24-Hour Party
A 24-hour music venue hits Canning Town to liven up the London scene.
FOLD is your new destination to discover and enjoy dance music talent. The
First Dance launching party hit the right note with, what has been described
as, a friendly atmosphere and experimental sounds. Events coming up
across September will be hosted by the Whities, ILIAN TAPE and Pinkman
record labels.
FOLD is a collectively run audio-visual performance space and studio
complex nestled in an industrial wasteland.
Founded by a group of eclectic artists, DJs and party people, FOLD is a never
seen before, organically built venue and creative space with a 600 capacity
24 hour dance floor. The music collective is situated above a print factory
on an industrial estate between Canning Town and Star Lane with a second
room opening later this year. Benefiting from 24 hour access to the Jubilee
line and London Overground, the space sits within a non-residential location,
giving the tailored soundsystem (un)limited at 110DB and a bottom end of
32hz the freedom to fill the main room which is complete with lighting to
rival venues twice it’s size.
"FOLD presents an uncompromising schedule of forward-thinking
electronic music. Veering away from the regular 4 to the floor, we offer a
12 www.AudationMagazine.com
smorgasbord of alien sounds from the unknown. 24 hour events generally
take place on Saturdays, Fridays we go till late and mid week live events
are till 3am. Our opening season includes label takeovers from Ilian Tape,
Clone & Pinkman, with a carefully curated selection of headliners supported
by FOLD crew. The 24hr programme gives us a unique opportunity to
surprise, challenge and inspire. Expect extended set times, obscure b2bs
and a generally more expansive pallet of sounds over the course of one
event.” Lasha Jorjoliani (Voicedrone), FOLD co-founder
FOLD evokes a rave renaissance; its focus on inclusivity, togetherness &
dancing is demonstrated in the clubs code on respect. As part of this, FOLD
has a no photo policy. The music programme reflects the most progressive
electronic sounds from the UK and beyond.
“London, unlike other leading European cities such as Berlin or Amsterdam,
has struggled in recent times. Gentrifying forces has put huge pressures
on artists and musicians, with many leaving as a result. Licensed venues,
which is where artists and DJs are predominantly able to earn their living
have come under attack. What we have created at FOLD is a new home,
tucked away from the pressures of the city, a place where you can listen to
extended sets on a tuned soundsystem tailored to the specifications of the
room to maximise the experience of the space. We strive to do things
differently in London, cultivating a more continental approach, creating a
place where you can spend extended periods or coming and going as you
please. We welcome All Races. All Religions. All Genders. All Countries of
Origin. All Sexual Orientations.. Our focus is creating a safe space that is
disconnected from the intense pressures of London life, that allows freedom
of expression, positivity and inspiration to take form." Seb Glover, FOLD cofounder

Eskuche
Audiation magazine has always been
about keeping our ears to the ground,
looking at break-through acts and
trying to have our noses poking
around in the right places sniffing out
what’s hot and fresh on the
underground scene. It was 3 years
ago when we had our attention drawn
to a New York based duo by the name
of Eskuche & Nu Sky. This was around
the time when the boys had begun
to make that step up from local circuit
DJs to recognized DJ/Producers
across the world. As a duo they racked
up releases on acclaimed labels such
as Material, Viva LTD, Lost Records &
Hot Creations, just to name a few, and
it was their distinctive drum-based
groovey dancefloor sound that
began to build them well deserved
recognition. The past couple of years
have no doubt been a journey for the
guys, with both guys taking time to
work on new solo projects, notably
Eskuche delivering a number of
releases on respected labels such as
Elrow, Jesse Perez’s imprint Mr Nice
Guy, Repopulate Mars and a big new
EP due for release on Hot Creations
this October. We manage to catch up
with Eskuche ahead of his upcoming
gig in his home town of New York City
for Jamie Jones’ Paradise.
Easy bro, how’s tricks, all good no
doubt? It’s been about 3 years since
the last time you spoke to Audiation
Magazine and since then you’ve
been racking up the air miles and
have begun a lot more on solo
projects as ‘Eskuche’. Where in the
world are you now & what’s been
going on since we last spoke?
In the last 3 years things changed
completely for me, in a good way. I’ve
done some amazing solo releases on
labels like Repopulate Mars, Elrow,
Mr. Nice guy, Deeperfect and many
more. Also I played some cool gigs
with Elrow, toured South America and
Russia playing Schimasnki, Output
and spending now my 2nd season in
Ibiza as an Ibiza talents resident.
Seeing some of the biggest DJs
supporting my music really inspired
me for more. I’ve some big stuff
coming soon.
You’ve spoken in the past about your
memories of Ibiza, and about how
magical and inspirational the island
is. Ibiza is constantly changing and
growing but last year you spent the
season living on the island through
the summer, how did you find it and
was the magic still there for you?
I think Ibiza is all about balance, you
need to take time off sometimes from
the parties and just enjoy life on this
magical island. Drive in to some
hidden beaches, eat in nice and not
so popular places, go for a walk and
just enjoy simple things.
Any memorable moments that left
you fully motivated to get straight
in the studio or inspired the way

