets in 20 states, and

is known for becoming one of the fastest growing,

independent seed companies in the Midwest. In the

last five years, Federal Hybrids’ growth has increased

an average of 25% per year. Our rapid growth is due to

a combination of great people, great products, great

performance, and repeat business.

Product selection has been the key to our growth

and success. Our distributors are a large part of our

product selection team. We feel our distributors are

the ones walking your fields, knowing your production

limiting factors, and have been a great asset to our

product selection process. Product selection and

prescription product placement are two of the most

important decisions that can help increase your yield

and profitability.

Federal Hybrids offers an excellent portfolio of leadingedge

genetics and technology that will significantly

boost profit on every acre planted. Federal Hybrids

continues its well-established relationships with the

industry’s leading genetic and trait providers.

Our ability to access genetics and traits from such

a diversified platform provides the Federal Yield

Advantage. The Federal Yield Advantage is evident

in many F.I.R.S.T. Trial results, appreciated by our

satisfied customers, and responsible for our repeat

business and rapid growth.

Federal Hybrids is honored to have served the

American farmer for 86 years with the latest in seed

technologies, traits, and genetics. We welcome you

to become part of Federal Hybrids so you, too, can

experience the Federal Yield Advantage!

WULF FAMILY TESTIMONIAL

GROW WITH US!

“The goal for some time has been to reach 300 bushels per acre on corn. With great

management practices and elite genetics from Federal Hybrids, growers are beginning

to achieve these yields! With yields like these, every grower should be trying

Federal Hybrids seed on their farm.”

In Washington County, Iowa, this last fall, we had some great Federal Hybrids seed corn yield results:

Vittetoe Farms, Washington, IA TEST PLOT - FH 6680 VT2 Pro RIB.........................301.88 bushels/acre

F.I.R.S.T. Trials, Washington, IA, TEST PLOT – FH 5885 VT2 Pro..............310.2 bushels/acre - early test

F.I.R.S.T. Trials, Washington, IA, TEST PLOT – FH 6280 Smart Stax..........320.2 bushels/acre - late test

“All three of these seed corn products were first

released in 2018. Federal Hybrids works hard to

stay on the leading edge of genetics and

technology. Part of my job is to evaluate seed

products and bring you the very best

products for your farm. The Federal

Hybrids Seed Product Guide contains

all of the new seed products that

are just being released in 2019, as

well as seed products released

earlier that are still top-quality,

excellent products.”

In 2018, Federal Hybrids, a leading independent supplier of seed

corn, soybeans and alfalfa, was featured on the award winning

“American Farmer” television series on the RFD-TV channel. Federal

Hybrids markets seeds in the United States and is known as one of

the fastest growing, independent seed companies in the Midwest.

Federal Hybrids attributes its rapid growth to a combination of great

people, great products and great performance.

VT2 PRO

VT2 PRO RIB

DGVT2 PRO RIB

Roundup Ready® Corn 2 contains in-plant tolerance to Roundup® brand herbicides, enabling growers

to spray Roundup® brands over the top, from planting through the V8 stage or 30-inch corn height,

with excellent crop safety and no yield reduction. Compared to popular conventional corn programs,

the Roundup Ready® Corn 2 system costs less, while allowing hybrids to reach their maximum yield

potential. While the U.S. regulatory agencies have given full approval to Roundup Ready® Corn 2

for commerce in the U.S. for marketing and consumption as food, food ingredients and feed for

livestock, certain regulatory approvals are pending in certain export markets. For more information

on these approvals, or for assistance in locating domestic grain outlets, see the American Seed Trade

Association web site (www.amseed.org) or contact Monsanto directly at 800-768-6387.

VT Double PRO® is the first double-stacked corn trait that requires just 20% separate, structured

refuge. Dual modes of action provide maximum protection against corn earworm and other aboveground

pests, like European and Southwestern corn borers and fall armyworm.

VT Double PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 95% traited and 5% refuge seed. With

refuge-in-a-bag, there’s no need to calculate or plant separate, structured refuge in the Corn-

Growing Area. It contains dual modes of action for maximum protection against corn earworm and

other above-ground pests, like European and Southwestern corn borers and fall armyworm.

DroughtGard® Hybrids with VT Double PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend contain the first doublestacked

trait with dual modes of action for above ground insects and maximum protection against

corn earworm. Superior genetics along with innovative drought-tolerant trait technology helps

DroughtGard® Hybrids withstand drought conditions for a better chance of maximizing kernels per

ear and overall yield potential.

VT3 PRO RIB

SSTAX RIB

Genuity® VT Triple PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 90% traited and 10% refuge seed.

