MENU
previous year and is now one of the biggest,
Duchess of Cornwall and famous faces from the
restaurant world along with major supermarkets,
pub groups, schools and Young Farmers.
CHICHESTER
With sandy and shingle beaches, scenic countryside, fishing villages and family attractions,
the West Sussex cathedral city of Chichester has much to offer, including its close proximity
to England’s wine producing region!
Not just for the patriotic, English sparkling
wine is getting lots of people excited and
with an estimate of 10 million bottles to
be produced in England and Wales by
2020, demand is definitely on the rise.
With the cost of land cheaper here than
the champagne region, French producers
are sniffing around British soil as sales of
Champagne in Britain begin to fall and sales
in English sparkling wines increase.
Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Lucian Freud, Ben
Nicholson, Eduardo Paolozzi, John Piper
and Graham Sutherland are on display. Two
major exhibitions are also running, one on
British Pop Art and direct from Tate St Ives,
an exhibition inspired by the writings of
Virginia Woolf.
Not only is now a particularly good time to
buy British, it’s an excellent time to enjoy
a vineyard tour and taste trip! The region
offers a couple of vineyards to experience
with Denbies Vineyard the oldest and
offering tours and tastings all year round.
Fans of Modern British art will want to make
Located in a corner of the old RAF Tangmere
airfield, Tangmere Military Aviation
Museum showcases historic aircraft and
memorabilia from the First World War to
the Cold War and will keep aviation fans
content with a very informative journey
back in time.
time for the Pallant Art Gallery, regarded as
one of the best galleries outside of London.
Important works by Frank Auerbach, Peter
Continue to turn the clock back with a visit
to Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens
where the country’s largest collection of
Roman mosaics and the earliest garden
will impress.
Back in the sky and Hawking About offers
visitors a fantastic time with either a two
hour walk with hawks through stunning
woodland or a sunset stroll flying owls.
Visitors are given their own falconry
gauntlet and have lots of opportunities to
interact with the hawks and owls, flying
and feeding. A knowledgeable falconer
adds to the experience; his passion
and relationship with the birds of prey
is infectious.
Take a picnic to the tranquil and scenic
Bosham Quay or tuck into afternoon tea in
one of the lovely cafés or enjoy a refreshing
pint in one of the pubs. Pretty cottages, a
quaint old church, a craft centre selling
local wares and antiques, and super views
over the seafront and the village make it
very easy to lose yourself for several
hours at this quaint working quay.
Quite possibly the country’s greatest
sporting estate, Goodwood is famous
for the Festival of Speed, the Qatar
Goodwood Festival (Glorious Goodwood)
and the Goodwood Revival. If you’re not
in Chichester when these key sporting
events are held, there are fantastic
experience days available; championship
golf, track side spin and slide sessions,
and hot lap experiences, or take to the
skies for a flight in a state-of-the-art Cessna
followed by lunch in the former Old Control
Tower Café at the aerodrome.
For leisure time on the water, Wingate
is available for both private charters and
public trips around the harbour. Perfect
for bird and seal spotting, it’s a couple of
hours of gentle cruising onboard a former
lifeboat which helped rescue marines
when the Sir Galahad was bombed in the
Falklands War. Alternatively, splash down in
Chichester Water Sports where a 40 acre
freshwater lake is home to water skiing,
kayaking, wake boarding, paddle boarding,
an inflatable aqua park (which guarantees
an hour of adrenaline fuelled activities!)
or jump on the inflatable banana boat for a
high speed splash ending!
Fans of two wheels should take to the 12
miles of Saltern Way Cycle Route which
starts in Winchester, along dedicated
cycle routes as well as country lanes and
a few roads before concluding in the sand
dunes of East Head.
Whether you time your Chichester stay
to make the most of sunny seaside days
or opt for an autumnal break bursting
with arts and culture, we have a superb
collection of hotels to suit all budgets.