you play music that you wish to
share with our readers?
I always try to start something after
I come home from the party, I try to
capture some inspiration from a
night. At least an idea, then next day
I like to work on it properly. I’ve
discovered that its then, after I’ve
woken up, that I feel at my most
productive.
Your favourite party on the island?
Of course it is Paradise. I’ve been
going there almost every week and
the vibe is always incredible. I really
like the new place in Playa Den Bossa
“El Patio”, I played there for Ibiza
Talents and it was great. Originally it
started as an after party for Music On
on Saturdays. Also the Elrow parties
are super dope, especially the one in
Ushuaia which was off the hook.
Great show. I’ve also been digging
day parties like Rumors at Destino
and Blue Marlin.
Your upcoming release on Hot
Creations, the ‘Activator’ EP, is
looking at being a massive release.
The videos of Jamie Jones and the
likes of him smashing the track out
are incredible. What was the idea
behind that track?
I started this track right after Paradise
closing last year. The idea was to
make something underground with
a DC10 terrace vibe. I’d finished it
before the Music On closing party
and my friend Leon was the first who
played it there on the terrace. This
was special for me, to see it played a
few hours after I finished it. I knew
after that this track will do the
business. Its been really amazing to
see how this track was picked up so
quickly by big artists like Jamie Jones,
Darius Syrossian, Leon, Detlef,
Latmun and lots of people have been
asking me about this tune. I’m really
happy to release it with Hot Creations
as an EP along with my track “Pleasure
Beat”. October will be massive.
When it comes to producing tracks
do you have to get yourself in a
certain mind set? What’s the process
for you?
As I mentioned above I like to capture
some ideas after parties. Sometimes
inspiration comes in different forms,
groove on mind or a bassline you
remember or some nice vocals you
really wanna use. But also I think its
18 www.AudationMagazine.com

all about discipline as well, you just
need to sit down and get sh*t done.
This September you join Jamie
Jones, Art Department, Nathan
Barato & Omar S in your hometown
for Paradise NYC. A totally sick line
up. How do you think it will compare
to Paradise Ibiza?
This is absolutely a dream come true,
I’ve been wanting to play Paradise
since day one and now I’m happy its
happening in the place I call home
for the last 8 years. The venue
Brooklyn Mirage is absolutely next
level. I’ve really never seen anything
like this, 6000 people capacity
outdoor venue, with palm trees, crazy
lights and installations. Perfect for
Paradise vibe.