With refuge-in-a-bag, there’s no need to calculate or plant separate, structured refuge in the Corn-

Growing Area. Dual modes of action protect against corn earworm and other above-ground, earfeeding

insects. An additional single mode of action provides protection from below-ground pests

like corn rootworm.

SmartStax® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 95% Bt. traited, 5% refuge seed. You get all the

benefits of SmartStax® technology, plus the convenience of 5% refuge seed interspersed in every

bag. It has proven to have a 10 bu/A advantage over non-Bt. traited corn and a 20 bu/A advantage

over non-Bt. treated corn + a soil-applied insecticide.

GT

The Agrisure® GT trait provides tolerance to in-crop applications of glyphosate-based herbicides.

This hybrid is an excellent option for refuge acres in a structured refuge operation.

GTA

The Agrisure Artesian® GTA trait stack combines a hybrid that optimizes the conversion of water to

grain and provides improved yield consistency with tolerance to in-crop applications of glyphosatebased

herbicides.

VP 3111

The Agrisure Viptera® 3111 trait stack offers the most comprehensive above-ground insect control

in the industry, plus control of corn rootworm, to protect genetic yield potential.

3122 E-Z

The Agrisure® 3122 E-Z Refuge® trait stack offers the convenience of an E-Z Refuge® seed blend

with multiple modes of action against corn borer and corn rootworm, as well as suppression of

ear-feeding insects.

GT 3011A

The Agrisure Artesian® 3011A trait stack combines a hybrid that converts water to grain more

efficiently than other hybrids, providing improved yield consistency, with traits that help control

corn borer and corn rootworm, and offer herbicide flexibility.

SOYBEAN TRAITS

R2X

RR2Y

LLGT+

Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Soybeans is the industry’s first biotech-stacked soybean trait with both

dicamba and glyphosate herbicide tolerance. Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® is built on the high yielding

Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybean technology.

Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® Soybeans have demonstrated a clear yield advantage: They

yield an average 4.5 Bu/A advantage over original Round Ready soybeans. Studies show that

Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans develop greater root biomass, more nodes on the main stem and

larger shoot biomass than original Roundup Ready® soybean products.

Created with high-yielding elite genetics, LibertyLink® GT27 soybeans will give growers exceptional

performance coupled with outstanding weed control. LibertyLink GT27 soybeans will be the first

soybean technology enabling both Liberty® and glyphosate use over the top.

TESTIMONIAL

“We plant 100% Federal Hybrids

seed on our 500 acres of corn.

We are confident when we plant

Federal Hybrids seed that we will

get consistently excellent yield

results. Distributor Nick Benson

helps us choose the perfect

hybrids for our farming

operation. There’s nobody quite

like Nick… he’s great. We recently

traveled with the Federal Hybrids

group. The friendly staff and

their customers were terrific to

travel with.”

TESTIMONIAL

“I have been planting Federal Hybrids

seed since 2009. Federal Hybrids

offers competitive pricing on their

seed products. My Federal Hybrids

corn yields are as good as, if not

better than, competing corn brands.

Distributor Dan McAtee helps match

the right hybrids to the different soil

types on my farms: black dirt, sand,

and clay. I especially like to use

Federal Hybrids seed for my corn-oncorn

acres on the rough, clay areas.

Dan is very knowledgeable and helps

me choose the right hybrids to fit my

farming practices.”

“I am now farming with my uncle,

Eldon Banwart, who has been

planting Federal Hybrids seed for 5

or 6 years. Last year we planted our

200 acres of corn with Federal

Hybrids 5550 Smart Stax, 5550 VT2

Pro RIB, 5370 VT2 Pro RIB, and 5060

Smart Stax RIB seed. Federal Hybrids

seed has produced the highest

yielding corn in the last 5 years on

our farm. We have been impressed

with the plant stand, test weight,

grain quality, fast dry down, and the

consistent yields every year.

Our Distributor, Kent Banwart,

provides excellent customer service.

Kent is very helpful, and he makes

himself available whenever we have

questions. He delivers our seed right

to the farm.”

TESTIMONIAL

“I have worked with Tim Butikofer for

40 years buying seed corn. Tim is very

professional and knowledgeable

about the seed products he sells. Last

year I had my best crop ever with

Federal Hybrids 5550 Smart Stax RIB

seed corn which averaged 233

bushels/acre on a 100-acre field.

I also enjoy working with all the

friendly staff. I am amazed at the

tremendous growth Federal Hybrids

is experiencing. This growth tells me

many farmers are placing their trust

in Federal Hybrids’ seed.”

