If you could go back to school and study one
thing, without limitations, what would it be?
I would study ART, I took a foundation
course in Art & Design when I left school
and it was the best year of studying ever, I
didn’t want it to end!
If you could plan the perfect field trip, where
would you take the class & why?
I would love to take the class to a beach
to study rock pools, they are so fascinating
- mini worlds that exist between the
tides.
What outfit will you be living in all autumn
long?
I have a velvet tassel jacket that I love;
jeans, boots and a Fedora.
What is your favourite autumn food or
flavour?
Blackberries, we pick them in late summer
and freeze them, then enjoy making jam
or blackberry and apple pie throughout
Autumn.
What is your favourite fall activity?
I love walking in the woods and they are
so beautiful in the Autumn with all the colours
and falling leaves, My least favourite
activity is cleaning all the mud from our
shoes!
If you could go back to school and study one
thing, without limitations, what would it be?
I’ve always wanted to be a helicopter pilot.
There is a sense of freedom from being
airborne and seeing the world from
a birds eye view. When I was 24 years of
age, I looked into programs that offered
flying lessons. They quoted me $5,000
for each lesson module with a total of 10
modules that needed to be completed
before getting your pilots license. The
$50,000 price tag alone scared me from
pursuing it any further.
Looking back know with 20/20 hindsight,
the cost of starting a professional
photography business isn’t far off from
that original quote! I guess it’s all about
perspective.
If you could plan the perfect field trip, where
would you take the class & why?
Anything that involved creative arts.
When young minds are encouraged to
develop their creativity it builds personal
growth, like confidence, creative thinking,
imagination, and open-mindedness.
What outfit will you be living in all autumn
long?
A great pair of skinny jeans, Frye boots,
and a comfy knit sweater (it’s all about
layers and texture).
What is your favourite autumn food or
flavour? Any roasted vegetable potage.
Butternut squash and coconut milk is
one of my favs.
If you could go back to school and study one
thing, without limitations, what would it be?
That’s a difficult one :) I loved studying
so much that I ended up with three
different degrees :D I wouldn’t change
it, though. I think that studying English
literature, sociology and pedagogy gave
me really good basis. I don’t regret it
even if my work now is not strictly related
to it. However, there’s one thing that I
would still like to study if I could go back
to school, that’s psychology. The human
mind fascinates me. The older I get, the
more I realise how powerful the human
mind is and how much we can achieve if
we can better understand the different
functions of it. That would be totally
amazing to be able to study psychology!
If you could plan the perfect field trip, where
would you take the class & why?
A perfect field trip…. I’d love to take the
class to Gdansk , one of the most beautiful
cities in Poland. I’ve been living here
for the past 6 years and the city doesn’t
stop to amaze me. Staying in a floating
apartment, exploring the city on kayak,
wandering around picturesque, cobbled
streets, trying the best sesame ice-cream
in town and then chilling on the local
beach. I’m sure everyone would love it :)
What outfit will you be living in all autumn
long? I love the changing of the seasons.
Especially the crispness in the air when
fall comes. I’m so ready for cosy knits.
I think my favourite trend this fall will
be wearing an oversize jacket over my
summer dress.
What is your favourite autumn food or
flavour? I have this great pumpkin soup
recipe wit some ginger and freshly
squeezed orange juice. It tastes great
with toasted pumpkin and sunflower
seeds. Yum !!!!
editor’s note
Is there any season more fun in the fashion world than autumn?
I live for the runways, the inspired street style and
the long-awaited closet change over from sandals, shorts
and playful rompers to cozy sweaters, comfy denim, and
my favourite sneakers. And, after the kind of summer heat
we’ve had, I sure am ready for it!
My fall closet swap is a highlight of the autumn season.
Pumpkin spiced latte in hand, I pull out my boxes of the
favourite fall pieces I’ve collected over the years, and I try
on and purge items that no longer fit or aren’t on trend.
I tidy my closet and organize my drawers; the process is
cathartic.
As satisfying as closet swap is for myself, the moment I
start to pack away my daughter’s clothes the panic sets in.
She is left with empty drawers, a sparse closet, and an anxious
momma! I’m certain all you parents with quickly growing
children can relate. Purchasing a whole new seasonal
wardrobe for your kids isn’t easy, on you or your wallet.
designer Q&A
Meet Peacheyboo
Get to know the proudly British brand Peacheyboo;
a line based on family and created by mother-daugther
duo: artist Lesley Goudman-Peachey and graphic
designer Hannah Peachey-Thacker.