Choose Love
Fill up your bellies and then dance until dawn at Pikes, Ibiza on 4 September.
The new CHOOSE LOVE annual charity event launches it’s first party which will
be fuelled by love, Syrian cuisine and good music. Hosted by Help Refugees,
the night is in aid of supporting refugees across Europe and the Middle East,
with refugee Imad Alarnab cooking at the Syrian supper club for the first
portion of the night.
A community of artists, DJ’s and chefs have joined forces to launch a new,
annual ‘Choose Love’ charity night at Pikes, Ibiza. The new collaboration
between charity Help Refugees and iconic hotel & club space Pikes will launch
this summer, all to raise funds for people caught up in the current refugee
crisis.
Help Refugees’ friend and supporter Imad Alarnab, a famous Syrian refugee
chef, will be cooking a three-course Syrian feast at the start of the evening,
inviting customers to ‘experience the true taste of Syria’.
Exclusive artworks, curated by Print Club London, from renowned artists,
including Rob Ryan, Noel Fielding and Mr Bingo will be exhibited throughout
Pikes’ famous venue space and available to purchase at the event.
As the evening turns to night, we head into the legendary club space at Pikes
“Freddie’s” (formerly Freddie Mercury’s bedroom) and dance until dawn with a
hand picked lineup of some of Pikes’ favourite electronic DJs.
Choose Love also welcome Mixmag's notorious Lab series to Pikes. Mixmag's
flagship musical output has played host to the likes of: Nightmares on Wax,
Hot Since 82, Nastia, Carl Craig and many more and if their 2017 Lab Ibiza lineup
was anything to go by, they're bound to have something very special up
their sleeve once again.
“We’re incredibly excited to partner with iconic hotel and club Pikes to bring
both our message of love and Syrian chef Imad (and his legendary food) to the
party island. Together with an incredible range of artists and DJs, we’re
creating a party with a purpose. We can’t wait to bring Choose Love to Ibiza.”

TRACK OF THE MONTH:
The Chainsmokers f t Emily Warren - Side
Effects
A great new funky, pop house direction from The
Chainsmokers. A funky, amped-up bassline intro drops
in a melodic guitar's and string-led retro pop house
track. A really catchy vocal from Emily Warren who,
in her own right, is one of the most talented singer/
songwriter's right now in the music industry, writing
hits for almost every major pop star out there including
Bebe Rexha, Sigrid, Sean Paul, Little Mix, and writing
one of the biggest hits of 2017 ‘New Rules’ for Dua
Lipa. Side effects also comes complete with a great
upbeat, feel-good, retro style video featuring actress
Camila Mendes from USA tv series Riverdale. It seems
The Chainsmokers have left their "future bass" style
from a couple years back to one side for now, but let's
not forget they did make their name from out and out
EDM (USA style EDM) with the love it or hate it marmite
breakthrough track ‘Selfie’, so they are no strangers
to the more four to the floor club dance sound. I’m
personally waiting in anticipation and looking forward
to which direction The Chainsmokers decide to go
next. All of the top electronic artists, and pop singing
artists in general, always have the skill and mindset
to reinvent themselves. Calvin Harris, Kygo and Martin
Garrix being prime examples of this recently. Side
Effects is definitey one of the hits of the summer in
my opinion.

Save Music In Schools
It is common knowledge that the arts are not considered
enough in the educational systems. The core subjects are
given more focus and creativity is not encouraged as much as
it could be. Schools could be cautious to invest more into the
arts too, thus limiting the facilities students have to be
creative. Music technology company Steinberg is attempting
to change this by gifting schools with their Dorico Elements
software and uniting talented minds through a composition
collaboration challenge - #ComposeWithDorico.
Around 100 schools across the country will be gifted Dorico
Elements, the music notation software that helps users write,
print and play back music to a high professional standard. In
return, schools will be tasked with producing a short piece of
music using the software, which will be compiled by music
experts to create the most collaborative piece of music of all
time. The piece will then be performed at a special concert
later in the year.
“There’s a lot to gain from music, and not just the enjoyment
listening and playing brings. In fact, it’s proven that music
can also help with improvements in language abilities and
self-confidence, as well as increasing concentration and
empathy… Dorico is committed to supporting musicians at
every level and we hope this campaign will not only spark
the public’s imagination, but get people making music
together.” Daniel Spreadbury, Steinberg spokesperson.
According to research produced by Sussex University’s
School of Education and Social Work, unless concerted action
is taken, music education in secondary schools ‘could face
extinction’. The report also outlines how staff at about 60%
of the state schools specifically mentioned the EBacc as
causing a negative effect on the provision and uptake of
music at their school, while only 3% believed it had
benefitted the subject.