LibertyLink® GT27 Soybeans

Introduction of a new product line for 2019

New cutting-edge traits, technology, and genetics!

LIBERTYLINK® GT27 SYSTEM POSITIONING:

LibertyLink® GT27 system is built on 4 key growing benefits:

1. Unprecedented yield performance from new elite genetics.

2. First soybean technology enabling both Liberty and glyphosate herbicides allow growers to

dial up the post emergency weed control they need in-season.

3. Non-volatile chemistries with fewer restrictions for more flexible and effective weed control

4. Also, tolerant to a new HPPD MOA herbicide for soybeans*, pending EPA approval.

*LibertyLink ® GT27 is not tolerant to all HPPD herbicides. HPPD herbicides currently on the market are prohibited for

use with LibertyLink ® GT27 soybeans and may result in significant crop injury.

TESTIMONIAL

“When it comes to Federal Hybrids

soybeans ... seeing is believing,

starting with excellent seed

quality to superb plant health to

awesome yields. When my

neighbors began asking about

my soybeans, seeing how well

the Roundup Ready 2 Xtend ®

soybeans weed control is working,

and now they are planting them;

I know I am onto something great!

Before Roundup Ready 2 Xtend ®

soybeans, I was losing the weed

battle, but not anymore!”

FEDERAL HYBRIDS® ALFALFA

FEDERAL HYBRIDS

Alfalfa products offer the potential for high yields, excellent forage quality and disease resistance.

HVX RR - HARVXTRA® WITH ROUNDUP READY® TECHNOLOGY

ALFALFA

• Gives growers the ability to better manage the yieldversus-quality

tradeoff. It offers more flexibility in cutting

schedule to achieve improved forage quality or greater

yield potential, when compared to conventional alfalfa at

the same stage of maturity.

• The HarvXtra® technology provides unprecedented

flexibility by widening cutting windows, which gives

growers the option of each cutting for: a) maintain their

normal harvest schedules for higher-quality forage, or b)

delay harvest for 7-10 days for increased yield potential,

without sacrificing forage quality, compared with

conventional alfalfa at the same stage of maturity.

• Averages 12-15% less lignin and 12-15% higher neutral

detergent fiber digestibility (NDFd) and relative forage

quality (RFQ) than conventional alfalfa harvested at the

same stage of maturity.

• Stacked with the Roundup Ready® Technology for

unsurpassed weed control with excellent crop safety.

HERITAGE RR - GENUITY® ROUNDUP READY® ALFALFA

• The new benchmark for alfalfa technology

• High satisfaction rating among users

• Very fast recovery after harvest

• Great forage quality

• Widely adapted throughout the Midwest

• Excellent winter survival and persistence

Heritage RR Alfalfa is the next generation of Genuity® Roundup Ready® Alfalfa and provides improvements to growers using this

technology. Heritage RR offers better winter survival than many Fall Dormant 4 alfalfas on the market. This leads to improved persistence

and better production over the life of the stand. Potential for improved weed control, better crop safety, increased yield, and better

quality forage, make Heritage RR the alfalfa of choice for anyone looking for value in their alfalfa. Grower satisfaction is very high and

acres planted to this type of alfalfa continues to increase throughout the United States. This variety is the first choice for growers looking

for top production or who commercially produce hay. If you like Roundup Ready® corn and soybeans, you will like Heritage RR alfalfa. If

you are worried about weed resistance, consider that alfalfa is cut 3 to 5 times a year and those weeds will be clipped off that many times

during the season. Plant Heritage RR alfalfa and take advantage of the freedom to harvest weed-free hay the first crop.

FLAGSHIP ALFALFA - QUALITY ALFALFA

• Selected for high resistance to Aphanomyces Race II

• Performs well with or without APH II pressure

• Leading alfalfa with wide adaptation

• Excellent winter survival and persistence

• Excellent yield and quality potential

• Very fast recovery after harvest

• Adapted for 3, 4 or 5 cut system

HIGH RESISTANCE TO

APHANOMYCES RACE II

Flagship Alfalfa provides a combination of top production with high resistance to Aphanomyces root rot Race II (APH II). This leading

alfalfa will please growers by its resilience, high yield potential, forage quality and dark green color. Strengths of Flagship Alfalfa

include strong offense with excellent defense against all the major alfalfa diseases – including APH II. Place this alfalfa on fields where

history has shown difficulty in establishing alfalfa because of pressure from APH II and wet springtime weather. It will even shine

under ideal conditions on good ground without heavy disease pressure. This is an all-around solid alfalfa.
