SAMUI

AS GOOD AS GOLD

Congratulations are in order for the 88-villa

resort Banyan Tree Samui, recently recognised

as the first and only resort in Thailand to be

given a “Gold Certification” by EarthCheck.

As the leading organisation for scientific

benchmarking and the world’s certification

and advisory group for travel and tourism,

EarthCheck gave the luxury hotel the highest

level recognition award as soon as it met with

excellence standards in ten key performance areas.

The green certification process assesses

greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency,

management of freshwater resources, ecosystem

conservation and management, management

of social and cultural issues, land use planning

and management, air quality protection and

noise control, wastewater management,

solid waste management, and storage of

environmentally harmful substances.

The Banyan Tree Samui, nestled against

a lush 38-acre hillside, overlooks a secluded

cove of beach. With their green certification,

guests are encouraged to join in their sustainable

ecotourism activities, such as walking along

a nature trail for bird-watching, along with

participation in a coral regeneration project.

SINGAPORE

80S POP REVIVAL

Two of the biggest female pop icons from

the 1980s will perform together on stage at

the Lion City this September. Far from being

rivals, pop princesses Tiffany and Debbie

Gibson will unite in Singapore for a once-in-alifetime

concert, where they will belt out their

signature hits. The Smash Hits Concert will see

the duo perform their sing-along hits, which

topped the global music charts in that era.

Both stars broke into the music scene

in their teens with Tiffany riding the charts

high with hit songs, ‘All This Time’ and her

chart-topping hit, ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’.

Gibson became a worldwide sensation at only

17 with her high energy pop singles ‘Only In

My Dreams’, ‘Shake Your Love’ and ‘Out of The

Blue’. For fans of 80s pop, this one-night only

performance is a rare opportunity to see these

two icons on the stage for the first time in

Asia. The Star Theatre Singapore, thestar.sg