‘Pari’ by Josh Bailey is intense. The high-octane energy and the dark, rough
bass is contrasted incredibly against the middle section. A thrilling air swirls
around oriental strings and a beautiful vocal cut. The track encompasses the
blend of fast-paced city living together with cultural influences.
Fast becoming a household name, Josh Bailey, the playfully dubbed party
starter of the highest order is back on OHM Music for go-round number three!
A relationship forged in 2017, Josh Bailey would turn the head of label boss
OMAIR and together they would unleash the majestic flair of 'The Kingmaker'.
Without even skipping a beat, the Bailey beats would come crashing back in a
short month later as his Maglev collaboration on 'Pathkeeper' would solidify a
bright future as an indispensable part of the OHM Music family. With piping
hot anticipation, the UK's own Josh Bailey rejoins his stateside tribe of
electronic tastemakers, inspiring our pulse to jump off the charts with 'Pari',
forthcoming September 14, 2018!
With a focus on delivering futuristic trance heavy hitters and mood setting
progressive EDM, we enter the Josh Bailey era of soundwave domination.
Representing his boundary-bending musical character, 'Pari' takes us on a
power-packed peak-hour crescendo of emotion that will leave even the most
seasoned of trance addicts in awe and begging for more. Straight out of the
gate, you can feel the thump of the bass as a festive chant titillates the
eardrums with spirited vitality. But, the true magic unveils itself on the
breakdown as 'Pari' nods to the visionary locked within Josh Bailey,
mischievously switching gears as it morphs into a main stage musical
mammoth born from raw passion and crafted for the nights that leave us
completely breathless!

‘When She Dances’ by DJ S.K.T ft Karen
Harding is HOT! A beautiful, subtle
string melody entices us along with
the soft, alluring voice. She gets lost
in all the lights. A cold, steady
percussion comes in. We enter the first
verse feeling a steely strength. This
then trickles into a deep, heated
passion. She’ll be dancing till it
closes. There is an incredible range,
power and emotion in the vocals. The
flavourful beats, the rising intensity
in the air, the rush of blood and hearts
beating faster… The pumping energy
of the drop gets you moving.

‘Fall Back’ by Marcelle is really interesting. There is a unique array of tones in
this piece with elegant and smooth RnB notions yet a somewhat spicy and
modern take on the production. The vocals are equally intriguing with the
husky and passionate chorus sections against snappy, lyrical flows.
Hot off its premiere via DJ Ace on 1Xtra, Marcelle Adrianna reveals the lead
single taken from her newly released 'Prologue' E.P.. Enriched with radiant
vocals and glorious melodies Marcelle Adrianna provides us with the key to
her mind as she unravels her thoughts and memories in her body of work ‘The
Prologue’ EP. A snapshot into her life she relays her story which is woven
together from conversations, voicenotes, voicemails, text messages and diary
entries.
Paying homage to old school R&B, her EP encapsulates the nostalgic essence
that radiate from everything composing the records, from instrumentals, lyrics
her powerful voice and the delivery. From the stripped back nature of ‘Realise’
to the tantalising melodic gem ‘Fallin’, the spellbinding EP explores the many
crevasses of RnB.
Inspired by the iconic sounds of Motown to more contemporary R&B, South
London native Marcelle has a radiant voice that is submerged with an eclectic
repertoire of inspirations. Growing up in a household filled with music and
singing in church as a child, music became second nature to Marcelle. Living
on a healthy diet of the iconic sounds of Motown and RnB, she spent her young
years soaking up the likes of Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding to the
modern day R&B sounds of Destiny's Child, Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill,
Keyshia Cole, Ashanti and Alicia Keys. Welcoming you into her world, Marcelle
Adrianna sprinkles sweet R&B, Pop and Soul to create a tantalising sound.

