Delicacies to unveil

Ticino is home to an exceptional variety of landscapes. In the north you
will find towering mountains and deep valleys carved by glaciers and
rivers, whose waters flow into Lake Maggiore in the south.
The central-southern region is the land of the lakes, with clear skies
and a mild climate, hotels, piazzas and gardens, villages stretched along
lake shores or perched on hillsides, and campaniles basking in the
sunshine.
In the south, you are already in the Mediterranean region. The
southernmost point of the triangle, the Mendrisiotto, is notable for its
serene tranquillity, its expansive landscapes, its gentle hills scattered
with houses and fields, and its glowing sunsets on mild October
evenings.
The towns and cities also have plenty of pleasures to offer – from
sipping a cappuccino on the celebrated Piazza Grande of Locarno to
sampling the cultural attractions in Bellinzona and shopping among the
historic alleyways of Lugano. Characteristic of all of Ticino’s towns is
the agreeable atmosphere that surrounds you as you stroll among the
historic buildings, across bustling piazzas and through gardens in

Arrival by train to Mendrisio Station and walk to the village
A gentle stroll to the Cantina Sociale for a tour and some wine tasting
The Cantina Sociale di Mendrisio was founded in 1949 in an area with a strong
winemaking tradition and a wealth of historical, artistic and natural forms of
expression. It is the only cooperative in the Canton of Ticino.

Visit the workshop and taste the typical products of the Muggio Valley
The Muggio Valley is regarded as one of the most authentic areas in the canton of
Ticino, with its tradition still vital and intact. Among the products characteristic
of this sunny valley are several special types of cheese, including “Formaggini” and
“Zincarlin”.
Continue the walk towards the Grotto Bundi
The story of the Grotto Bundi is almost a secular one. In the more authentic
frame of the Ticino, more than 80 years ago, a certain Abbondio Calderari opens
the antique Grotto, where his name is linked to in the dialectal form of “Bundi”. It
is a journey to rediscover the flavours of the past, where the polenta, cooked in
the fireplace, is proposed in countless varieties along with game, meat and
mushrooms.
