Wednesday September 12 2018 Latest Christchurch news at BAY HARBOUR PAGE 15 News Ideas for failed Maori Village land sought • By Matt Salmons HEATHCOTE residents are about to have their say on what the failed Māori Village land at Ferrymead Park can be used for. City council staff will seek views from the community this month on what to do with the land, which was mooted last year as an alternative site for a Lyttelton dog park. Options proposed for the former Māori Village tourist attraction at Ferrymead Park included a dog park, bike tracks and horse trails. It had been suggested as the possible location for a dog park last year after a suitable site in Lyttelton couldn’t be found. City council manager community parks Al Hardy said the Linwood- Central-Heathcote Community Board had asked staff to investigate uses for the land in December last year. “Staff are currently conducting a site analysis and will be seeking ideas and OPTIONS: A site once pegged to be a Māori Village tourist attraction could be a dog park or a bike track next year. community views shortly, prior to carrying out formal consultation for the site,” Mr Hardy said. He said staff would gather ideas from the community through preengagement at the end of the month. “Pre-engagement involves a project flyer being sent to adjacent neighbours, absentee owners and key stakeholders. This will increase awareness of the project and inform people where they can seek more information or make a submission.” Mr Hardy said information would be available on the Have Your Say website. A draft landscape plan would be prepared around November, Mr Hardy said, with further public consultation on the plan early next year. He expected the plan could go back to the community board for approval mid-2019.