bright and affectionate. Being with you, everyday's a

yearning for his love to never end. The drop brings
vibrancy with passionate energy in the vocals on top of a
modern syncopated beat. Don't you ever leave me, don't
you ever go.

against the futuristic possibilities. She is transported
into a virtual world, her curiosity and desires taking
control. Together the couple dance, explore and enjoy life

’Nasty’ by Phonetix is just as the title promises. Fast-paced, severe
rudeness and a dirty bass! The clean-cut production is given character in
the little dips and cleverly-crafted structure. The main section holds a
huge power together with gnarly punches of verbal abuse. This is one
killer track you need in your dnb collection.
This is the debut single release from the forthcoming album by Rob
Thomas (aka Phonetix). Switching things up & coming with a different
vibe to his norm, Phonetix (pronounced “foh-net-ix”) shows his skillset
extends far beyond the boundaries of Garage & Bass for which he is
known - as he lays down a storming Drum & Bass number, featuring
vocals from Kiss 100's Majestic. Trust us when we warn you: drop this &
the dancefloor will erupt. Strictly to be played LOUD.

‘Velvet’ by Alexis Kings is ultra cool. The rhythmic beat, the simple yet
stunning guitar work, the captivating and free-spirited vocals. The main
section has a good feeling in the atmosphere together with the headstrong
character. Let’s make it electric baby. There is a wonderful rustic charm to this
song.
Indie rock 4-piece Alexis Kings are set to release their newest single Velvet on
3rd August. Injected with a soulful, funk edge, the track is a feel-good anthem
following on from the successful release of their debut EP ‘Squire’ back in
2016, leading to positive reviews from BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, and Radio
X’s John Kennedy. Comprising of Brendan Aherne (vocals), Sam Privett (lead
guitar), Kalyan Rogers (bass) and Fabio Bocca (drums), Alexis Kings offer a
fusion of old school funk and soul a top a solid rock n roll base in their newest
single Velvet. Following their distinctive melody driven guitar sound, Alexis
Kings have made themselves known on the London live circuit over the years,
selling out crowds at Barfly in Camden and recently broadening their live
shows to cities across Asia and Europe.
With a debut album on the horizon for later this year, Velvet sets the tone for
what to expect. Taking aspects of each members influence and fusing each
style to create a sound distinctive to Alexis Kings, the single flaunts poetic
lyricism inspired by the likes of Alex Turner and a confident lead guitar line
reflecting influence from Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Tom Misch. Produced by
Ian Dowling (Bombay Bicycle Club, Chapel Club), Velvet features a strong
foundation of funk flavoured bass and steady drumbeat, making it an anthemic
single to match previous releases and releases yet to come. Velvet is set to be
followed by an accompanying video with special feature from Old Men
Grooving of Britain’s Got Talent.

‘Roam’ by Lostly & Emma Gillespie is a showstopper.
I’m home in the shadows of your mind. Ranging from
feather-soft to sexy confidence, the vocals really make
this song come alive. The production is both moody yet
vibrant to send thrilling waves upon the dance floor.
A fat bassline & authentic 303 acid sequencer propel
this 124bpm groover with some Derrick May inspired
synth work creating a captivating atmosphere. Rare in
this music sphere - Emma Gillespie lays down a
gorgeous otherworldly double-tracked vocal. If the
music does all the talking for you, there is also a
sublime instrumental.

and afro-fusion influences it merges together to create a tantalisingly
infectious hybrid inundated with majestic hooks and melodies. Sipping on
fine-wine and swerving an old flame, Dominique De Beau lights the fire,

