If the church climate conditions are uncomfortable, they notify the Trustees to adjust AC or Heat; pass out fans as necessary. 6) Ushers should always be alert for any emergency that should arise so that they can provide prompt assistance. 7) Ushers often prepare the church for services and special events, ensuring that ample bibles and hymnals are available for the congregation's use, if applicable. They also return bibles and hymnals to their proper locations. 8) For special events, ushers may rope off reserved seats or parking spaces. After services, ushers walk the pews to pick up trash. 9) Ushers ensure that all visitors have an opportunity to hear and enjoy the sermon without distractions. They may ask a disruptive churchgoer to step outside of the sanctuary or direct a mother with a crying child to a special area for babies. 5. Church Nurse a. Accountable: Pastor and Board of Deacons b. Function: Facilitate care for the congregation as needed. c. Selection: Volunteer d. Qualifications: Trained & certified in CPR, First Aid & AED. Certifications must be up to date. (Certification for professionals such as RN's, LVN's, MA's & CNA's, is required). Duties: 1) Maintain a health room. 2) Provide support to the Ushers during Church service, Only If Called Upon. 3) Assist at funerals, if needed. 4) A church nurse may act as a health educator, a referral source or liaison with the community; educate or facilitate the education of volunteers; or provide information on the interrelationship between faith and health. Church nurses organize health fairs, provide caregiver training and educate congregation members about ethical and moral health issues and provide first aid to the ill or injured. Note: Remember that crowd control is most important when attending to the needs of a person who becomes ill in the Congregation. Try to remove the person away from the crowd soon and as quietly as possible. 6. Ministry Chairperson a. Accountable: Pastor, Board of Deacons and Congregation b. Function: Oversee/facilitate the activities of the specified auxiliary. c. Selection: By members of the Ministry a. Duties: The Ministry Chairperson should be present at all designated meetings and be prepared to make a report as designated. If a Ministry Chairperson cannot be present, he/she should have a representative at the meeting to make the report. 7. Conducting Church Business Meetings a.
