PRO-SPORT 3000 HISTORY by Rainer Nyberg
The Pro-Sport 3000 series was conceived during 1991 as a spec-car entry-level sportscar series for both
clubman drivers and semi-professional teams. Businessman Chris Taylor saw a need for this kind of a
relatively lowcost sportscar series during the early 1990s. Unfortunately the world economy was in turmoil
and they grids never went into double figures during 1992. Chief designer Arthur Griffin was recruited from
March to design a car with 'Group C' looks. Cosworth Engineering supplied the 24-valve DOHC V6 engine. The
modified Ford Scorpio unit was rated at 300 hp. There would be no need to touch the relatively low-stressed
engine for the entire season. The first car was available from the Pro-Sport Engineering shop in Bicester
during the autumn of 1991. A bargain £50.000 would get you a car for the 1992 series. The series got off to a
slow start with only seven cars on the grid for the initial race at Snetterton in May '92. The series grew
stronger during the decade, but never reached 20 car grids. The grids were about 10-15 cars for much of the
series. The last Pro Sport championship was held in 1997. A Spyder was also planned and the Spyderprototype
ran at Daytona in '97 with Nigel Greensall, Peter Hardman, Mike Millard and Kevin Sherwood drove
the Spyder to 33th position. For '98 the series was renamed Sportscar LM3000 and for '99 the cars raced in
the BRSCC Open Sportscar Series.
