No Bake Granola Bites Ingredients: 1 cup crispy rice cereal (like Rice Krispies) 1 cup creamy peanut butter 1 cup ground flaxseed 1 cup mini chocolate chips 2/3 cup honey or agave nectar 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 2 tablespoons coconut oil Method: Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, mixing gently so cereal doesn’t get crushed. Mix until wellcombined. Using a cookie scoop (or roll small amounts in your hands), drop rounded tablespoonful-sized portions onto a parchment- or waxpaper-lined cooking sheet. Roll into balls. Refrigerate for one to two hours before serving. They can be stored in an airtight container or zip-close bags in a refrigerator for up to one week or frozen for two to three months. Baked Sweet Potato Chips Ingredients: 1 large sweet potato 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/4 teaspoon salt Method: Preheat oven to 225 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the sweet potato in thin slices using a mandolin. Place slices on baking sheet, brush with oil and season with salt. Cheryl Collins, Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Public Affairs 2018 A 2003 graduate of Dr. Phillips High School and an Orlando native served in the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise, Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC). Lt. Cmdr. Craig Dobson, a 2007 graduate of the University of Florida, typically spends his drill weekends as a Navy reserve sailor at Navy Operational Support Center Denver in the Undersea Warfare Operations Detachment. However, he recently completed work at RIMPAC for Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, ensuring the safety and operability of the submarines that participated in the exercise. Dobson, who is a submarine warfare officer, knows a thing or two about submarines. He previously served five years on active duty, spending much of his time on the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Asheville (SSN-758). During RIMPAC, he served in the Maritime Operations Center as a watchstander, filling a role similar to what air traffic control does for air operations, but for submarines. “I remember being on the boat and talking through communications to our counterparts on shore,” Dobson said about his time on Asheville. “One of those shorebased watchstanders is the theater anti-submarine watch officer; that’s what I do now as a reservist.
