NEWS 16 PAGES • ONE DOLLAR Putting a new Face(book) on the schools By Thor Jourgensen Lynnfield Weekly Editor Five minutes into discussing how to create a school district Facebook page and social media policy last Wednesday, Superintendent Jane Tremblay and two School Committee members grasped the magnitude of their task. “We are building something from the ground up here,” said Committee member Richard Sjoberg. Sjoberg and fellow member Dorothy Presser are School Committee social media subcommittee members and they agreed with Tremblay that constructing a page and policy means defining social media guidelines and the framing content ideas. In their first discussion on the subject, the trio looked at other school district policies for guidance; in particular, the Dedham school district’s with its definitions and mission statements that caught Tremblay’s attention. The town’s policy references “Internet posting for the sole purpose of furthering the district’s mission” and refers to giving students “graduated freedoms” to engage more on social media.
