in Singapore and only review places
and activities that I like and want to
recommend to others. I enjoy seeing my
reviews read, knowing it may have helped
others enjoy what I have experienced.
My kids – I have a 13-year-old boy and a
16-year-old girl – would say “that’s lame,
dad”, when I am taking photos of my food.
I really enjoy local food and I always try to
find local food when I travel. I would look
for say the best nasi padang in Jakarta, or
the best roti chenai in Kuala Lumpur. It
does not have to be fancy – when I was in
Hong Kong, I found a small porridge place
in a hole-in-the-wall. It was really good for
HKD37 (S$6.50).
I love planning for holidays. I am part of a
group of four families who travel together
every year and they generally leave the
planning to me. I like meeting the needs
of different people – I will ask them
what they want to do and I will research
experiences that are a little bit different,
aside from the usual touristy spots.
Last year, we went to Spain for three
weeks, which was wonderful. Watching
the sunrise on the hilltop town of Ronda
in Andalusia and enjoying fresh mussels
along the Costa Brava were the highlights.
Fun facts:
What do you do when you need a short
break from work?
I would go for my coffee fix at Maison
Kayser. I usually get a skinny cappuccino
because I am trying to cut sugar from my
diet.
Where do you go for lunch?
I have not really explored the area and I
seem to always head to the same places
for business lunches. For Japanese
cuisine, I usually go to Tamashii Robataya
Restaurant at North Canal Road and
Kiraku at Market Street. Pasta Fresca
Da Salvatore at Boat Quay is my go-to
pasta place. I have not eaten there in 15
years since I last worked in this area. It is
amazing that it is still around. When I do
not have a business lunch, I would buy the
economy rice at the coffee shop at Philip
Street and just bring it back to eat in the
office.
What’s in your bag?
I am probably one of the rare guys who
bring a bag because I do not like to keep
things in my pants pocket. It is a small
brown pouch from Braun Buffel where I
keep my wallet, keys and cards.
