The makeover was made possible through a grant from BB&T. With a budget of almost $3,000, 20 employees from the Orlando BB&T branch were able to freshly paint the room and purchase new equipment and sensory toys for the needs of the students. The BB&T Lighthouse Project is an annual companywide community-service effort that brings together thousands of associates to serve as a beacon for their neighbors. n Westbrooke Elementary Westbrooke Elementary welcomed a new principal through its doors for the 2018-19 school year, Alex Reyes. The school held a Meet the Principal event at Peachwave Frozen Yogurt, so parents and students could get to know Principal Reyes before classes started. He also sent this message: “It is with great enthusiasm that I am starting this new school year at Westbrooke Elementary School. I feel honored to have the opportunity to lead a school in such a family-engaged community. I have been in education for 19 years, starting in high school all the way down to elementary school. In addition, I worked at the district office, providing opportunities for schools on building the pipeline to college and career readiness through rigorous instruction.