‘Let It Breathe’ by Villem & McLeod ft Leo Wood is magical. It’s only you I
dream of. The touches of radiant, sparkling elements as well as the light air is
counterbalanced by the steady, strong dnb beat. The voice has lovely ranges
from sugary sweet to exquisitely silky tones. I believe. The delights and
passion of love shine through vividly in the song, there is also a subtle depth in
the atmosphere which you simply lose yourself to.
Step forward the premiere neo-soul D&B production outfit Villem & McLeod as
they present ‘Let It Breathe’, the first single to be taken from their debut album
due summer’s end on Spearhead Records. Oozing soul with Leo Wood’s vocals
sparkling on top, this one serves as the perfect prelude for the LP to come.
“We’d been playing the instrumental of this in our sets and it was getting a
nice reaction. Its simplicity juxtaposed against other tunes seemed to be a
breath of fresh air. We’d heard Leo on one of Phaction’s EP’s, loved her vocal

‘Too Deep’ by Libby Whitehouse is upfront with a cool-headed
attitude. You’re trying too hard and that don’t impress me.
Don’t be fooled by her sweet tones, she knows what she wants
and there’s no messing about. The soft production is a lovely
accompaniment to the voice. The track is for the modern day
mind with a chilled perspective yet knowing your worth.
After the success of her last single Cut it Off, 18-year old
Brighton beauty Libby Whitehouse is back with another edgy
pop record. Too Deep is an R’n’B future classic, destined to
follow the footsteps of Libby’s past singles and smash the
Spotify charts. Libby says: "'Too Deep' was written
spontaneously, about a boy and a girl dating, and him not really
having any personality, so she’s not taking it too seriously. The
session was a really chilled day in the studio, it was never
expected that the song we wrote in the session would be
released, but my team and I knew it was a cool RnB vibe for us
to drop this summer"
Though only 17 at the time, Libby released three singles in
2017, ‘Hands on Me’, ‘Recipe’ and ‘What I Want’, gaining her the
attention of The Great Escape, I Luv Live, and the Spotify Viral
Charts. Too Deep will be followed by more fresh new music
before a much anticipated EP, due for release in November
2018.
Libby is a recent graduate from the prestigious BIMM college,
which boasts alumni such as James Bay, Izzy Bizu and Tom
Odell. Her achievements on spotify to date prove she is well on
her way to putting her name alongside these great artists. With
landing a spot in the Top 30 in the ‘Spotify UK Viral Chart’, to
Number 1 and 2 in the Brighton Spotify chart for sixty
consecutive days, as well as big playlist inclusions on the likes
of Spotify’s ‘This Is How We Do’ and ‘Chilled Pop Hits’.
Libby kicked off 2018 with a performance at I Luv Live at Zigfrid
Von Underbelly in London as well as a sold-out performance at
the Great Escape 2018 in May, with Libby’s debut headline show
is also planned for Autumn 2018.

‘Insomnia’ by DynamicMP is an interesting lullaby. The beautiful piano
melody leads us in and continues to take us throughout the track. The
gentle beat and warm tones of the chorus are contrasted against the
rough verses. Let’s just hold on. The internal battle, a determination to go
far, the challenges faced when chasing your goals.
DynamicMP has been building both his following and his musical arsenal
on the underground of the UK Rap scene for a number of years. Having
recently released his ‘Rise’ EP, the Hackney rapper delivers the lead
single ‘Insomnia’.
Piano melodies bubble along in the backline of the record in a dreamlike
haze while DynamicMP takes us on a journey of the relentless pursuit to
success. Cataloguing his thoughts and dreams, the rapper captures the
frustrations he faces, the dreams he aspires to turn in to realities and his
unwillingness to quit. Influenced by boom-bap hip-hop and filled with
honest lyrics and soulful melodies, DynamicMP is engaging and
refreshing in his delivery.
Having previously released a remix of Queen Latifah's classic ‘U.N.I.T.Y’
amidst the Black Lives Matter protests, DynamicMP earned himself a
MOBO Unsung nomination, being shortlisted to the final 20. His ’22’ EP
was released within the same year and through his lyrics he explored his
maturity and the struggles of balancing life and music. Remaining
authentic, unique and versatile, the ‘Rise' EP continues to document his
journey, drawing on his emotions and experiences in a concise and
eloquent manner.

