Cartridges
This month, The Recycler spoke to Vishesh
Nangia, Managing Director of India’s Power
Point Cartridges, to find out more about the
company, its origins, and the future forecast for
the circular economy on the subcontinent.
1. What does your
company do?
We are India’s leading compatible
and eco-friendly recycled cartridge
manufacturing company, with the
objective of delivering Office Printing
Solutions at an efficient expense,
without cutting back on the quality.
We at Power Point help the practice
of environmental safety by
implementing it in the Indian print
industry, and we attempt to reduce the
amount of printer consumable waste,
and fortify our dedication to nature.
Each empty cartridge that is reused
diminishes the amount of plastic
going into landfills. Cartridge reuse
lessens the amount of natural
resources needed to produce new
cartridges. By recycling the printer
cartridges, we cut down the waste
entering the environment.
2. How big is your company
(in terms of premises,
employees, operations)?
We are headquartered in Mumbai,
and have a presence across India, with
6 metropolitan branches. Our
team strength is over 250 employees,
and we offer a wide range of solutions,
from printer cartridges to print
management services.
3. How did your company start –
what were your origins?
Power Point takes pride in its
extraordinary growth story, which
started from Mumbai in 2010 and
thrived leap and bounds to reach out
to every nook and corner of the
subcontinent. Within the last year, the
company has opened four branches, at
Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow and
Chennai.
4. What challenges are there for
companies like yours in the
Indian market?
The new epoch of managed print
solutions is definitely changing
customer ambitions, creating new
priorities and a different set of
challenges. As a consequence,
organisations are seeking more
flexibility in their MPS contracts, as
well as a lesser turnaround time, a
better roadmap for innovation, and a
clearer strategy for information
management.
5. How do you think the China
waste import ban will impact
the recycling industry in
India?
China represents the largest trade
partner for USA recyclables, and is one
of the world’s foremost importers of
recyclable material. If all material is
banned, it will be a challenge to
replace that demand for our
recyclables. Demand is growing in
India & Southeast Asia, but not at the
rate needed to replace what is sent to
China. The USA, Europe, etc. currently
do not have the capacity to recycle
everything they produce.
6. How much has the recycling
ethos struck a chord with the
local population? Is it
becoming a social issue?
The Indians’ love for smart and latest
gadgets are an open story. On the
other hand, our reluctance towards
using second hand or refurbished
products has also been an open tale.
However, in recent times, the
refurbishment market has picked up,
with the refurbished IT sector
leading the chart. Irrespective of the
industry, the refurbished products are
quality tested on several parameters
just to ensure it does not lag behind
their new-build brothers. On top of
this, these companies provide
layers of safety features apart from
the warranty and extended warranty
on every item, hence providing an
added layer of comfort to the
customers.
7. Have the circular economy
initiatives been supported by
the Indian government?
The importance of recycling is well
communicated to the general public,
but the initiatives available are still
only very few. Being ecological is on
the minds of the Government, but it is
too early to confirm the complete
transformation. However, the
resourcefulness is on the rise, so
hopefully the circular economy
concept will get a boost soon.
8. What new opportunities have
been opened to you because
of your green credentials?
The concepts of cost savings in the
print industry are here to stay,
although paper will likely never leave
the corporate world entirely. But
still it’s more than a fact that if not
given gravity, the corporate print
environment is often a high or
increasing cost centre, that can be
much more expensive than most
businesses envision. To have a firm
grip on printing costs, it is imperative
for businesses to have a firmer grip on
their printing infrastructure,
especially those in pursuit of ways to
reduce operating costs.
9. How do you plan on
expanding further in the
future?
PowerPoint travels in harmony, with
these insightful words from Richard
Branson: “If you take care of your
employees, they will take care of the
clients” – thus, we are providing equal
opportunities for the employees to
grow in a highly interactive
workplace, where they can scribble
their thoughts. We believe in having
better employee morale, and every
thought is counted and approached
with respect. Our team has innovation
in its DNA, and they are all set to
launch the access-card-based highly
secured pull-printing feature in our
solutions. We are consistently striving
to reach the last mile of our
customers, with the help of our
franchisee network. PowerPoint has
no intention to take the foot off its
growth accelerator anytime in the
near future.