14
Located in Brighton, England, Peacheyboo is a
colourful kids’ brand founded by mother-daughter
duo Lesley Goudman-Peachey and Hannah
Peachey-Thacker. Together, the pair craft artistic,
gender-neutral patterns and designs for your modern
children. The sustainable label is committed to
individuality, adventure and imagination and their
latest collection for AW18 shows off unique art-led
designs!
We were excited when the mother-daughter team
agreed to an interview, and equally thrilled to share
their brand story with you.
What made you want to design for children?
We are a big, very close family and it was definitely
because of this that we developed these interests.
For me, it was my nieces and for my mum, her grandchildren.
Going into kidswear felt natural because
we started to have a personal interest in looking at
the market and considering the clothes. We were
disappointed by the lack of choice and too often
poor-quality pieces. Seeing our designs turned into
beautiful, quirky clothing for our own family to wear
is the best thing. We love watching how it encourages
them to be fun and creative. That’s the point of
our clothes - they’re durable and practical because
they’re meant for adventure, discovery and exploring
nature- just being a kid, really. It’s surprising how
often you see a brand miss that.
What is your brand’s mission statement or goal?
What we really hope is that the brand will be an
example of how contemporary fashion can show
its commitment to nature, artistic endeavour and
to the environment. Sustainability is both a practice
and a goal for us. We hope that introducing
eco-consciousness to young minds will help raise
a generation of environmentally aware consumers.
The brand is for parents who want their children to
be creative, individual, inquisitive and as adventurous
as they like and in the most natural and liberat-

Designer Q&A
ing ways possible. We believe that if you’re seeking to
inspire children, there is, perhaps, no better way to do
so than with what they interact with every day: clothes
that are practical, well-designed and consciously made.
What are the motivations or inspirations behind the
designs?
We are both artists, so I hope we aren’t about to give
terribly cliché answers. We take a lot of inspiration from
colour, shapes and form. We really can find inspiration
anywhere but, I think nature is probably a favourite
source because it’s so replenishable. I photograph the
most random things for inspiration. We love found objects,
ephemera and vintage imagery and collect lots
of old things.
Is there a style decade you are inspired by?
We are very nostalgic people, completely obsessed
with timeworn objects. I think this is why we collect so
many random objects - they’re beautiful and inspiring
even out of their original contexts. We call it our ‘magpie
culture’. So, I think I would say that we aren’t really
inspired by any one decade. It’s so interesting to see
how different styles and design principles mix and play
with each other.
What makes your label stand out in the industry?
It’s so personal and deeply thought through. We set out
with a mission based around what we want to pass on
to the kids in our family. Then we grew that into a philosophy
of how we want to inspire future generations.
We prioritize sustainable practice over profit-making
as well as art and creativity over trends. I think this has
built a brand culture that’s about principles rather than
money. We produce our clothes in the UK because we
are so keen to show off local manufacturing industry,
we endeavour endlessly to source materials with the
least environmental impact, we have continuous collections
because we know that seasons do not always
reflect how people actually buy clothes and seasonal or
fast fashion cycles are incredibly waste-generating. Our
styles are timeless, and you’ll find them there to buy
whether it’s Autumn/Winter or Spring/Summer.
How does your design philosophy change when creating
for boys vs girls? Not very much! Our designs
are unisex, and we have gender-neutrality as a central
principle. You won’t see a division in prints for boys and
prints for girls. Every print we put on a pair of sweatpants
we will also put on a skirt or a dress. Children are
still discovering themselves in a very impressionable
way, and we don’t believe that they should have their
interests prescribed to them. The messages the kidswear
and toy industries send through their branding
and design can be damaging, limiting and confusing.
Our clothes are intended to be entirely liberating in this
sense. We do, however, take the time to consider how
sometimes we could make a shirt dress more appealing
to boys or highlight that a pink item is not gendered in
one of our campaigns. It is more of an effort for us to
show that some of our ‘soft colours’ are actually made
for boys to wear as well as girls. But people are coming
round to it, and we love when we get feedback that it’s
actually refreshing for parents who are wading through
a sea of blue and green dinosaurs.