‘Light Up’ by Hybrid is full of strength. You can’t let them silence your song.
The production is varied nicely with hints of darkness, a lively dnb beat and a
brilliant, powerful and uplifting energy. The voice has a beautiful soft depth
as well as huge confidence and passion throughout the main section. There is a
really cool breakdown at the middle section. You light up the stars and the
sun. The Loadstar remix plays on the darker tones and drops down into a fierce
bass section, this also allows the voice to be slightly more predominant and
striking. The Matt Lange remix is very pretty, adding strings and lovely
textural elements to the lead up, then there is a sinful and gnarly drop creating
an interesting balance of moods.

‘Run To’ by Sophia Mina is a fresh goodbye song. The
sweet and sultry voice is the focal point. After a
period of difficulties, a mind of strength and a sense
of self-worth are imparted through the song. The
summer house track brings a light tone to the theme
together with a bouncy drop to enforce the strength.
Sophia Mina, the sassy London Cypriot with an edgy
R&B vibe and passion for pop released the new video
for her latest single Run To.
“I wrote the song for another singer, but the whole
time I was writing it, I thought - this song is just ME!
So had to keep it!" Sophia Mina
As a 90's kid, Sophia loved singing along to Britney
Spears, Christina Aguilera, JoJo and Aaliyah. Still a
lover of unapologetic pop, her influences can be
heard in her catchy choruses, vibrant styling and
energetic videos.
Run To is released after the success of Sophia’s EP
Fly, which, along with her EP launch party in Tape in
London, received excellent reviews earlier this year.
Sophia was talent spotted and developed by Amy’s
Yard and the Capital Xtra Music Potential Program.
This helped her first two singles Where's Love and
Turn It Up, released via the London based label Deep
Stack Records to reach #10 in the Music Week Charts.

too. A track you can play and enjoy, whatever the situation.

The Binary Vol. 17 release presents four incredible tracks by Stoner.
‘1984’ is intricate and cleverly-produced to excite your senses. It
comprises of twinkly notes, a warped intensity, brilliant bursts of brass,
a bubbly beat, a gritty hum of bass, a deep and whimsical atmosphere
and oriental strings. All of those elements are somehow worked together
harmoniously to create a wonder. ‘Sweet Home’ features warm interludes
of loving vocals with charming instrumentation of piano and strings.
This then takes a shift down into the tough and gritty bass section.
‘Thera’ allows the darker side to take centre stage with sharp synths and
gnarly, fierce bass. The final piece to the puzzle is ‘Phenomenon’ ft Dottor
Poison. This is a raw, eery, wild undertone together with a dirty bass. We
have a surprise of an intriguingly light voice and playful melody. There is
a fantastic battle of light and dark / good and bad in this track.
One of Italy’s latest D&B exports Stoner has been making many waves of
late with a string of releases on The Dreamers, Nëu, Skank & Bass and
Sinuous Records. Now Kasra picks up four tracks that capture an array of
moods from the dark unhinged to double bass funk and even a little
synth wave. One to watch.

‘Free’ by Kobe JT is a fun ukg trio. The title track has a wonderful old
school style with the bumpy 2-Step beat, light tones, playful structure
and a sweet choppy vocal. Simplistic delight. The second track ‘Ninety
Five’ maintains a bumpy beat and introduces a smooth and soulful
atmosphere, the sprinkles of brass notes are just enough to add a smile to
your face. The trio is completed with the Limita remix of ‘Free’ which
throws in a great, full bass and livens up the piece.
Downplay is proud to present the debut EP from Guildford producer
Kobe JT.
‘Free’ is full of flavour - with a spicy 2-step groove underpinning jazzy
keys and a soulful diva vocal. Chopped instrumentation and a bubbling
bassline add the essential seasoning for a properly tasty UKG bubbler.
‘Ninety Five’ takes it’s title seriously, with a studious throwback to the
golden age of emerging US & UK Garage. Rolling 4x4 provides the
framework for descending chords and sparkling horns, stretched across a
bumpy 2-step rhythm.
Finally label mate Limita steps up to twist the lead track into a hightempo
bassline assault with just the right amount of funk to fill any
discerning dancefloor.
