At Wickham & Taylor we take great pride in

This optimises their shelf life and ensures that

they reach you in the best condition they can

We’re passionate about giving you a

memorable experience, whether you’re

popping in for a last minute bunch of flowers

or sitting down to plan your wedding.

Whatever you come to us for, the service is

the same.

On 3rd October 2015 we were hard at work at

The George Hotel in Haversedge, Derbyshire.

We dressed the chairs and decorated the

table with a long runner; complete with tall

candelabras and flowers. The flowers had been

made into posies so that the guests could take

these away as gifts following the wedding.

We left the venue with all the chairs

immaculately dressed and prepared for the

arrival of the Wedding party.

We had put the finishing touches to the church

and set off travelling home when we received

a call from the hotel. The couple had been

informed that a guest who they had previously

thought couldn’t make it was in fact coming to

the wedding.

An extra chair was needed...

We were around 10 miles away at this point so

they insisted it didn’t matter and they would

put an undressed chair in themselves.

We imagined what the room would look like...

One uncovered chair would spoil the overall

effect when the bride and groom arrived on

their special day.

With 40 minutes before the wedding party

were due to arrive, we turned the van around

and returned to the hotel just in time to dress

the extra chair. We left satisfied that we had

done everything in our power to make this

lovely couple’s day.

“I just want to say how fantastic

everything looked on Saturday! It was

a lovely surprise to us both walking in.

Everything seemed to come together

perfectly, both at the church and at

the hotel - we couldn’t have asked for

more and the guests loved it too!”

Faye came to see me shortly after we opened the

shop. We discussed her vision for the wedding

flowers, the colours she liked and the ‘just

picked’ look for her bouquet. She also wanted

to incorporate some personal items into her

bouquet and the other floral arrangements.

I sat with Faye on a number of occasions and

we talked about the smallholding she has which

housed various birds including ducks. Faye also

grew wheat and thought that it would be a good

idea to include some of that as well. She brought

along two brooches that were very sentimental to

her, which she decided she would like to include

in some way. The designs and ideas started to

take shape including how we could incorporate

all the items that were personal to her.

The day of the wedding came and we delivered

Faye’s flowers. We incorporated all of her

requests, wiring in one of her brooches, with the

second used on the flower binding ribbon. Faye

and all the wedding party were overwhelmed

by our work.

Last Christmas and Valentine’s day, Faye’s

husband came into the shop to order flowers

for her. His request was that they were similar

colours to her wedding bouquet as she had said

that they were the most perfect flowers she had

ever seen. We duly produced similar bouquets

complete with peacock feathers!

In early 2017, I was contacted by a client who

was getting married in Cheshire. They had

found us on the internet and were interested

in coming to discuss their floral arrangements.

Initially, I was unsure whether we would travel

that far to dress the wedding. The venue was

Peckforton Castle. The moment I saw it online

I immediately thought, ‘I have to dress that

venue, it is a dream and a personal challenge

to me.’

into the arrangements. The chair sashes were

the exact colour of Bradford City and Simon

had a mustard Calla Lily buttonhole to bring

in the other colour of his favourite team. The

hotel staff were so complimentary of our work

and said that the couple had spoken to so

many florists who could not create their vision

and were over the moon that they had found

us.

On the evening of our meeting, the groom

walked into our consultation room and ‘threw’

a Bradford City football scarf at me and said,

“I want those colours incorporating, whilst still

giving Debbie her dream of a romantic, elegant

wedding.” Almost immediately I knew what

they wanted and excitedly discussed what we

could do for them. I worked with them over

the following months to bring their dream to

life.

The week before the wedding arrived,

hundreds of flowers were delivered and all

had to be adequately prepared before I could

even start on the arrangements. It took me a

full day to prepare the flowers, plus another

two full days to prepare the arrangements. We

had booked a two night stay in a local inn and

arrived in Cheshire at 9:30pm, the evening

before the wedding. We were up at 04:00am

and duly drove to Peckforton Castle to dress

the wedding.

The finished look was spectacular; I had

designed a white and ivory base with the

Bradford City claret incorporated delicately

“We decided on Wickham & Taylor

to dress our wedding venue and they

didn’t disappoint us. They made us feel

comfortable from the moment we met.

Carole could see what we were looking

for even though we didn’t have the

vision in the beginning.

The bits of information that we gave

Carole helped her to give us the

magical, elegant look we were aiming

for. On the day, the hard work of both

Carole and Martin was clear to see

and noticed by our guests, who also

gave us lovely compliments.

Thank you so much for helping us

achieve our dream!”