What do you have coming up that you are really
excited about? We have an exciting rebrand coming
up in January. We can finally start talking about it, but
I can’t give details. All I can say is that it is going to be
BIG. We are doing the work to solidify our principles
and highlight the aspects we are most proud of: our
sustainability, gender-neutrality and our personal visions
as artists. We just hope people respond to it.
What are your favourite items from the current
collection? The entire AW18 collection is definitely our
favourite to date. We wanted to play with autumnal
hues to bring colour and warmth to winter clothes that
are too often dark and dreary.
I think the Sherpa
bomber jacket or the
Sherpa sweaters
are the best. You
feel warmer just
collection that has us thinking beyond.
Since the beginning of time, humankind has been borrowing
from nature’s resources to create tools and using
them to build civilizations. Today, we’re at the epitome
of scientific developments, with new inventions coming
to life everyday and the brightest minds on the planet
working together toward a better future.
Barn of Monkeys encourages us to Think Beyond, in
their Autumn/Winter collection, inspired by out-ofthe-box
thinkers; famous scientists and their greatest
innovations. The futuristic, yet very playful collection is
a perfect combination of smart and stylish, featuring
a mixed palette of cosmic blues, greens, purples and
reds with soft water tones and yellows.
The collection reminds us that there are no boundaries
to your imagination! The formula behind this experimental
collection includes a touch of texture, a mix of
both soft and bold colours, and a pinch of comfortable,
loose-fitting designs that, together, lead the future of
children’s fashion!
and Spotlight
Raised in a boisterous Parisian
family Anaïs and Clémence
are the co-founders, sisters
and inseparable duo behind
the brilliant childrenswear brand Petite
Lucette. When Anaïs moved to the
United States, she soon discovered that
she could not find the type of clothing
she wanted to dress her children:
elegant and comfortable styles with
exceptional attention to detail.
Petite Lucette
OUR FAVOURITE AUTUMN COLLECTION HAS ARRIVED
In 2013, the sisters launched their
brand, and it found instant success.
Each season, Petite Lucette delivers
a charming wardrobe ranging in sizes
to suit babies through teenagers. The
brand keeps children’s comfort in mind
and showcases fresh, chic and whimsical
styles, designed for practicality with
effortless comfort and mix-andmatch
sensibility. Sustainability, social
responsibility and care for the planet
are important values to Anaïs and
Clémence, which
are incorporated
into the brand’s
fabric choices. All
fabrics are Oeko-
and spotlight
The materials used in each design are carefully
selected for their quality, softness and resilience,
making heirloom-quality fashions that parents feel
confident will hold up to everyday wear.
We are simply enamoured with the Petite
Lucette’s new Fall-Winter 2018 collection, which
takes inspiration from the subtle modesty of light
used by Flemish painters. The understated colour
palette comes to life in velvety textures; soft and
comfortable corduroy, flannel and cotton are
adorned with ruffles and lace. Sporting a hint of
retro style, we see children bundled up in cozy
knits – a contemporary winter look with yesterday’s
spirit.
The new collection by Petite Lucette has just
launched, and you can check out favourite pieces
(like the gorgeous soft cotton cord Claire Overall
or the stunning cotton flannel Amicie Dress - a
long sleeve dress with gold piping detail) on their
Adapt&survive
phil&teds’ line up of travel-ready products is exactly what
you need for your next family trip. We tested out four of
their best-selling products and share our honest reviews!
Extremely lightweight
at 11lbs, go is one of the
lightest, most compact,
full seat strollers out
there.
We love: go is available in a
choice of three fun and fresh
seat liners - each reversible to
black giving you options
to mix it up your way!
The go’s parcel basket
holds up to 11lbs and is
easy to access from the
front!
We love: go effortlessly folds
down compactly at only 21 x
17 x 7”, for a fuss-free fit into
the smallest of storage
spaces, or car trucks.
Lifestyle
Any parent who has planned a trip with their young
children knows how stressful it can be to purchase
and pack everything you’ll need for your child to
eat, sleep and stroll in comfort during your travels.
phil&teds made packing for our recent family trip
the easiest its ever been with their range of travelready
products designed to help parents, just like
us, adapt&survive! We put phil&teds range of bestselling,
award-winning products to the test in New
York this summer and were pleasantly surprised!
The phil&teds go stroller is effortless,
fuss free and one of the smallest
compact strollers on the market.
_____________________
It is perfect for navigating the airport or taking a daytrip.
With a price tag under $200 this stroller - ideal
for ages 6 months to 4 years - is incredibly easy to
manoeuvre from TSA screening through the terminal.
