20 Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Wednesday September 5 2018 SELWYN TIMES Salvation Army to benefit from can collection SCHOOLS Clearview Primary School pupils participated in the national can ‘collection, creation, education and donation’ campaign run by The Salvation Army in partnership with Wattie’s for New Zealand schools. The cans will help restock food bank shelves during this critical time of the year. The pupils are hoping to win the $500 prize worth of sports equipment through their can construction efforts and their design a can label or colouring in competition. ​ MUSIC: The Lincoln Primary School concert band performing at the New Zealand Concert Band Association Festival on August 18. The band was awarded gold for its outstanding performance for a young band in the grade 2 and under category at the festival. The band was also given the spirit of the festival award for its professional posture, performance and stage etiquette and for paying close attention to their conductor. Only one band at the festival is given this award. In the solo sections of the NZCBA Festival, Lincoln Primary School pupils were awarded the following marks – gold awards for Peter on trumpet and Francisco on glockenspiel and a silver award for Andrea on flute. The school’s concert band, along with its jazz band, also performed at the Wellington Band and Orchestra Festival. The concert band then had the opportunity to participate in a workshop with the New Zealand composer and conductor Ken Young. ​ ACTIVE: For two weeks, one lesson a day, Clearview Primary School year 2 to 6 pupils participated in Dances for School, an in-school dance program. During the lessons the pupils learned how to manage themselves and fully participate as an individual and with a dance partner to learn a number of new dances, a little bit at a time.
