Temple of Apollo<br />

The temple of Apollo is the oldest build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>Pompeii</strong> which is one of the supreme examples of<br />

architectural changes that took place with<strong>in</strong> the phase it was constructed (6th century B.C.E.) and<br />

destroyed (79 C.E.). The authentic Etruscan design was restored by the Greeks and was later used and<br />

dissem<strong>in</strong>ated by Romans. Majority of bronze statues found <strong>in</strong> the temple were transferred to Naples<br />

Museums.


The House of Vettii<br />

House of Vettii is one of the most preserved villas <strong>in</strong> the city. It is located on the western side of <strong>Pompeii</strong><br />

and was renovated after the earthquake <strong>in</strong> 62 C.E. The villa was built to serve the rich owners and<br />

enterta<strong>in</strong> guests <strong>in</strong> several rooms, surround<strong>in</strong>g the ma<strong>in</strong> yard. Elaborate statues, luxurious founta<strong>in</strong>s,<br />

and water bas<strong>in</strong>s filled the gap between the columns. Many of the orig<strong>in</strong>al statues and antiques, found<br />

here, were restored to their orig<strong>in</strong>al state for the visitors.<br />

Lupanar<br />

Lupanar is one of the most visited parts of <strong>Pompeii</strong>. It was the largest brothel <strong>in</strong> the ancient city. It<br />

conta<strong>in</strong>s small rooms with m<strong>in</strong>imum furnish<strong>in</strong>gs and a brick platform with mattress that served as beds.<br />

Many of these rooms have wall pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs that depict sexual acts. Archeologists have also discovered<br />

Roman graffiti.<br />

The Forum<br />

The forum is a rectangular, open area which is located <strong>in</strong> the city center. It served as a cultural,<br />

commercial and political center of the city. The forum also used to host market, courthouse, bathhouse,<br />

and temples. Even after the devastation of a significant part of the build<strong>in</strong>gs, a few support<strong>in</strong>g pillars still<br />

stand and display the impressive beauty. Once you are at the Forum, you can easily imag<strong>in</strong>e the hustle<br />

and bustle of the ancient Roman lives.<br />