Out and about on the town, the go stroller does
best on even sidewalks and parents can opt for more
control over surfaces by locking the front wheels
straight. This stroller features a comfortable full size,
semi-recline seat, which is great for napping babies or
toddlers who like to lean back and relax. The parcel
tray did the trick with just enough room for a small
backpack of essentials, our snacks and a few toys.
Finally, the go stroller’s one-handed fold is a game
changer!
The light-weight and portable lobster high chair is by
far my favourite product by phil&teds. This perfect
travel high chair clamps to virtually any table making it
ideal for family outings to coffee shops or restaurants.
The lobster packs flat into a handy carrying back and
can be used with or without the accompanying food
try. The chair is durable and strong, yet weights under
4 lbs and is suitable for children aged 6 months - 3
years or up to 37 lbs.
Even when a highchair is available, we
reach for the lobster chair instead!
Finding a safe and
comfortable sleep
solution for infants
and toddlers when
travelling is one of
the biggest concerns
parents often have.
With the phil&teds
traveller parents can
rest assured! This
versatile play yard
and travel crib, with
an available bassinet
accessory, is everything
you need. The traveller is the super light weight and
compact travel crib that is lighter than the baby,
weighing only 6 lbs! The traveller is built for optimal
lightness and strength, it is a breeze to assemble and
can be used indoors or outside!
Parents with small infants
will love the bassinet
accessory that brings
baby closer to you. Just
like the traveller crib,
the traveller bassinet is
lightweight, portable
and perfect for trips,
near or far! We set
up the traveller in
our Brooklyn rental
apartment and our
daughter slept so
well!
Finally, there is no better packing solution for all your
gear than new phil&teds travel bag! The universal
sized, expandable bag fits all phil&teds strollers and
many more, plus it folds down compactly and easily
when not in use. We fit our go stroller, traveller crib
and lobster chair in this bag with room to spare and
could easily roll it through the airport; it even has a
convenient gate check label!
If you are planning your next family adventure, be
sure to check out philandteds.com for these and
more amazing products that will help your family
Joshua Rush
You may know Joshua Rush from his leading role as Cyrus
Goodman, Disney’s first openly gay character, on the
popular TV series Andi Mack; but, what you may not know is
that Joshua has his sights set far beyond Hollywood!
Photography & Article by Melanee Kate Thomas
30
Brimming with personality and exuding
confidence, it’s no surprise Disney took
an interest in actor Joshua Rush. The
entertainment giant then proceeded with
casting Rush for the hit show Andi Mack.
His quick wit, impeccable comedic timing,
and sincerity translates across the screen in
a way that has endeared him to America.
Living and working out of LA for the past
decade, Rush has obtained a wealth of
experience and built an impressive resume.
His professionalism and drive exceed that
of any other sixteen-year-old I have ever
encountered.
While he distinguished himself in
Hollywood, Rush’s talents do not stop at the
edge of Tinseltown. He has his sights set
on the world of news, and I can only hope
the news broadcasting industry is prepared
for the whirlwind coming their way. When
asked when his fascination first began, he
responded, “During the 2012 elections I
watched the election coverage til two in the
morning, and I completely fell in love with
it.”
Rush is an incredibly bright kid who not only
engages in politics but has a passion for
helping educate others as well. “News in
a Rush,” started in 2017, is his news-based
social media project. He produces simple
60-second videos that break down the
headlines making complex subjects
accessible to young audiences. Rush pulls
his information from credible expert sources
around the world including reporters and
state and federal government appointees
and elected officials.
It’s exciting to see one of Hollywood’s young
elites engaging in such a well-informed
manner and encouraging youth to do
the same. As he does, he pushes positive
messages such as kindness, inclusivity, and
understanding.
So what’s next for the multi-talented teen?
While Rush is still enjoying his time with
Disney, he is also taking his studies seriously
while looking towards a future in journalism.
During a hiatus a few weeks ago, he took
the nation’s capital by storm, meeting face
to face with government and state officials,
Pentagon generals, as well as getting
hands-on experience at major news outlets.
Washington, D.C. will likely see a great deal
more of him in the future.
With his extraordinary drive and genuine
passion for people, Joshua Rush is most
definitely a young person to watch.
Follow Joshua on Instagram and get your
news in a rush @NewsInARush or keep up
to date on Joshua’s day-to-day adventures
