TecAlliance – providing solutions
TecAlliance might be
primarily known by
many in the trade for
its TecDoc electronic
parts catalogue and
identification system, but the
company has multiple products
and offers the industry
numerous services in order
to provide a myriad of business
solutions at every level
of the marketplace.
Although not a UK business,
an interesting recent
project, which underlines
TecAlliance’s ability to adapt
its systems to provide bespoke
solutions for specific
businesses opportunities,
comes with German online
used tyre retailer Orbix.
“During his time as head
of sales for BMW, the owner
of Orbix encountered a problem
that needed to be solved,
which was a surplus of used
tyres,” explains Shaun Greasley,
commercial director for
TecAlliance UK and Ireland.
“He found that every dealership
he visited was storing
uncounted and unregistered
tyres that were simply waiting
to reach their expiration
dates. Although some were
given away to customers
purchasing new cars or sold
at a discount at the end of
the year, the majority were
thrown away.
“It is important to mention
from the outset, these were
not the salvaged, part-worn
tyres that are the subject of
such fierce debate here in the
UK, but tyres and wheelsets
that were often driven only
a few miles and still of high
quality. Many came from
demo vehicles, leasing returns,
trade-ins or company
fleets and were in first-class
condition.
“His idea was to build an
online platform, featuring an
intuitive search function, for
private customers and dealers
to purchase the 29.4 million
used tyres and complete
wheelsets that were stockpiled
in Germany’s dealerships,
tyre sellers, leasing
companies and car rental
agencies!”
Simple as the idea may
sound, putting it into action
was anything but, because
in addition to programming
and collecting contact de-
across the aftermarket
a user-friendly search function.
way to the technician in the
Ultimately, the buyer workshop.
needs to know which wheelset
TecAlliance delivers the
matches their car. With essential information from
the complexities in mind, its repair and maintenance
Orbix turned to TecAlliance information: vehicle description
to provide the solution in the
data, links to vehicle type
knowledge that it would possess
numbers and details such as
the coverage and level of hub diameters, bolt holes
detail necessary for both vehicle
and profiles.
and parts data.
“Only with access to the
TecAlliance is a global market
necessary TecAlliance digital
leader in the field of auto-
data could the Orbix vision
motive data management and become a reality,” continued
has more than 20 years experience
Greasley. “By linking our
specialising in col-
search function to our data,
lecting current vehicle data, we can ensure that its customers
product data and repair and
order the right tyres
maintenance information for the first time, which avoids
all manufacturers, which it potential returns resulting
presents in a standard, globally
from customers not seeing
recognised format. The the right products.”
Challenge complete!
The Garage Magazines very own Stuart Woolley and 5 of his close friends recently took
part and completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Cancer Research.
The challenge consists of climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales,
where teams have completed this task within 24hrs, but our lads did it in a more sedate 3
days.
Stuart commented “We have all lost or had the unfortunate experience of this dreadful
disease and so we all felt that by doing this, we can offer our support to those many people
affected”
The lads raised over £1,200 for this great cause and are now deciding on their next
adventure.
