This term, the school has had Dianne Hiini and Grace Brooker from the Canterbury women’s rugby team come on a Thursday to take training sessions during lunch. The sessions have consisted of learning to catch, pass, games, quick tips and some basic tackle techniques. ​ WINNERS: Ellesmere College year 7 pupil Honor Barnett and year 8 pupil Robert Stoliker won in their respective year levels at the Selwyn Lions Club Ellesmere Primary School speech competition last Tuesday. Yaldhurst Model School pupil Judi Immanuel was second in the year 7 competition and third was Te Wharekauri McGregor from Templeton School. Halswell School pupil Ameya Raut was second in the year 8 competition and Elli Thompson from West Melton School was third. About 30 pupils from around the district took part in the competition which was held at Lincoln Primary School. ​ MAKING A DIFFERENCE: West Melton School year 2 and 3 pupils Paige, Katie, Sophie, Katie, Harriet and Evie with posters they made about the effect of litter on the environment. The posters, which are being displayed around the school and community, aim to help educate about the importance of not littering. Other pupils created iMovie videos to encourage pupils to not drop litter, to pick up litter and to have a litter free lunch box. SELWYN TIMES Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Wednesday September 12 2018 21 NATURE: Rolleston Christian School year 3, 4 and 5 pupils planted 250 native trees at Foster Park on Thursday. The pupils were participating in the second stage of the Foster Park planting development which is taking place down the Faringdon end of the park. Two years ago, the school was involved with planting stage one. Foster Park is located at the south end of the school. ​
