SELWYN TIMES Latest Christchurch news at Wednesday August 15 2018 11 News Lincoln skate park INTERNATIONAL Comedy Night Lincoln Event Centre SATURDAY 6 OCTOBER ready for action following redesign ON SALE NOW THE LINCOLN Domain Skate Park is now open to the public and ready for action. District council property and commercial manager Douglas Marshall said the redesign of the skate park achieves the initial goal of being a quality facility where younger skaters and scooter riders can rapidly progress, learn and have fun. “The council is grateful for the support of the community while the changes were being made,” Mr Marshall said. “We understand that locals have had to be really patient while we get the skate park right. However, we’re confident locals will really enjoy this new facility.” The changes to the skate park’s design were also influenced by discussions with skaters and other skate park designers. “We’ve actively listened to the community’s ideas and have incorporated some of these into the new design,” Mr Marshall said. An official opening of the skate park will be held on Sunday, from 11am to 1pm. The event, hosted by skating retailer Cheapskates, will include music, food, spot prizes skateboarding demonstrations and lessons on skate park etiquette. The Lincoln Community Committee will also assist with the event on the day. While the skate park is ready to use, contractors will be on site this week to do some minor work. District council community projects and facilities manager Cam Warr said this will include the final shaping and completion of the retaining wall, and fencing will also be installed above one of the bowls. “Our contractors will continue to be on site to do some detail work, but the areas being worked on will be coned off and the skate park will be safe for everyone to use,” he said. Mr Warr said the district council wants to stay in touch with local skaters and is open to receiving feedback about the new skate park. The Lincoln Reserve playground is also open after it was relocated to the southern side of the path while the skate park was being redesigned. •If you have feedback on the skate park or want more information, email Cam Warr on BOWL: The Lincoln Domain Skate Park is open after being redesigned. Power poles on Rolleston footpath only temporary PLACING: The positioning of power poles along Lincoln Rolleston Rd have caused concern. • By Emily O’Connell IF YOU’RE confused about these power poles being in the footpath, don’t worry, it’s not permanent. Concerns have been raised over the positioning of the poles on Lincoln Rolleston Rd on the Rolleston Community Page on Facebook. “Sums up Rolleston’s layout designs in general,” one person said. “Wow, I think school kids could have designed that better. Crazy,” another wrote. “Better than no footpath though,” a person commented. District council asset manager transportation Andrew Mazey said the positioning along the development of the Falcon’s Landing and Branthwaite subdivisions is temporary and “is in an effort to speed up the removal of the speed restrictions along the road.” “The staging and construction of the frontage upgrades is providing some challenges involving two developers and private property that is not currently being developed,” he said. Mr Mazey said new LED street lighting poles will be installed and power cables will run underground. He said the new foot and cycle pathway will be positioned to avoid the new light poles and other upgrades to be installed. “In terms of the time frame to remove the existing power poles, the developers are waiting on the lines company to programme the work,” Mr Mazey said. In the meantime, he said the district council has asked the developers to improve the marking of the power poles to make sure they are very visible to pathway users. - A great place to retire One-bedroomed apartment now available to purchase Secure your new home today! • Bright, new and luxurious • Designed with your comfort in mind • Little balcony with a fantastic view of the gardens • Care packages available to purchase • Occupation right agreement Our weekly fee is locked in for life Call today for more information on our one-bedroomed apartment.
