Starmakers Newsletter August 2018 2017/2018 has been such an eventful year for Starmakers Youth Theatre. In January children performed their full-length NODA production of Beauty and the Beast. It was a huge success, and all involved had a superb time. So many parents and grandparents helped and donated their time so a huge thanks to all. The next Panto rehearsals will begin in September. Our Summer Show took place for the first time in the Methodist Church and we had our best turn out yet. From our tiny Ballerinas to our Senior Youth Theatre, all performed routines they had been perfecting throughout the term! In other news, Morwenna (Group Leader) has been studying at the British Ballet Organisations HQ this year. She would like to thank all parents and students for such a huge amount of support and say a massive thank you! We are delighted to announce she has achieved a first in the highest dance teaching qualification there is, Level Six Extended Teaching Diploma. Our final piece of unbelievably exciting news really should have a drum roll…… Amos Maryland, a student at Starmakers Youth Theatre and private voice student Morwenna Gee has landed a lead roll in……..The School of Rock…...West End!!!!! The roll is Zack Mooneyham and Amos has moved to London for summer rehearsals and will be on stage from August 20th, 2018. This is such an incredible achievement as the other children cast are all from performing arts schools! We are planning a road trip in the Autumn for his Youth Theatre Classmates to go and watch him on stage! Thank you so much for everyone's continued support, the Summer School is happening again this year, with an outdoor production of The Secret Garden at Helland Barton Farm, Delabole. Exciting exhibition opportunity Are you a local artist? We are looking for local artists of all levels from amateur, hobby and professional to come forward and exhibit their work with us. - We only charge 25% commission on sales all of which goes back into developing the art and art exhibitions at Royal Cornwall Hospitals. - All sales are handled on the artist’s behalf by our general offices and we pay artists at the end of the exhibition. - Any sales go through the booking office at the end of the exhibition. - Exhibitions are for a minimum of 3 months. - We have three corridor galleries - two at Royal Cornwall Hospital and one at West Cornwall Hospital. - The galleries have an extremely high footfall, and artists regularly sell their work from them. - The works hung should be sensitive to the hospital environment. - The hanging system is secure and lockable to prevent theft. Psalm 33:8-9 King James Bible From Mary Haydon (Courtesy of ‘Improving Working Lives’) If you happen to be at The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro before the end of October, you may see twenty one of my paintings, pen and ink drawings or pastel pieces in the Link Corridor of the Tower Block. This is work done in Delabole and Bristol over sixty-six years, some winning first, second or third prizes judged by the late Biddy Holden in the Delabole Horticultural Show. Some of my very early work has been lost over the years. The first, painted at fourteen years of age of my then sick father, aged sixty-seven, sleeping in his red velvet wing chair, was kept back by me. I didn’t think it appropriate to exhibit in a hospital. My largest and latest one, about five feet square, was too large to put in the car, but was in the Show in Delabole last year. Painted from a photograph I took forty year ago. It is of a Punch and Judy spectator group, watching anxiously which was quite revealing to me as I painted it too. Within a few minutes three people, including a member of the theatre staff, a sick patient and her visitor showed interest, taking a phone picture, asking to purchase (but not for sale) and theatre staff saying lovely to see the colour on the walls.
